3 frames of reference (probably way too esoteric, I know, but I'm goin' for it!):
- I ♥️ Huckabees (Russel, 2004)
- How I got here: 'Absurdist Existentialist' (à la The Myth of Sisyphus [Camus, 1942]) -> 'Nietzchean Nihilist' (esp. On the Genealogy of Morality [Nietzsche, 1887]) -> 'Madhyamaka and/or Secular Buddist' (à la Mūlamadhyamakakārikā [Nāgārjuna, ca. 150 BCE], After Buddhism [Batchelor, 2015]).
- I don't consider myself a 'Buddhist' without qualification: I don't believe in reincarnation (at least as anything other than matter), and I can't consistently keep all 5 of the damn precepts (I eat meat on occasion, and I'm a brewer by trade).
1) I find 'emptiness' a more coherent perspective than 'nothingness,' because I think there's a surplus and effulgence of 'meaning' in the world, not a complete absence of it. I think the classical Greek concept of Kháos is really profound in this regard.
2) I ♥️ Huckabees is genius in so many ways, but it kind of lays out a spectrum between French Post-structuralism and Nihilism on the one hand (the character of Caterine Vauban), and an 'everything-is-connected-existentialism,' on the other (the Existentialist detectives). The Buddhist concepts of Śūnyatā and Tathātā can bridge both sides of this spectrum depending on who's using them (c.f. The Diamond Sutra, [Mu Seong, 2000], or The Art of Living [Hạnh, 2017]), but I'm curious if anyone's familiar with non-Buddhist, analytical or philosophical approaches to the kind of 'everything is connected-existentialism' of the Detectives.

Oi pessoal! Ando com umas ideias ousadas de fazer mestrado. Me formei em letras/linguística em 2021 sem nunca ter feito IC, apesar de ter considerado e saber mais ou menos bem o que gostaria de estudar. No final da graduação, tava bem decidida que não queria ficar na minha área de formação e nem tinha vontade de fazer um mestrado nem nada, já que trabalhava com outra coisa, apesar de amar muito. Hoje, anos depois, acabei indo trabalhar com tradução e ultimamente ando considerando continuar meus estudos, porque agora faz mais sentido pra mim. Minha vontade é fazer mestrado em linguística, que é minha área de formação e que eu sou apaixonada desde novinha, ou em letras estrangeiras e tradução, que faz sentido com a carreira que eu estou seguindo. Dito isso, tenho um monte de perguntas e queria pedir opiniões: 1. Ter um mestrado é bom pro mundo do trabalho fora da universidade? Ou só vale a pena mesmo pra seguir carreira acadêmica? 2. Vejo muita gente que concilia CLT com mestrado e sei que é difícil, mas o quão difícil? 3. Nunca fiz IC nem tive notas incríveis super altas na graduação. Isso me prejudica? 4. Se eu decidir fazer o mestrado, por onde começo? Preciso encontrar um orientador primeiro? Devo falar com professores das minhas áreas de interesse? Como eu faço um projeto de pesquisa? Precisa ser de algum projeto que já esteja rolando no departamento ou não necessariamente? 5. Olhando os sites da fflch sobre pós, vi as opções de programas de mestrado e dentro delas as linhas de pesquisa, mas não entendi muito bem a diferença. Preciso escolher uma linha de pesquisa ou pensar um projeto e ver em qual linha ele se encaixa? 6. Parece que antigamente não podia ter bolsa e trabalho CLT ao mesmo tempo, mas isso mudou de uns tempos pra cá, confere? Como funciona? 7. O que mais eu deveria saber sobre mestrado?
Sou muito leiga nos assuntos de pesquisa, mas agradeço desde já qualquer resposta que tiver!

We adopted our Birdie girl in November and she's now 6 months old. The shelter listed her as a Westie mix, her spay papers listed her as a Chiweenie, but we didn't think either was right. I grew up with a deer head Chihuahua, and she has the same affinity for snuggling. We thought for sure she was part Jack Russell based on her energy levels and very Terrier behavior (this girl has a strong killing prey and LOVES shaking her toy squirrel). She's also been losing her puppy fur and is starting to grow long, coarse hairs, which also points to Terrier.
We were so surprised when we received her Wisdom Panel results...POODLE??? After we got the results we started Googling all kinds of Chihuahua mixes with the breeds in her panel. The closest we came was a ChiPit (last picture), but she's only 7% American Pitbull Terrier.
What do you guys think? What does she look like to you? How can she have so much Poodle and have zero characteristics?

10 years ago when I was 21, I was living with my bf who suffered from depression. I know now he had narcissism, I was just young, naive, autistic af, and fell for the older man. I was manipulated to hell, and was under extreme stress for 3 years. My only goal was to make him happy.
I remember him threatening to unalive himself pretty much once a week. Whenever I tried to involve professionals, he would threaten to break up with me and make out like I was blowing it all out of proportion, and it was just the alcohol talking when he said those things. This whole rinse and repeat scenario happened day in and day out. It became normal, it became my life.
The weird thing I came to mention is that even though I knew it was a possibility, I never let myself believe it would really happen. I didn’t really have a choice, when you are in the weeds with mental health and a horrific situation like this, your brain just goes into survival mode. He was on medication and seeing a dr quite regularly also, so in my head ‘everything would be fine’.
But the situation was not fine. And it did end badly, he ended up doing the deed because I stood up to him for the first time in the relationship, and I guess that was enough to push him over the edge. Once I discovered him, I was not shocked in the least. I must have known deep down this was always going to happen.
My theory is deb is in the exact same mental state. She knows she COULD do something, but Eugenia is manipulating and squirming and making out everything is normal so aggressively, that after the 5150 deb doesn’t want herself or Eugenia to go through that ‘terrible time’ again. I bet it fees like what I went through, knowing the threat of death is near. But her brain has been conditioned over time to live with it, and at least she has Eugenia all to herself this way. It’s not like my bf was in this state when we first got together, he hid it, and slowly over time it got worse and worse until I didn’t notice it anymore.

2025.01.20 16:47 HelpfulPug I am stuck in 1680x1050 aspect ration. When I looked for solutions all I found were the same issue from PoE1 days. Does anyone know why I am having this issue and how to make it work correctly?
Once I set it to fullscreen I got stuck in 1680x1050. The same issue has apparently been a part of PoE for years. Could someone tell me the work around for this issue? How could something like that even possibly happen? I've never had that issue with a game before.
Is there anyway to play this like a modern game instead of an old emulation? I'd like to.
