To set the scene, I’ve always been the friend people go to when they needed help either via free business or marketing advice or money, because I always always had significant savings in the bank, like a little business beaver.
Long story short, last year was financially fuckery for me and for the first time, I had nothing to my name. I was being evicted from an apartment I couldn’t afford anymore, even on the embarrassing salary for a job I took to try to untuck myself.
Anywho, as I was being evicted and desperately trying every intervention and applying for every grant known to man, I had to leave the apartment. My bf’s kids didn’t want me or the dog living with their dad because they’re allergic to dogs, a friend with a second condo said I couldn’t stay there because it’s still going through probate so no one should be staying there. To stay with my dog, I had to rent a room in the absolute hood of shit hole places to live.
Another ‘friend’ I’ve helped with projects told me after I moved into this bum crack place ‘I have a spare room but I don’t want to bring friends or anyone else into my family home.’ Fair enough, but this stung at the time because I was desperate and having an absolute nervous breakdown. For context I’m medically diagnosed with bipolar and am a home bunny so where I live is of highest priority to me.
Anyway, within 4 months of this financial fuckery and near eviction, I signed contracts last week that mean I’m now making the most money I’ve ever made. Major win and a proud moment for sure - so much so I finally feel like I can scatter my father’s ashes because now I know he would be proud. Because I also quit alcoholism last year while all this shit was going on. The irony of my life falling apart almost immediately when I got sober is not lost on me…
The friend with the empty condo going through probate asked for my help with stuff. I refused. She offered to pay. I still didn’t want to, but spent maybe 3 hours sorting out her mess for her to turn around and say she’s done it herself so doesn’t need to pay me now. Is it just me? AITAH for feeling resentful or do I need to find new friends? AITAH for refusing to ever help any of these ‘friends’ ever again without charging them the same price I charge clients?
For additional context I’m fiercely loyal to my friends. If a friend was going through this best believe I would have found a way to help them.

Just noticed in my files app there are 2 files titled null and null2 from about 4-5 years ago. I opened one but they both contained no data. I googled what a null file is and the first thing to come up said a null file is a malware generated file. Another said it means a file isn’t downloaded properly and therefore has no data to access which would make more sense. Should I be concerned. It’s apparently been in my files for years so I’m sure if it was bad something would’ve happened by now but as I opened one I wanted to check even though it was empty.

How do you guys do low power servers ? Still will enough performance to download , transcode and stream stuff ?
