Like many other posters I am concerned about the future and looking for some advice and resources. I am at least 70/30 against anything ever happening that will require me to do anything with a gun, partly because I think the left will role over, but I want to be prepared and personally not role over to what I'm scared is coming.
I have an AR15, 10/22, and a Mark IV pistol. AR15 because you just kinda have to at this point. 10/22 and Mark IV for cheap training and backup if needed. For the last three months I have gone out at least once to three times a week to relearn to shoot and get to know my guns. Busting my ass getting in shape, side lined by a surgery but getting back to it. Looking into formal training. However, there is zero left leaning training within 100 miles. Probably just going to keep my mouth shut and get through it so I know what I am doing. I have always been a pretty good shot and getting it back after 20 years without touching a gun.
What I don't have is a realistic handgun or gear.
The closest place I can rent handguns to shoot is just over 100 miles away and doesn't appear to have the best selection so it's not easy for me to find what will work for me. I plan to make the trip when I have some models narrowed down to try. I have gone to gun stores to hold them but not sure how useful that is. I have a general list of things I think I want:
- Currently I do not ever plan to concealed or open carry. Just not for me.
- I am a big guy with largeish hands so something small isn't really comfortable for me.
- I want it to be reliable dragged through the mud.
- Parts, magazines, and amo as plentiful as you could hope in a crisis situation.
- 9 mm.
I have no gear. Right now I would be running down the street with magazines falling out of my pockets, no way to provide aid to someone in need, and die of starvation and thirst in no time.
I am lurking in different subs for gear but have no desire to engage there if I don't have to but also really unsure of what is good/bad/needed.
A breakdown of what makes sense to have and where to get it and why would be very helpful. And not just a plate carrier and the like but what gun parts wear out so have three on hand or a water filtration straw is necessary.
My mission is long term survival not jumping into a single battle.
I'm not wealthy so I would appreciate cheaper options but I'll make it work.
How does the left organize? I have no idea what to do. Particularly in Montana.
I'm not a prepper. I don't have a particular desire to fight anyone. I volunteered canvassing for Tester, tried to engage with people to convince them of what was happening, and donated a lot for me but I think that time has passed. Right now it, to me, looks like Nazi Germany of the twentieth century = MAGA America of the twenty first and its not just going to go away.
They came for blank and I said nothing because I was not blank.
I don't want that to be me.
How to be most effective, I don't know. If it turns out to be more canvassing great but I want to be prepared for whatever it actually is.
