2025.01.22 04:58 Cynyr What OS do you all use for your Plex servers? Having some trouble with Debian based Linux and wanting to try something better
I've been using Plex for a very long time. I think around 10 years. My first Plex server ran on Windows 7 and I held out on upgrading to Windows 10 for as long as I could. Well, recently Windows 11 is getting pushed hard and I'd rather not have an insecure old Windows 10 server sitting in my house. My hardware was working fine for years, no reason to replace everything just to get a stupid TPM module. So I switched to Linux. I've played with it plenty in the past. Wasn't a problem since I keep all my media on separate drives from the OS.
HOWEVER, I started running into problems pretty quickly. I started with Ubuntu because easy. Scanned in some of my files and then the machine shit itself and died. Strange. Booted back up, scanned again, died again. After 3 or 4 attempts, I managed to get all my media loaded in. But then, when I tried to do a library upgrade, it goes for a full scan and shits itself and dies. I gave up on trying to upgrade my library.
Instead, I decided to do the standard troubleshooting. Is this a hardware issue or OS issue? Installed Manjaro but couldn't for the life of me get RDP to work, installed Debian, got RDP to work in 3 minutes. Attempt to scan in my files, Debian shits itself and dies.
Switch out the old Windows 7 era Mobo for "new" Mobo / CPU / RAM that recently came out of my primary gaming machine. Known functional. Only switched it out so I could upgrade that machine to Windows 11.
Boot up Debian Plex machine, attempt to scan files into Plex, shits itself and dies. It ain't my hardware. It seems to me that Debian based Linux just CANNOT handle large amounts of Disk I/O.
So what are you guys / gals using that doesn't shit itself and die when you try to scan your stuff into Plex?
And to be clear here, I'm not looking for help trying to get this install working or post logs to try to fix it. I'm perfectly happy to just install another OS. I don't care what it is. I just want to not have to touch it once it's up. Ability to easily set up RDP so I can just stick it in a corner with a network cable also a plus.

2025.01.22 04:58 Scarsitus Don't feel like I can stay in my job but I can't just quit because no other job is hiring.
Im not usually a poster but I've just been extremely stressed and I just need some advice. For some quick background info, Im an IT major, got my degree 5 years ago and had some up and down luck finding jobs. Around July 2023 I got laid off from my last IT job because they were cutting costs and all the recent hires had to go. So I was jobless until around February 2024, where I got a job from the wife of one of my dad's friends who needed people for a job. I talked with her and it was a simple Data Entry job for a non profit, and I thought "Hell yeah, Data Entry is pretty easy and Im getting paid $19 an hour? I can start fixing my debt and pay my rent with less worries!". So it was pretty chill up until June, when apparently the government defunded us and almost everyone had to be laid off by the end of July. But then that was set back so the lay off didnt happen until the end of September. Before the layoff happened, I was in contact with the head of a separate department of that non profit, who liked me and wanted me to work with her, and I desperately needed a job because god damn did I try but literally no one else was responding to my applications, and it payed more than the Data Entry one.
So end of October I get hired, and I find out that the job is Intensive Case Manager, aka a Social Worker, and for victims of abuse as well. So I decide to tough it out because I had my boss with me and with her guiding me I thought I could do this for a bit before trying to find something new, the training was good and went smooth. Well, that all went to shit when the fucking FIRED MY BOSS right before Christmas, this 60+ year old woman who had worked for that company for over 30 YEARS. And there has not been anyone to replace her yet so my immediate boss is my old boss, who is more intimidating and hard to talk to. And now I just, have no one to guide me anymore. I started shadowing cases cause holidays finally ended but at the literal end of the work day of my first shadowing, I get assigned a fucking case while I was driving home and dont find out until the next day. And the realization of what this job truly is and entails finally hits me and all I can describe it as is, extremely overwhelming. I havent been this stressed out since I was dealing with an incredibly depressed and suicidal ex-girlfriend, so Im not handling the stress well at all. My loved ones are starting to notice it taking a toll on me, and they'll tell me I'll be fine but I genuinely cannot see myself toughing it out. I havent even started an official case and I've already had 3 separate panic attacks and they just fucking assigned me another case today right before I left.
I know the smart thing to do is to wait until I have a job lined up and quit/resign but I genuinely, GENUINELY do not think I have it in me to stay in this job until then. I'm a fucking IT guy, I dont want to call people and do home visits and deal with abuse victims because I am not fucking trained for that. I know I should just follow the prompts and say what they say and to not let this job define me. But literally all I see about social work is how they dont leave you with a personal life, how its incredibly stressful and the pay/benefits suck ass. I desperately want to quit for my mental health's sake but everyone tells me it'll be worse for me to quit without having another job lined up and I understand that, but I really dont think I have the mental capacity to stay in this job without losing my mind.
I have an appointment with my therapist next week so I'll like, discuss this with her then but Im just. I feel stuck and terrified and depressed, I feel like Im actually gonna lose my mind.

I got sent a sample from Wildcraft Herb Company on my last order. I’m usually all about green: I love their Here Comes the Sun (so sad they’re out of their big bags right now :( I don’t get paid until Thursday so I wasn’t able to nab bone) for its mood boosting and motivation, and the “Grounded in Green” is really solid, too. Very motivational and got me over some creative humps. The sample was a red blend, and I can honestly say I’d only had more commercial brand’s red and found it kind of underwhelming so I was curious but had pretty low expectations.
Holy crap I could never have been more unduly uncharitable. It was pretty awesome and a completely different experience from my last! I felt so chill and painless, my anxiety lessened and there was a huge reduction in my muscle spasms, probably due to the anxiety melting down. “Vintage Micro Red” I just ran out and I’m excited to try some of their other ones. The “rooted in red” really piqued my interest so I’m thrilled to place my next order.
Now, I’m posting this so I won’t forget to sing it’s praises, but again, I don’t get paid until Thursday. If you’re reading this, please don’t buy the rest lol I want to give them business but I also want my red and green. They do small batches which is great for quality but bad for people like me who can only make a purchase three or four times a year. Save some for me lol Wildcraft is the best
