well, this is his first relationship but my third. i used to have a crush on him one year ago and i started to have feelings for him after the summer break ended. i confessed and we became a couple. he used to not love me but started to love me more and more as time passed. but i lost my interest in him. i always have this problem in my relationships. i crush on other person and when we become something i just lose these feelings. i feel so guilty about not liking him back as much as he loves me.
and the cherry on top is i saw the messages he sent to his girl best friend (i know her, she likes someone else she's a normal girl) and he was saying "i love her, when i get a notification my heart pounds thinking it's her" and i felt real guilty. i know i should like him because he's himself but he's too cheesy for me. honestly, i can't even give him normal responses other than "awww" and "thank youuu". he probably acts this way so i wouldn't be mad at him or that i wouldn't feel like a burden. i miss the conversations we had when we were just friends. he's acting like we just met (we knew each other since 2023 december) we actually talked about the whole "cheesiness" thing but he didn't stop.
i don't know if i should talk to him or not. what can i do right now?

I have a 9 yr old daughter and I’m done having kids. Can’t afford another one financially and mentally. I hear it all the time from family how I should have another one but now I have to hear it from my daughter. This is almost an everyday thing , “I wish I had siblings” “ I’m going to grow up alone” “why can’t you just have a baby” “everyone I know has siblings”. We have 3 new babies in the family and I feel like that just made it worse. She has friends, she goes on play dates constantly, her cousins come over all time. I do my best to keep her around other kids so she doesn’t feel lonely. Sometimes I get in my head & feel sad and get mom guilt.😞 if you went through this with your child how did you navigate this?

Anybody know of any mechanics that install front license plates? We bought a car from a state that didn’t require front license plates and there’s no pre drilled holes in the front bumper to attach the plate or a bracket. We can just drill a couple holes ourselves but I’d feel better paying a professional to do it so we don’t screw it up.

Providing the donation obviously involves an immoral act, but I don't think that's the biggest issue to worry about here. Plus, refusing to date a man who has ever engaged in that activity would probably result in a total scarcity of potential mates. It's troubling that a man could live his life without worrying about the material and spiritual needs of children somewhere in the world he helped create, even if only passively. I think it shows a lack of empathy or concern you would expect in the person you might spend the rest of your life with. All the secular stuff I’ve read basically says, “Your call.” I wonder if a Catholic perspective can add more to that answer.

Throw-away account hier. Even hier iets delen wat ik niet echt met vrienden kan delen. En om alle harde spaarders hier ook wat moed en inspiratie te geven :-)
Ik ben laat begonnen aan mijn FIRE reis, maar wel binnen 8 jaar FIRE geworden! Veel sneller dan verwacht. Natuurlijk geluk gehad met de beurs de afgelopen jaren. Als ik op een ander moment was begonnen, had het ook anders uitgepakt. Maar ook dankzij discipline.
Bio.
- Getrouwd stel met twee kids (basisschool)
- Ik circa 2x modaal inkomen (gemeente), vrouw 1,5 x modaal (zorg).
- Koophuis (twee onder een kap, NB)
- Gescheiden financiën. Zij heeft haar geld, ik de mijne (we delen alle kosten 50%-50%)
- 120k startkapitaal (overwaarde eerdere woning, dit tel ik niet mee in de 8 jaar)
- daarna elke maand heb ik circa 40% van met netto salaris bij Meesman belegd.
- That's it :-)
- ja, ik wel. Ik heb genoeg opgebouwd om tot pensioen/AOW leeftijd te kunnen rentenieren. Hoeveel dat precies is hou ik liever voor mezelf (doet er ook niet echt toe)
- het vermogen is niet voldoende dat mijn vrouw ook kan stoppen met werken. Maar zij wil dat ook niet (wil ook niet voor FIRE sparen). En we hebben dus gescheiden financiën.
nee, waarschijnlijk niet. Iig de komende paar jaar niet. Omdat
- ik mijn werk eigenlijk best leuk vind (iig leuk genoeg)
- mijn vrouw niet FIRE is
- kids nog op basisschool
Dus het is allemaal voor niks geweest?
Zeker niet, want
- werken voelt met FI veel prettiger, omdat het niet 'moet'. Het voelt veel meer als een keuze
- ik nu ook part-time kan werken (zoals mijn vrouw) als ik niet meer elke maand veel doorsluis naar Meesman
- ik mijn kapitaal ook kan inzetten om mijn vrouw eerder met pensioen te laten gaan. Dan zijn we er nog niet. Maar als ik ervoor kan zorgen dat we beide 5 tot 10 jaar eerder kunnen stoppen i.p.v. ik in mijn eentje 15 tot 20 jaar, dan is dat zeker ook een interessante optie (tot zo ver zij er voor open staat)
- worst case scenario: mijn vrouw blijft werken tot 68, ik (daardoor) ook nog een hele tijd en we kopen een dik vakantiehuis in het buitenland of de kids erven lekker veel later ;-)
Geleerde lessen / adviezen
- Never too late. Je kan ook op 'late leeftijd' beginnen. Ik was eind 30
- Het is haalbaar, ook zonder bijzonder hoog inkomen. Ik heb geen slecht inkomen, maar ook niet bijzonder hoog. Maar ook dan kan het met wat discipline
- Brief aan je zelf. Om me te helpen om koers te houden, schreef ik elke 2 a 3 jaar een brief aan mezelf met goede adviezen (paniekeer niet tijdens een crash, kijk uit voor lifestyle creep, switch niet te veel van fondsen, etc)
- Automatiseren. Voor mij werkte automatiseren heel goed. Daarom erg blij met Meesman, ook al kan je iets goedkoper uit zijn bij andere partijen (draai niet elk dubbeltje om!). Door te automatiseren, heb ik bijv. het nog niet eens doorgehad dat de markt dipte tijdens de pandemie. Kortom, het helpt je om wat meer afstand te bewaren en dus ook minder gevaar van 'panic sells'
- RE plannen. Ik heb te veel tijd geïnvesteerd in de 'harde kant' van de FIRE planning (excels, backtesting, kosten verlagen, etc). Achteraf gezien, had ik meer tijd in de 'zachte kant' moeten investeren (wat ga ik doen als ik RE ben, hoe combineert dit met het gezinsleven, een nuttige bijdrage kunnen leveren, etc)
Voor iedereen in de boring middle: keep it up, you will get there!
