I am planning to apply for PhD programs in biosciences again for Fall 2025, and I would greatly appreciate advice on which universities might be a good fit for my profile, as well as insights into any programs still accepting applications. I am an international student who lives in South Korea.
Below are my academic and professional details:
- Academic Background: -Bachelor’s Degree: .Field: Medical Laboratory Science .GPA: 3.29/4.00 -Master’s Degree: .Field: Microbiology .GPA: 4.45/4.50
- Research Experience: -Research assistant since September 2023, till now. -3 years of research experience as a laboratory assistant. So total of 4.5+ of experience.
- Projects for publication:
- My master thesis research is in the last stage of preparation for publication. -Worked on two master project as a research assistant, and one is under preparation for publication.
- Publications and Presentations: -3 Poster Presentation in domestic conference. -One publication as co-author.
- Honors and awards -Fully funded by the prestigious Global Korea Scholarship. -Awarded as one of the top five presentations among 100 participants from various South Korean universities.
- I have ILETS band 7.0.
Based on my profile, which universities/programs in the U.S., Canada, or Europe might be a good fit?
Are there any universities still accepting PhD applications for Fall 2025?
Any advice on how to further strengthen my application?

My question then is what good did Biden EO do, if anything? Since it seems this issue was settled by the SCOTUS during Trumps first term? I am entering my second semester of my Junior year as an undergraduate, I am majoring in Pre-Veterinary Sciences. I've got a bit over 250 hours of internship experience but plan to get a ton more this summer before I complete applications. My GPA is... not competitive whatsoever. I think I'm around 3.2 right now? Which is really embarrassing to say, please go easy on me. Anyways. I really don't think I will get into vet school on my first try. But what do you do from that point? Is it recommended to work at different clinics and rack up the internship experience hours, or would it be better to try and get a master's degree in like biology or public health? My dream school also offers masters programs, do you think they'd be more willing to accept me if I had a master's degree *from them*?
Also, unrelated, but what the hell did you guys write your application essays about? I heard that writing about anything mental-health-challenge related is an easy way to get declined because of the high suicide rate within the industry, but I feel like I have no other idea what I could write about. My college application essay was about anxiety. I literally have no clue what to write about that wouldn't be about my mental health or something extremely boring or irrelevant. Thank you for any insight
