2025.01.23 03:59 burge4150 Caution: Self promo at r/gaming lead to permanent damage to internet presence
I don't know if this is allowed here, but it's a bit of a warning to other devs.
Early on in my dev career I posted at a gaming about my game. They removed the post, and said I was breaking rules. So I went about my reddit days, participating. A few months later, I figured I was well beyond that 10% promo rule so I posted again and they banned me. I appealed, got some snark, and remained banned.
I didn't actually do the math on my reddit posts and may have been over the 10% limit, I'm not claiming no guilt here.
This was like two years ago. Recently, someone on my team (Let's call him Jeff) reached out to their mods to discuss my project and possibly making a post about it. Keeping it on the up and up, he told them I was banned there, linked the post that got me banned, and tried to continue the dialog.
The mods first accused Jeff of being my alt (he's not).
Jeff explained that he was simply reaching out as a rep for the game to talk about posting about it with them. The mods then said that not only am I banned, but now and going forward ANY post about my game there, no matter by who, will be removed. Someone links a legit news article? Someone posts that they like the game? Doesn't matter.
That. Sucks.
A passing comment in a thread about my game on that sub from a random user this last week drove over 600 wishlists in 2 days for me.
Now, anyone who talks about my project there in any capacity will have their post removed.
Lesson: You're better off just never trying to post there. You'll do permanent damage to your internet presence.

About two weeks ago after walking past an icy patch my dog (small, 19lbs) was lifting her paws and limping slightly. After a day of some limping I took her to the vet to be sure bc was worried about ccl. They weren’t too concerned; prescribed anti inflammatory and 2 weeks rest. We are coming up on the 2 weeks and she is doing well in the house/indoors generally; however, once we go outside into the cold (has been 20° or below) the limp becomes much more prominent and sometimes she does a little hop too. It has been snowy and icy but we’ve been avoiding it as much as possible.
Anyone dealt with similar? Any advice?

Been using homebridge-nest plugin for some time perfectly, no issues at all. Just went to install a new Nest thermostat to replace my old one, and can't figure out how to "update" to the plugin to see the new thermostat on HomeKit. Using the Google Account - Cookies method, but can't seem to get it to see the new guy. Let me know if y'all can help.

- I want to start trading and putting together my first PVP toon since I've been playing again. I dont know what to make. Assuming you had unlimited access to any gear you needed, what would be your first choice for a PVP char? What is the most OP build there is right now? I say 'right now' because there are a handful of new runewords since I last played.
- Have you ever seen someone try to make an elemental zeal pali? I mean there are is a ton of elemental gear - especially now - that would nice on a melee char. Could probably get to like level 60 Holy Fire. Someone tell me its late, this is a terrible idea and I should go to sleep.

Hi all, I have a 17-18 week old kitten with lots of kitten energy that seems to want to constantly play. He naps during the work day (I WFH and he will snooze in a corner in the room somewhere) but as soon as I'm done with work he wants to play until bed time. It's pretty exhausting and I feel guilty that I can't always play with him because I need to unwind or do some chores.
Currently we have the following in our rotation ( usually do a couple of them for maybe 30-45 mins a day) :
- Hide and seek: I take a small mouse toy and put it in various (visible) areas in the room/house that he has to jump to. eg. On different levels of the cat tree, on the window sill behind the couch etc.
- Usually we play for 10-15 mins, but it doesn't seem like too physically intensive even with all the jumps so I'm not sure if it's good exercise or not
- Door hunt: The gaps under our doors is wide enough for a paw to slide under, so I get a small crinkle toy or mouse toy and stuff it in the gap. He will swat out the toy and bunny kick it for a bit, and I will get another one and stuff in a different section. Rinse and repeat.
- Also usually play for 5-15 mins. Similar to hide and seek, this is the least physically intensive of them
- Just throwing shit: Literally just throw a toy down the hall way and he will chase until he gets bored.
- Amount 5-10 mins. Sometime he will bunny kick the toy, sometimes he just chases it to chase it.
- Interactive/wand play: I get the cat dancer out or some other wand toy (he doesnt like them as much). I will also run up and down the hallway for him to chase.
- This lasts maybe 5-15 mins and he loves this, but is tiring for me to do more than 10 mins at a time. We probably play this twice a day/whenever he's hyper and he always has energy for more.
Can anyone recommend how I can tire him out a bit more and if what I'm doing is enough/can be improved on? Thanks!!

My wife's rig died on her yesterday. Has been having power notifications, but since she's literally only been driving it less than 5 miles a day I figure it wasn't being driven enough to actually charge. Previous testing included Voltage reading with vehicle off before and after a 20 mile drive at highway speed and it registered an increase in Voltage.
Voltage reading at idle after startup read less than 12v, but more than 11, and it did increase to charging capable Voltage when RPM increased higher than idle speed.
I pulled the battery today, and the sides are swollen and it's dated 5/21 so figure it's over 3 years old and our subzero temps here are just hard on batteries. I'm planning on putting a new battery in and changing the serpentine belt as a simple should be done anyway fix.
It has a voltage regulator attached to the battery, though, so what's the testing I need to do in order to verify whether the voltage regulator is functioning? I can get a used alternator from a local yard for $40, but I'd rather have a diagnosis rather than firing the parts cannon.

My ex and I broke up about three weeks ago, but we still text every day, and we both get jealous when certain things are said about other people. I know it’s over to some extent, but I can’t fully get over him. We’re talking less and less each day, but I still want him to act obsessed with me and stay attached. I feel like the only way to make him “go crazy” for me again is if I lose weight. He says he’s still in love with me, but he doesn’t act the same way he used to. How can I get him back to wanting to call me and talk to me like he did before?
For context, he’s 47, and I’m 23. We broke up because he wasn’t there for me when I needed him. Towards the end of our relationship, I found out he was married, which really threw me off. We were together every day—working out together, he came over daily, we took week-long trips, and I met his family (his grandma, brothers, and best friends). Despite finding out about his marriage, I stayed in the relationship and continued talking to him. Now, I’m not sure if I love him or if I just love the routine of having him in my life.
During our relationship, I talked to other people because I sensed something was off, but I didn’t know exactly what. When I found out about his marriage, he told me he couldn’t leave because “where would he go?” since I didn’t have my own place at the time. Now that I do, his excuse is still the same: “I have a son, I can’t just up and leave.” He says things are bad with his wife, but he can’t leave yet because of his situation. He even told me, “I need to find myself first.”
What confuses me is that he has a 13-year-old son and would spend whole days with me, so I had no idea he was married. He would even come over late and stay until around 6 a.m. I still want things to work between us, even though I know he’s not the best choice. He has no job, a failing business, smokes weed, has a leg issue, and eight kids—two of whom he’s not even sure are his. One of the kids is from an affair he had in the first year of his marriage, and another is from a girlfriend he had for three years before me.
Now, after we’ve stopped working out together, he’s been training another woman at the gym—a Mexican woman (we’re both Black). He once said that if he had made it to the NFL, he would’ve married a Colombian woman and had mixed children, even though all his kids and his wife are Black. When he told me about his marriage, he said his wife had let herself go, and that things weren’t the same between them. He even said they haven’t had sex since early last year, before he met me.
Despite all of this, I’m still lost. I’m struggling to understand what I’m feeling and how to move forward. A part of me still wants us to work, even though I know deep down he’s not the right person for me.

Toronto and GTA feels so isolating I can't put my finger on it.
Just hard to feel like sense of belonging here.
There's too many segregated communities all spread out within the GTA.
