I’ve scrolled through almost this entire subreddit and found barely any posts about hidden knowledge, which is the very essence of Gnosticism.
You’d think a community based on gnosis—obtaining hidden knowledge—would at the very least discuss it.It is literally one of the core principles of this religion but it's simply glossed over.
Instead it seems like it’s turned into a pop culture hub, with posts like, 'What’s your favorite Aeon? Teehee.' There’s no mention of where gnosis can be found in praxis, like ancient libraries lost to history.Or perhaps a book that has been censored.
It seems like there’s no real structure here—no research clubs, no papers, not even a basic database of things to explore. I’ve seen high school parties that are more organized than this.
I feel like this subreddit completely misses the mark by a long shot.
So Im asking if anybody knows of any other forums or places to join?

This is a question for historians mostly, particularly those familiar with surnames or clans of Gaelic origin. My grandmother was Norwegian, according to my grandfather. I never knew her. The only thing I know is that she didn't speak very much English, she was most likely born in Norway. I found her marriage certificate, so I know she was 18 in 1960 when she married, assuming she didn't lie about her age. She married my biological grandfather in North Dakota, his last name was Williams. Her last name on the marriage certificate was Flatlie. It's not a very common last name by any means. During my research, which is limited to online databases, I found that the similar name of Flatley or Flaherty is derived from descendants of a noble family that was Irish-Gaelic in origin, Ó Flaithbheartaigh. There are a few variations of last names that came from that same lineage, but Flatlie isn't listed. Is it safe to assume that this variation of a similar name is also related to the same possible lineage, that the spelling is just a little different? If so, does anyone know where I might find more detailed information on the history of the Ó Flaithbheartaigh clan and how my grandmother might have ended up in North Dakota, USA a thousand years after the family was pushed into west Ireland? My grandfather told us that my grandmother was Norwegian, but the name is Irish in origin, and it's made me very curious about where she may have grown up, who her parents were, if she had siblings, etc. My dad and his siblings don't remember her because they were put into the system very young. I don't know what she looked like, where my ancestors are from, for which a quarter of my DNA derives. Mostly I want to know where I should visit to connect with my mysterious heritage someday and I'd like to have some answers, or, at the very least, better informed questions when I do visit. I've been connected to my Native American heritage on my mom's side since I was born. But I'd like to connect to the part of me that is more obvious. I have more Native DNA than that I got from my Nordic grandmother, but I don't look Native like my sister or my mom, or most of my giant family. I'm in my early thirties and I'm getting white strands of hair instead of gray ones, I have blonde hair on my arms and legs, I have pale skin. I know I have Nordic roots, I just want to explore them.
I couldn't find many people (in the world) that have the last name Flatlie. I am hoping one of the few might see this and find something of note here. If so, I implore you to message me with any information that might connect somehow. If you're a historian, I'd love a response to help me figure out any gaps I keep running into or a gentle way of letting me know if what I'm seeking is a fruitless pursuit and that I might never get the answers I seek. I wish I had more information, but my dad was adopted. When he and his siblings had a chance to reach out to their real dad, none of them had the money to visit him before he died, along with any information he might have had about my grandmother. I don't know when/if/where she might have died but if she was 18 in 1960, than she was born in either 1942 or -1943, which apparently is too recent to be public knowledge yet. I've searched North Dakota databases, Norwegian databases (with the help of translation) and haven't been able to find a crumb that connects me to my grandmother's past.
The more I hit these walls in my research that I started a few months ago, the more I want to try utilizing those DNA tests. If I do, and if anyone actually ever reads this post (haha) I'll update it with my results.
