2025.01.23 04:10 Lapis_Wolf What are some areas of worldbuilding that are affected by conlangs and scripts, but are often overlooked/forgotten?
Some things I have thought about and would need to be changed to fit local (often non-alphabetical) scripts of my world:
• Books, scrolls and other physical media, and by extension shelves and libraries, may be altered depending on the reading/writing directions, size, and shape of the scripts, as well as the average length of words and sentences, as well as any possible pictograms in a language.
• English and many other Western languages are read left to right, so while our books are made to accommodate that, it has also spread the idea of left to right being the way to depict something moving forward. Imagine or look for a video depicting a timeline of events or a general idea of "moving into the future" and you will most likely see an arrow moving from the left side of the image to the right side. What about people who read languages like Hebrew or Arabic which are read right to left? What about scripts read top to bottom, or bottom to top, or switches directions between lines (including symbol direction like in some ancient Greek texts). Not only book designs, but importantly for this point, this could affect their idea of what "forward" looks like in a visual depiction. In my world, many scripts would be read right to left, so they may see "forward" as right to left.
• Part of this point is related to the last point: technology design. If numbers are read left to right, would round car speedometers be designed to increase counterclockwise? Would horizontal speedometers move in a straight line right to left? Some of the number systems in my world are dodecimal (base 12) rather than decimal (base 10), and there would be other bases as well. Our meters are often labeled in periods/multiples of 5 or 10 ("5, 10, 15, etc"; "10, 20, 30, etc"; etc). If a society in my world uses base 12, would gauges like the afformentioned car speedometers be labelled (in decimal for our ease of understanding) "6, 12, 18, etc" or "12, 24, 36, 48, 60, etc"? What about the shape of computer monitors? Buttons? The amount of buttons and layout of a keyboard? Could they design their own first computers with thousands of symbols made with stroke order, context and tonal variants (like Chinese, with thousands of characters and different meanings for the same characters based on tone and probably other parts I don't remember or know), but without an existing template to take inspiration from (imagine if China could not use Western computers as a starting point)? Maybe other machines would be affected as well, like the controls of airships and trains. What would signage on the sides of these vehicles looks like for different scripts (and other signage as well)? What would storage media be like? More complicated and larger scripts could take more space in storage or it could encourage programming in a very storage efficient way.
• How would clocks and calenders be designed? The script type and base number system would affect how these are even thought about, let alone their physical representation.
• Trade. There are more experienced people who can explain this idea better than me.

Summary of the cube: This is a mid-power level 360 cube that focuses on having cards that have simpler text to make the experience more comfortable for newer players. I'm trying to create a fairly normal environment that isn't too locked into 2-color draft archetypes. The synergy is there but you don't have to draft synergy to succeed
I'm looking for feedback in general for the cube and if there are any weird power outliers that I'm not aware of. I'm also interested to hear if there are any cards in the cube that seems problematic to a new player for complexity reasons

Sa totoo lang, 'di ko alam kung ano pang dapat kong sabihin. For sure, nabasa mo naman yung email ko at yung mga borderline desperate chat ko before. Pasensya ka na kung 'di ko napigilan yung sarili kong i-send 'yung mga 'yon noon.
Pasensya ka na kung magulo pagkakasulat nito tulad ng isip ko ngayon. Alam mo naman, iyakin ako eh. Halos 'di ko nga natapos basahin 'yung isinulat mo dahil nag-unahan na agad yung mga luha.
Masaya akong malaman na okay ka. Sana totoo yan at 'di mo basta sinabi para lang 'di ako mag-alala. Yung exam, no pressure, if hindi mo kaya ngayon, Nards, meron pa namang susunod. Mahaba buhay natin kasi pareho tayong masamang damo haha.
Walang araw na 'di ka sumagi sa isip ko. Minsan, nahuhuli ko yung sarili kong nakatulala lang habang inaalala ka.
Ilang araw ko ring binasa yung mga message natin dati. Ilang beses kong pinakinggan yung boses mo. Makailang beses kong sinubukang intindihin kung bakit ka umalis nang walang pasabi.
Hanggang isang araw, nabura ko accidentally yung messages hahaha. Siguro, naawa na rin sa'kin si rold, sabi 'wag na raw akong umasa kasi kahit ilang beses kong basahin 'yon, 'di ka naman na babalik.
Sinubukan kong tumakbo mula sa lahat ilang araw matapos kang umalis. Binura ko lahat ng presensya ko online kasama na 'yung account sa messaging platform na ginamit natin (oo, pwede siyang mabura agad, check mo sa google haha).
Ngayon, ito ako, tamang takbo (literal) sa umaga. May nadiskubre akong lugar malapit sa'min kung saan ako pwedeng tumakbo hanggang sa mapagod ako nang tuluyan -- hanggang sa 'di ko na kayang mag-isip.
Iniisip ko kada hakbang, papalayo 'yon sa lahat ng mga complication ng buhay.
Nag-umpisa na rin akong magsulat ulit, journal. Sinasanay ko na rin yung sarili kong mag-isa. Plano kong libutin yung Rizal mag-isa (pag may libreng oras). Independent yan?
Huling araw ko ngayon sa trabaho. 'Di pa ako nag-uumpisa sa bago pero approved na lahat, ako na 'to eh haha.
Ang dami ko pang gustong ikwento sa'yo pero ayos lang, isusulat ko na lang muna para sa sarili ko.
'Wag kang mag-alala, 'di ako babalik sa "gano'ng" buhay. Binago mo 'ko. Na-factory reset mo yata 'yung... ay, pang-ibang subreddit na pala 'yon. Pero ayon, ikaw rin, 'di ka pang-ganoon lang, 'wag pasaway.

 | I’m only on season 6 but I see a lot of people say that JJ changed after she became a profiler. I’m not there yet but I’ve already seen a shift in her character. In the first couple of seasons she had a lot more personality and was more sassy and witty. Then the few seasons leading up to season 6 she’s almost “perfect”. Her character is boring. She lost the sass she had and just became a sort of one dimensional, polished character who could do no wrong. Hi, I'm F30. Last month I went to an audiologist after feeling hearing loss for the first time in my life. The condition turned more noticeable in 2023. During the Covid-19 I had the most serious ear infection I remember in my life. The ear that is more deaf rn is the one that was more infected back then. The point is, after going to the audiologist she told me based on the hearing test, that I have mixed hearing loss, she talked about the stapes bone and the other bones surrounding that area and the cochlear bone and nerve. She thinks all the damage is due to recurring ear infections in my life. She didn't want to tell me if I needed a hearing aid, she just proceeded to refer me to the ENT DR. Today I went to the appointment and I had the biggest deception, my appointment was to do an endoscopy test of my ear and the Dr didn't do it. He just asked me a few questions, said the same thing the audiologist said and that was about it. He referred me to the otologist. Now I'm fearful because I don't want Doctors to be playing games with me and my health, and also with my money. I can't literally afford things I need and I'm not doing well economically where I work. Idk if I should just concluded that I'm partially deaf and go to Costco with my hearing test to see if I can even afford one of the hearing aids they sell, or if I should continue to pay and pay, and pay more for people who won't diagnose me for the benefit of their pockets. What do you guys think?
