So, stargate sg1 and the movie are where I became interested in stargate. I have not watched all of sg1 and mostly caught it on TV from time to time. While I like it, I don't LOVE it like universe.
Maybe it was the timing of universe where I could watch it on tivo or whatever I had, where I could watch it on my own time because I wanted to without needing to catch it in order.
Stargate universe made me fall in love with the universe. Its by far, one of my favorite shows of all time. It standardized scifi television and longer form storytelling moving into today. It's character driven, a really good story. I don't really understand where so many people from the fandom are coming from when they say they don't like it.
Maybe I'm missing something, or need to like start sg1 from somewhere other than the beginning? Looking for advice here. :)

Heard back from spouse visa today - successful! Absolutely delighted. I've lurked on this subreddit a lot during the preparation to learn from others which was super helpful so thank you to everyone!
As I found these really helpful when applying myself, I thought I'd do a timeline / sense of what we submitted. Hopefully this helps someone else who's thinking of applying. Happy to answer any questions too :)
Our story:
- No lawyer - did it ourselves {my sense is that unless you have an unusual case, especially regarding finances or in cases where you have not physically met, then you don't need one even if you may feel reassured}
- Chinese citizen (f) married to a British citizen (m)
- We were married in SeptembeOctober 2024 in China
- Known each other for 10 years but really only 'evidenced' the last 4.
- Applying from 'outside' the UK (but me, the British citizen, based in UK, whilst partner based in China)
- Never formally lived together (i.e. no bills with both our names on)
- Application submitted: 17th December 2024. Standard (not priority) service.
- Suggested mid-April on application for planned entry date.
- Biometric appointment: 20th December 2024, 10:50am, in Beijing.
- Outcome (approved): 22nd January 2025, received on 23rd January 2025 through courier.
- Length - 4 1/2 weeks (probably more like 4 working weeks if you take off the public holidays around Xmas/NY). This was incredibly quick despite not applying for priority.
- Cost: 17,691 CNY (£1,915.56) (not including NHS IHS)
- Some big picture comments first:
- Number coded every document.
- And had a separate table of contents PDF ("00. Table of contents.pdf"), basically a big table, with the main categories you have to address in the spouse visa ('financial', 'genuine relationship'... etc, with the documents we had submitted that addressed that criteria, and a brief description of what that document said / contained / why it proved we met the criteria). Obviously no idea if they actually used this but I hope it helped the assessors tick the right boxes easily.
- Every document we submitted was a PDF. Generally made these in Google Slides and exported as PDF. One PDF per 'evidence', rather than one PDF per section.
- All in all, including contents, we submitted 20 PDFs.
- Track your documents, put them in folders or make a checklist to make sure you don't forget anything!
- General documents
- Passport of UK and Chinese partner
- Chinese partner's resident ID
- Tuberculosis test results (from UKVI approved centre)
- Application form, biometric appointment booking, UKVI document checklist. (Someone on YouTube seemed to think you needed to add these to your application even though the Home Office literally sends them to you... we had no idea and just put them in anyway)
- Evidence of legitimate relationship
- {This was the part we were most worried about as its the most vague and most open to interpretation}
- Marriage certificate (in Chinese and authenticated translation into English)
- Photos from the marriage ceremony (it was a civil ceremony, registry office style, we have not had a full wedding ceremony yet)
- Photos / evidence of us having met over time including with each others families, included some photos of visas, airbnbs, flights etc, holidays together, usually only enough to evidence things we'd included in our relationship 'narrative' (see two bullets down). Some people we've seen on this subreddit have included like 20 pages of text messages. We usually video chat rather than text message + we know the Home Office don't regard this as particularly strong evidence so we decided to leave out but said we did have them if the examining officer would like to see them for reference. This was quite minimal, a couple of pages of a PDF, can't have been more than 10-15 pictures.
- Screenshots of bank transfers sent to each other over the years. These are considered as stronger evidence of a connection in a long distance relationship from our reading of the guidance.
- A written 2 page PDF 'narrative' explaining our relationship to date, including we we had not already lived together or why we had not seen each other often (COVID!). This wasn't exactly evidenced so imagine it held little weight but at least told a story.
- A statement, less than 1 page, signed by both of us, showing our intention to live in the UK permanently (which is a condition of the visa). We discussed out fond memories in specific places (Edinburgh, Peak District), that I'd recently bought a house on a 5 year term, and that my partner had just passed SQE 1 and hoping to pass SQE 2 to become a registered solicitor in the UK, and wants to contribute positively to British society. We wrote that we would be so happy to be living together and enjoy married life togetherl Again, no idea how if at all this was weighted or if they even looked at it but thought these would show credible plans.
- Financial requirement {Wasn't worried about this as my salary is far enough above the threshold + uncomplicated employment in civil service}
- 9 months of payslip
- 9 months of bank balance
- Suitable accommodation
- Title deeds to house I own
- Title register for property (i.e. ordnance survey showing grounds)
- English requirement
- Chinese partner's masters degree certificate from the University of Edinburgh

I just have a lot of issues with the writing. Also disclaimer, I realize Odysseus is written really inconsistently throughout the story, where he tries to look out for his men then doesn't then does again then doesn't....
Anywah, I just don't think it makes much sense that Odysseus overcomes Poseidon through the power of friendship, through his deceased companions coming to his aid. Aside from it being cheesy, it is not earned. His actions within the story, where he chooses himself and his own wellbeing should not lead to that outcome. They should not have his back because he didn't have theirs.
I guess the worst thing he did was saving his own skin over the lives of the 30 other dudes. And you can say, fine, its those guys' fault for killing the sheep so go ahead, prioritize yourself and let the others die... but treating them that way means those men are clearly not your friends. They're just your, uh, co-workers that you fought and bled and sweat with for over decade.
Thunderbringer showed he is going to put himself before anyone else. Which... fine. But it doesn't make sense that he is rewarded with his men's loyalty and protection in the end when that's how he operates. He didn't protect them so it feels hollow to see them protecting him.
The way Odysseus overcomes Poseidon, the major culmination of events, should reflect his choices throughout the story and the person he's become. It could be through trickery, brutality, or something, I really don't know how you could make it work. But it should not be through the power of friendship.

Switch and all of a sudden I can't use it. Says denied every time yet eBay, GrubHub and websites I use my Google pay and it works fine. Same card. Talking to customer support for a week now and they keep saying the same thing that does nothing. People were not joking when they said the support was trashy.
Anyone have this issue and fix it? I assume its an issue with the virtual account it uses for contactless payments. Like I said it works for everything except tap to pay. Bank said it's not on there end its Google.

Конечно, с таким выпиранием челюсти вперёд (у меня лёгкая форма дистального прикуса, сама челюсть норм прямая, просто верхний ряд зубов прикрывает нижний) у меня челюсть максимально выходила вперёд, дабы поставить ряды в одну позицию, и это выглядело ужасно со стороны. Сейчас поспрашивал у знакомых которые проходили через это, сказали, что сама челюсть не меняется, просто ряды зубов меняются. Вообщем, пишу вам дабы 100% убедиться в этом — при эластиках на пикче меняется ли здоровая, нормальная челюсть? И если да, то как? И правда ли то, что прикус становится ровным не меняя внешний вид челюсти? Спрашиваю, ибо своей внешкой я полностью доволен,даже несмотря на неровный прикус у меня нормально выглядящая челюсть.
