Workers using the gig economy app YoungOnes have accused the company of holding their earnings to ransom by charging them a fee to receive their wages on time.
YoungOnes now charges workers 4.8 percent of their earnings to receive their wages in one minute, 2.9 percent to receive it in three days, or they can decline and receive their wages after waiting 30 days. Before this, these gig economy workers would typically receive their wages in the three-day period free of charge.
The company was founded in the Netherlands in 2017 by Pim Graafmans, as an offshoot of YoungCapital recruitment agency. InsiderMedia noted in October 2023 that “Almost 350 UK businesses have signed up to the platform to find freelancers since its launch in the UK.”
Providing a digital platform for companies to hire workers on a gig-to-gig basis without offering them basic legal protections or income stability, YoungOnes advertises, “We call it ‘work on demand’. After all, why would you want to work for a boss, if you could be one yourself?”.
This is not the reality for workers using the app. They are not their own bosses, but one of the most exploited sections of the working class.
YoungOnes is not the only app to function like this. Others include PeoplePerHour, an Israeli multinational named Fiverr, as well as Flexy and Temper. There are hundreds more.
This “pay to be paid” policy blows up the lie that the gig economy is a flexible way for workers to control their hours and receive quick money as and when needed. Tom Gillam, a gig economy retail worker from Manchester, told the Guardian, “People do gig work for short-term cash ... it feels like we’re being held to ransom… It is so immoral it’s unreal.”
The Observer found that the YoungOnes app was being used by major chains and retailers such as Urban Outfitters to supply young workers over the Christmas period, while forcing them to reapply every day for each shift. Companies involved included the exercise brand Gymshark, cosmetics brand Lush, fashion brand Uniqlo and mattress manufacturer Emma Sleeps. In each of the ads put out by these companies, they state they are looking for “freelancers”.

hello hello - changing up the posting style to perhaps draw in more responses, maybe it'll work? maybe not? either way, season 7 of Diablo IV just launched so it's big chillin' for moi
i'm a 30 year old male born and raised in the UK - been around these parts for a long time (not counting my account age) and met some of the most wonderful people, including my fiancé of three years - currently in the process of uprooting my life, getting the proper documents and moving to the US :)
for the time being, I have a lot of down time - as you can imagine with being in a long distance relationship, I spend a fair amount of time by myself when my partner is working, hence why I am posting here and to other subreddits. i'm mostly free in the evenings after I finish work and during the mornings on weekends.
i'd like to find some neat folk who'd like to chat, voice call and possibly play games with during this time, and in return I can offer the following:

2025.01.23 19:50 doulos52 I'm a YEC and I'm open to evolution if it could be demonstrated...but it can't.
My YEC mindset (faith) is a rather large obstacle to overcome when trying to accept evolution, not that I'm really trying. But I don't like being called a science denier and I don't think I am a science denier. I am open to evolution if it could be demonstrated. It has never been demonstrated that random mutation and natural section has produced DNA structures that code for new forms, features, and function. Thus, in my opinion, what has been demonstrated (beak size, bacteria resistance, moth color, etc) has not been demonstrated to produce new forms, features, and functions.
I'm trying hard to not use the words micro and macro evolution because I understand how some people think about those terms but they do go a long way in helping to describe what I'm talking about.
To me, it's a leap of faith to say the mechanism of adaptation of beak size. bacteria resistance, or moth color leads to new forms, features and functions. If it weren't for my YEC faith, I'm sure I would be more likely to receive the extrapolation because I would have no mental barriers to disallow the inference.
But that's the problem. It's still an inference.
The common next step is to list all the supporting evidence: fossil record, genetics, comparative anatomy. But those disciplines are riddled with their own interpretative inferences.
It's much easier to accept the inferences and extrapolations if one were to presuppose naturalism, where the existence and variety of animals must have a natural cause. But I'm not a naturalist. And to assume macro evolution as a naturalist is simply begging the question. For the naturalist, evolution is fact. But if it were fact, I wouldn't have to believe it.

I thought that with schroeder starting, the amount of unclutch plays and horrible shot accuracy would reduce, but it seems like playing for the dubs schroeder has only slightly better or equal accuracy than podz(its probably worse now, given that podziemski was again approching 30% FG until he got injured), but in exchange for that, the amount of unforced turnovers has massively increased. Dude is also supposed to be much more athletic, yet we rarely see him playing explosively anymore. For someone who is supposed to be a consistent double digit scorer and playmaker, he seems to be having the same problems podz has but with even more turnovers.
