2025.01.23 20:56 Strong_Warthog_2299 Series change, advice needed
I am currently an 0301. I have an opportunity at my same GS level in the 0560 series and an opportunity one GS level up in the 0101 series.
I am a military spouse and will need to PCS multiple times before hitting retirement. Here is my question: which series (0560 vs. 0101) would be more advantageous career-wise, keeping in mind the constant moving?
I’m not knowledgeable enough to know if 0560 or 0101 series positions are more plentiful across the board, etc. Thank you in advance for your patience and kindness in your responses.

2025.01.23 20:56 SaltyAdminBot Please, show us the evidence
Here’s what really rubs me wrong about what’s being said in the media is not these people that are making these claims, it’s the people are eating this up big time without ANY evidence. (As you like to call) us “nuts and bolts” guys aren’t just shitting on your “woo”. We are people that seek proper evidence for enormous claims, like has been required to do proper science and research for the past 3000+ years or however long it’s been since we started testing stuff out. If you told some random person that had never seen a magnet before that depending on which way the magnets faced they would either repel or attract each other through an invisible force, they would be like “huh?”. The next thing to do would be to GIVE THIS GUY SOME MAGNETS. He can see and he can feel the force. He has evidence right in front of him.
I am struggling with the claims right now because I stepped away from my faith and all that “spirituality” several years ago. I was not just a passive Christian either, I was very active in church groups, I was a counselor every summer at church camps. I even had an acceptance letter to a Bible college, and this was a hard-core, non-accredited, only taught courses on the Bible. I wanted to be a missionary. I even married a pastor’s kid. Fast-forward a few years after college (didn’t end up going to bible school), and I’m watching a doc on Alexander the Great (I think) and how he used his knowledge of a comet about to make a pass due to records they kept. They knew the other army was going to freak out and they made the jump on them. A light bulb went off. We attach things we don’t understand to some deity or higher power. Gradually and becoming more rapidly developing research in all of the different branches of physics has shown us that there’s usually a boring explanation to everything. In that moment I thought back on all my years and never once did “God talk to me”. I immediately lost my faith right there.
Now a different kind of religion is being introduced and is digging its claws into the subject that fascinates me the most. The “are we alone in this universe?” question we all have. I’m going to now put you in our shoes. Imagine if an overwhelming large group of Christians, Muslims, Buddhist, whatever; came to this sub and started explaining the situation and providing the answer as [insert deity here]. I am absolutely NOT trying to shit on ‘woo’ people here. You believe what you want, along with Christians, Muslims, etc. But to be quite honest I categorize you in the same way I categorize other religious people. You believe in something that doesn’t have proper evidence. You base your beliefs on FAITH.
If this guy that talked to Ross was for real, and all that stuff is true, then SHOW ME. Give me the magnets! If this is actually true then it shouldn’t matter whether or not any government discloses, this “higher spiritual frequency” thing should be able to just tap into all of us? Right? Is it a ‘combined consciousness’ type deal? Because that’s kind of what it’s sounding like.
We need evidence for the claims that are being made. Why is it that only some people have this super power? And why is it not DEMONSTRABLE? If there are so many “psychics” or whatever why aren’t we seeing this shit be broadcast on Good Morning America since GMA started? So no, sorry, we don’t believe you right now. We WILL believe you if you show us. So what do we do? How can we tap in to this frequency? How do we know the “woo” is real?
tl/dr: don’t get pissed at us for asking for evidence for enormous claims. The “woo” is equal to religion at this time. Show us how to connect to whatever spirit energy and we WILL believe you. Till then, ttyl gonna go take a nap.
Edited for typos. Probably missed a bunch.

2025.01.23 20:56 Plus_Judgment232 I have a player who wants to play a Vampire (Modified Construct archetype) in M&M’s Emerald City Knights, how do I accommodate that request with the timeline?
Pretty much just the construct archetype, but limited Immortality and Regeneration, gave the character Darkvision, Wallcrawling, and a Blood Drinking Power.
I’m not concerned about the daylight thing, player already said their character is mostly immune (a -2 complication to rolls for “sun blindness), with having lost the majority of their powers (compared to characters such as Dracula and the like) due to “repeated, sustained sunlight exposure,” player wants to play a local, a native before the storm.
My question is how could this person go undetected for so long (player and I are ball-parking this between 50 and 150 years), given that the supervillain element was underground prior to the events of the campaign. And supernatural elements, such as Dragoneye, are relatively new.

2025.01.23 20:56 acer009 Forbearers legacy (part 3)
Part 1 Part 2
Reeves and his team gathered around the glowing console. The shifting equations and alien star charts displayed complexity that rivaled anything humanity had ever encountered. The symbols twisted and turned, defying conventional logic.
Lieutenant Kovacs stepped forward, her scanner in hand. "This isn't just mathematics," she murmured. "It’s a hybrid of physics, spatial mechanics, and... something else. It’s almost like it’s alive."
Reeves glanced at her, then at the rest of the team. "Kovacs, you’re up. Everyone else, secure the area. No distractions."
Kovacs nodded, her fingers dancing across the holographic controls. As she manipulated the console, the equations began to stabilize. "These star charts..." she muttered. "They don’t match anything in our records. It’s like this ship maps stars that don’t exist in our galaxy."
Reeves frowned. "Could this be a map to their homeworld?"
"Possibly," Kovacs replied, her voice tinged with awe. "Or something much bigger."
Suddenly, the room dimmed, and the holographic panels morphed into a glowing sphere. The orb projected a three-dimensional map, marking the Earth with a faint blue dot. Surrounding it were dozens of other points, each representing a seeded world. Their connections formed an intricate web, with the Forbearer vessel at its center.
"Look at that," muttered Private Lin, one of the team’s engineers. "This isn’t just a ship—it’s a hub. A relay station for their network."
The holographic voice returned, calm and unwavering. "The first trial is complete. You have demonstrated intellectual collaboration and curiosity. Proceed to the next chamber."
Reeves exhaled. "All right, team. Let’s move. Stay alert."
The next corridor was more expansive, the walls adorned with shifting holographic images of various species. Some were humanoid, others utterly alien. Each appeared to be engaged in acts of creation—building, crafting, teaching.
Kovacs paused, studying one of the images. "These must be records of other seeded species. Their progress, their cultures..."
Reeves gestured for her to keep moving. "Fascinating, but let’s not lose focus."
The corridor opened into a vast, circular chamber. At its center stood a pedestal, atop which rested a glowing cube. Surrounding it were eight metallic pillars, each inscribed with alien symbols. As the team entered, the pillars came to life, projecting beams of light that intersected above the cube.
The voice returned. "The second trial: Moral alignment. This task will test your unity and willingness to make difficult choices. Approach the pedestal."
Reeves approached cautiously, motioning for the team to spread out. The cube emitted a low hum as he neared. Suddenly, the chamber darkened, and the projections from the pillars coalesced into a single holographic figure—a faceless being made of shifting light.
"The Forbearers valued unity and sacrifice," the figure intoned. "This trial will present a choice. Only one may touch the cube. The one who does will gain knowledge but at great personal risk. Decide among yourselves who it shall be."
The team exchanged uneasy glances. Private Lin spoke first. "Lieutenant, I—"
"No," Reeves interrupted firmly. "This isn’t a volunteer mission. We’ll discuss this as a team."
Kovacs frowned. "Reeves, if the cube imparts knowledge, shouldn’t it be someone who can understand it? I’m the team’s scientist. It should be me."
Reeves shook his head. "If it’s dangerous, we can’t afford to lose you. You’re critical to this mission."
The debate continued, tension mounting. Finally, Reeves raised his hand. "Enough. As the team leader, this is my call. I’ll take the risk."
Before anyone could protest, he stepped forward, his hand hovering over the cube. The moment his fingers made contact, the chamber was flooded with light. Images and sounds surged through Reeves’ mind—a torrent of alien knowledge, fragments of the Forbearers' history, their technology, their downfall.
Then came the pain. A searing, all-encompassing agony that brought him to his knees. His team rushed forward, but an invisible barrier held them back.
"Reeves!" Kovacs shouted, pounding against the barrier. "What’s happening to him?"
The holographic figure spoke again. "He is receiving the legacy. His survival depends on his strength of will."
Reeves clenched his teeth, focusing on the fragments of knowledge amidst the pain. Slowly, the torrent subsided, and the light faded. The barrier dissipated, and the team hurried to his side.
"Lieutenant," Kovacs said, scanning him with her device. "Are you okay?"
Reeves nodded weakly. "I’m fine. Just... a lot to process."
The holographic figure vanished, and the cube dimmed. The voice returned. "You have demonstrated unity and selflessness. Proceed to the final trial."
Reeves staggered to his feet, supported by his team. "Let’s finish this," he said, his voice resolute. "We’ve come too far to turn back now."
The team moved deeper into the ship, their determination unwavering. Whatever awaited them in the final trial, they were ready to face it—together.
The final trial loomed ahead, each step taking Reeves and his team closer to the heart of the Forbearer vessel. The corridors now pulsed with faint golden light as if the ship was responding to their progress.
They entered a massive chamber far larger than they had ever encountered. The walls shimmered like liquid gold, shifting and flowing in mesmerizing patterns. In the center was a raised platform, and atop it stood a single device—a cylindrical construct encased in a transparent shell filled with swirling blue energy. Surrounding it were four pedestals, each glowing faintly with a different symbol.
The ship's voice spoke again, its tone heavier and more deliberate. “The final trial: Purpose. This test will determine your species’ true intentions and the path you seek for the knowledge of the Forbearers.”
Reeves exchanged glances with Kovacs and the others. “Define ‘purpose,’” he said cautiously.
The voice responded, “Your actions will decide. The device before you contains an artifact of immense power. It has the potential to elevate your species, to create or to destroy. Each pedestal represents a choice: knowledge, protection, conquest, or abandonment. Approach as a team and choose your path.”
The team hesitated, the gravity of the decision sinking in. Kovacs stepped forward, studying the symbols on the pedestals. “Knowledge, protection, conquest, abandonment... This is more than just a test of our intentions—it’s a test of our integrity.”
Private Lin frowned. “Abandonment? Why would they offer that as an option?”
Kovacs shrugged. “It could be a way to leave the Forbearer legacy entirely. Maybe they’re testing if we can resist the temptation.”
Reeves crossed his arms, his mind racing. “Conquest is out. That’s not what we’re here for. But the other three...”
Kovacs pointed to the pedestal labeled “knowledge.” “This could unlock everything about the Forbearers—who they were, what they knew, their technology. It’s the ultimate goal of our mission.”
“But at what cost?” Reeves countered. “Knowledge can be dangerous. We don’t know how it could affect us—or the rest of humanity.”
Lin nodded. “Protection seems safer. Maybe it means we’d gain something that helps defend our species without risking too much.”
“And abandonment?” Kovacs asked. “Could we walk away after coming this far?”
The team fell into a tense silence, the weight of the decision pressing down on them. Finally, Reeves stepped toward the platform. “We came here to find answers, to better humanity. But we need to tread carefully. I think our choice should reflect that.”
He placed a hand on the “protection” pedestal. The room began to glow brighter, the golden walls rippling with energy. The ship’s voice returned, softer this time. “You have chosen a path of guardianship, seeking not power for its own sake but the safety of your kind. This choice aligns with the Forbearers’ principles. The artifact shall be entrusted to you.”
The cylindrical device opened, and the swirling blue energy condensed into a small, crystalline sphere. Reeves carefully took it, feeling a faint warmth radiating from it.
“This artifact contains the means to fortify your species against external and internal threats,” the voice continued. “Guard it well, and use it wisely.”
As the chamber began to dim, the voice spoke one last time. “Your trials are complete. You may now leave with our blessing.”
Reeves looked at his team, a mixture of relief and triumph in their expressions. “Let’s head back. We’ve got what we came for—and a lot to think about.”
They retraced their steps through the ship, its corridors now brighter and more welcoming. When they reached their shuttle, Reeves returned for one final look at the Forbearer vessel. “Thank you,” he murmured under his breath.
As the shuttle detached and returned to the Stalwart, the Forbearer ship faded from view, its presence still and silent again. But its legacy and the choices it inspired would shape humanity’s future in ways no one could imagine.
