I was SAVE and paying $113 a month. I am also under PSLF. I am hearing Trump is going to dismantle SAVE and even of the other programs remain it will make payments triple. I can't handle that. I am recovering from cancer and have medical debt. I am so scared I won't be able to pay my loans.

Then gives me a “you got 100%!” at the end. Afterwards, I went online and found that I did not in fact get 100%. I KNOW I didn’t get 6 or 7 correct, and likely didn’t get 8-10 either. I wouldn’t say I’m in a well-off family, I don’t take a helicopter everywhere just for the lolz or something like that, but I’m also not dirt poor. My family is fairly middle class, I think. If it came to it, they could cover me while still living comfortably. They, however, insist that they can only help with some of it, albeit they haven’t said how much. In a nutshell, my financial issue isn’t that my parents can’t cover the costs, it’s that they won’t. Can I still get the loans, or is the DOE going to hang me out to dry, too?

I’ve been working for one of the largest energy companies in the world for the past 8 years. My background is in mechanical and petroleum engineering, and I spent 2.5 years working on production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico on 21 day rotations, often as the sole woman representing my company in a predominantly male environment. This experience strengthened my resilience, refined my work ethic, and helped me develop the ability to navigate challenging situations while working with people from diverse backgrounds...for those of you asking if I can survive IB.
Here’s where I’m at:
- My salary has been holding steady between $140K–$155K, with variations in bonus.
- Last year, I applied to over 250 jobs with little success. The roles I’ve come across offer between $140K–$180K, which feels insufficient to build wealth after 40% taxes and the high cost of living in NYC.
- I’ve been speaking to mentors and am considering transitioning into energy investment banking, potentially by pursuing an EXECUTIVE MBA at a top 10 school( ideally MIT Sloan, Wharton, Columbia).
