How did you plan your study schedule? How long did it take bago makapagipon para sa lahat ng gastos for the PLAB/AMC journey? How long was it before you got into a secure job abroad? 2025.01.24 03:01 Kitchen-Arm7300 [CA] Why does HR tend to antagonize issues to the point of lawsuits?
Fair warning: this post includes explicit references to sexual harassment, so to be safe, I marked as NSFW.
I get that HR exists to act on behalf of the company's interest; not in employees' best interest. However, my personal experiences paint a picture where HR exists only to sow chaos, even to the detriment of the company. I get the sense that HR representatives are yearning to be deposed in lawsuits.
In one of my experiences, I had a paycheck that was short by several hundred dollars. No big deal; probably just a mistake, right? Well this kicked off a denial campaign where I was expected to produce irrefutable mathematical proof, on my own time, and then share them with payroll, HR, and my supervisors. I complied and generated very detailed accounting of my hours and daily reports over several months, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they owed me money. Instead of paying me forthwith, they spent several months "validating" my claim. Not only were they trying to wait out the clock, hoping I would miss the legal window to file a labor complaint, but they started a campaign of retaliation. I had benefits withheld. I was singled out and denied important safety accommodations. I was verbally accosted by an "employee relations" representative for making a mountain out of a mole-hill. Ultimately, I was terminated. Fine, I was happy to go, but they gave me a severance form that entitled me to most of what they owed me at that point, which was ten-fold more than what they originally owed. HR literally told me to sue them if I felt I was owed more than the severance payment. The issue exploded for a several hundred dollar discrepancy into a multi-million dollar class action settlement. (Naturally, I only received a tiny fraction of the settled amount).
The next company I worked for was even worse. Basically, I had a subordinate who was badly misbehaving and not performing any of his duties. I had no recourse to manage this employee as my manager constantly undermined my authority. He (my manager) was also extremely disrespectful, yelling at me in front of my subordinates and within earshot of the entire office. I tried to report all offenses to HR. But whenever I tried to schedule a meeting with our HR person (just one person for a smaller company) she would postpone or not show up. When I called her out for missing these meetings, she would fabricate evidence to show that we had met. From there, I attempted to only meet with her when higher-ups could also attend. It was important that we had these meetings so that I could report my subordinate for a myriad of issues, including a request for oral sex from one of my other subordinates. When I finally got a chance to report the sexual harassment, HR dismissed it as a one-off. The executive I told at least seemed to take the accusation seriously. I turned over the physical proof of harassment, but nothing came of it. HR was "investigating" the incident. Things escalated when he started sexually harassing me as well. I forwarded to HR the fleshy photo that my subordinate sent to my work email. Unfortunately, the HR lady encouraged me to drop it. I insisted that she add this new evidence to her ongoing investigation of the previous harassment. And then she asked, "What investigation? What other incident?" As you might have guessed, this again ended with me being terminated and the filing of another lawsuit, which is still ongoing.
Even after all that, I chose not to file a third lawsuit against the next company I worked for when the pay discrepancies started happening again. I basically read labor code word for word, out loud, to the owner, HR, and payroll, and still, they tried to argue that I was "both a salary employee and an hourly employee." I simply didn't have the fortitude to file another lawsuit at that point, so I quit.
The craziest thing of all is that these three examples aren't even the worst of my experiences with HR over my career. I have multiple horror stories that didn't become lawsuits only because I was younger and more naive about my rights as a worker. On top of those, there were HR departments for other companies and entities that I never ended up working for who would cite in writing illegal discrimination or unfair hiring practices as reasons for not hiring me.
So, why do so many HR departments and HR "professionals" try to escalate issues to the point where lawyers need to get involved? Is it a pride thing? What's wrong with trying to resolve things amicably? Is it that they know most employees don't have the follow through to file lawsuits and we can just be beaten into submission? Am I just incredibly unlucky with my experiences or am I in the wrong for being so well prepared to defend my reports? What's up?

2025.01.24 03:01 knotsciencemajor New Home Built Tight - Super Low Humidity
Hi all, not sure if this is the right place for this but I’m trying to solve a mystery. I built (and by I, I mean mostly my contractor) a fairly small house (640sq ft) with closed cell foam walls and ceiling so it’s pretty darn tight. I’m working through some air quality issues with an ERV I’ve installed that isn’t really working. But while I’m sure that’s related, I’m not sure it’s the cause or solution.
My heating is radiant hydronic and cooling is a mini split. Both of those work well.
My issue is 25% or lower humidity. I don’t think I need to explain the negative health consequences of humidity that low but one of them rhymes with constellation.
It’s just me who lives here, I work from home, I don’t shower, cook or do dishes that often so maybe not a lot of moisture being added. I made a point to eliminate any protrusions in the ceiling to avoid any rotting issues since it’s a vaulted, unvented “cold roof”.
Turns out too much moisture is hardly a problem.
I got a humidifier and have been running it daily for a few weeks now but struggle to get humidity above 40%. As soon as I stop running the humidifier, it drops down to 25% or lower. I must have dumped 12-15 gallons into the humidifier by now.
My question is - where is the moisture going? Could it take months for all the walls, furniture, concrete floor, etc. to soak up all that moisture?
One unique thing about this house is that it’s “floating” 10 feet in the air. It’s on a river so we built it up to stay out of any flooding. So there’s no crawlspace, slab or traditional foundation. Not sure if thats a contributing factor.
