I’ve recently applied to two UofT campuses for the same Life Sciences program, and I am aware that UofT is a high ranked school academically. I am trying my hardest to get in.
However, I keep seeing many people imply that at UofT many students have a “bad social life”. I’m not particularly one to buy into what many people generalize a school as one narrative, but I was wondering if this is actually true or not? I keep hearing stories about people that don’t like UofT because of its lack of social interaction.
I am interested in working extremely hard in university, but I want to make friends along the way as well. Is that possible at UofT?
I also applied to Waterloo and McMaster life sciences programs. How may those programs and the social life potential of Waterloo and McMaster contrast with UofT?

I had gestational diabetes with all of my pregnancies so my doctor had me continue wearing a CGM. I’m 6 months postpartum and my numbers still get really high. My doctor ordered blood tests and isn’t concerned because my fasting was 84 (it’s usually in the 80s) and a1c was 5.3.
My CGM shows my average blood sugar is usually around 100. My doctor says all this looks great and I shouldn’t be worried. But lots of things still spike me to 150-200 that I don’t think would for normal people. I had grilled chicken and a small side of roasted potatoes and went up to 200. If I even sniff brown rice or whole wheat anything I’ll go up to 180. Even just eating a protein with vegetables I usually will be at 130/140s.
I think this looks like I will develop prediabetes, even though other signs look fine. I exercise regularly and am very lean. I can’t afford to keep getting CGMs but have been monitoring long enough to see that food still spikes me. What do you think?

I am traveling to Italy on the 4th of February ( in two weeks) I only booked the flights i will land in Rome and the flight to my home country will take off from milan.
I am staying for full 7 days, I was thinking to explore rome , Florence and Milan.
I wanted to ask if you would recommend airbnb or hotels for these cities? And also what is the best area for accommodation in rome? And did anyone rented a car in Rome? If yes how was the experience? Is it good or trains are better? This is my first time in europe so I don’t know if a car would make things better or worse.

Why does anything exist at all? Everything we see in the world relies on something else to exist. This dependence points to the existence of something fundamental—something that doesn’t rely on anything else. This "necessary cause" must exist outside the physical universe we live in.
- Contingent vs. Necessary Things Everything that exists can be grouped into two categories:

After receiving the CTC, it was discovered that the broker had overlooked the closing date, admitting this in writing, and now we will need to extend our rate for 2+ weeks.
In a counter offer the seller negotiated a longer closing and this was missed by the broker. We were told by the broker that the extension fee would be similar to if we locked in the original rate for 45 days anyways so this a not a big deal. Is this the truth? We have not been told how much this fee will be, but it appears that it is being pushed on to us. Currently we have a 6.75% VA loan with a 7% APR and we are considering floating the rate because of this mistake depending on the cost of the fee. Any advice?

2025.01.24 23:10 FunMarzipan2202 PROPOSED RATING REDUCTION
I'm going to try to make this as short as possible.
I've been out 20 years. I had 9 STRs for my knees. The VA conceded after an x-ray that I had my right ACL replaced in and around 2003. Three years post service. (I did not have an out processing physical, I did not have taps, I was never told about the VA And it clearly shows on my DD form 214)
I found out about the health it benefits in 2017. Immediately granted.
2022 I found out about benefits. I started my intent to file. The VA had documented multiple complaints of my knees while I was seeing the VA.
April of 2023 I had a CNP for my knees. The same day of that CNP I knew something was wrong with the VES provider. Researched and found they had lost their medical license due to malpractice lawsuits. However VES continued using that person.
I filed a complaint with the VA and VES the day after by CNP exam. I had no idea what the examiner was going to recommend therefore it was a honest complaint.
Ultimately the VA agreed I needed another CNP.
March of 2024 I was giving another CNP exam. I had to pursue the second exam ridiculously hard. It was a nurse practitioner. She had access to my records and looked at my right knee and said I had never had an ACL replaced, there was no scar. VA x-rays clearly show the ACL replaced. Since It had been so long I was unable to get the actual records, the law allows doctors and surgeons to dispose of the records in 7 years post surgery. The only thing that they had was that I had my knee surgery in 2003. No other documentation.
The day after the second CNP I called and wrote a letter complaining about this CNP examiner nurse practitioner failing to look at all the evidence. Specifically she wrote in her DBQ that I had never had my ACL replaced.
About the same time frame I had been seeing an orthopedic surgeon. The orthopedic surgeon reviewed my C file and my STRs. April 1st 2024 he wrote me an astoundingly perfect Nexus letter. I uploaded and submitted the Nexus letter.
Late April, I received the denial. The denial listed no evidence and that it was the CNP examiners opinion it was not related to service because I claim to have my "ACL replaced in 2003 but there was no scar on my knee they said least likely is not". Keep in mind in 2017 and multiple other occasions the VA x-rayed my knee where it clearly shows my ACL was replaced.
Then after the April 2024 Nexus letter, I was sent to another CNP. This was after they had my orthopedic surgeon's Nexus letter that was properly worded. He was my personal orthopedic surgeon.
I had 9 STR's records where I went to the doctor for both of my knees complaining about the injuries I had. For the old school guys I was given Motrin 800 mg each time.
I had also been involved in two vehicle accidents and was a military working dog handler.
I filed a higher level review.
July 2024 I started receiving payments After a higher level review, but the claim was never closed and no back pay.
I must have called 12 times wanting to know why and was there something wrong.
September of 2024 I received a notice to sever by knee condition based upon a CUE.
They claim the error was they had two CNP exams saying that my knees were not related to service, please be reminded the first person lost their license to practice medicine and the other failed to review the evidence.
My orthopedic surgeon letter was very detailed noted all of my STRs, used the correct verbiage as more likely than not and so on.
I responded to the proposal the following day That I received it.
After 45 days I was still receiving pay but I was not given a hearing date. I called and they stated that I had never uploaded my request for a hearing.
I keep records of everything, screenshots etc. I sent evidence of my upload that was from April of 2023.
Frustrated, I hired an attorney. I literally interviewed 30 attorneys.
November of 2024 I finally hired an attorney. He reviewed everything and stated that this was not a CUE, it was a miss application of the law. He told me it appeared whoever called to CUE did not like the way it was developed. The orthopedic surgeon was a strong Nexus letter and that the other should not have been used because of loss of license and the inadequate CNP by the nurse practitioner. In addition since they sent me to a third CNP, it is clear that they were developing to deny.
Finally this month, February 2025, a due process claim was opened. The VA acknowledged that they had made a mistake and missed my request for hearing, along with other errors. Yet the CUE remained.
Thoughts on an ER physician who lost their license to practice medicine and a PA who failed to look at evidence versus a 30-year orthopedic surgeon who took over a month to review my records and have been treating me?
Just looking for any input. I'll tell you the attorney is top-notch, he was active duty army and is in the reserves as a JAG.

2025.01.24 23:10 ZachVorhies Is there REALLY no way to use mount inside an unprivileged Docker container?
I've burned 20 hours trying to get mount to work inside of a docker container. I am absolutely surprised that there is no way to mount a file system inside of docker, without extra privileges. The issue is that DigitalOcean and Render.com don't grant these privileges. And apparently, the only way to do this is through FUSE. I would have thought there would be some other method to mount a virtual file system. There doesn't seem to me, that there are any security issues, but apparently there is.
Why is this?
