Unfortunately due to my prior drug use (just passed 2 years of sobriety from heroin) I lost custody of my 2 kids (because of my home situation and how long it’s gone on I’ll unfortunately not regain custody of my son but hopefully I can find a better home situation and at least regain custody of my daughter). I just had my daughter in the end of December. I just received her social security card and had her birth certificate sent to my P.O. Box. So what my question is: If you fill out a birth certificate form and you write it for one address can CYS “intercept” the birth certificate’s destination?
Really sorry for how long and personal this is, finally able to accept my “mess ups/screw ups and want to eventually be one of those people who can share their story and potentially save someone else’s..

2025.01.24 23:42 Holiday_Meaning_2621 Switching Masters Supervisor - seeking advice/experiences
Hello! I'm a Master's student in the US and am just starting my second semester. The professional relationship between my supervisor and I has completely broken down. They are often demeaning, demanding, and disorganized, and communication was a massive struggle last semester. I have tried to improve our communication to no avail as my supervisor often becomes avoidant and non-responsive as well. My supervisor is known for this behaviour (though I wasn't aware of this before I joined their lab), so I am quite sure it isn't just me. I won't be too specific about my experiences but everyone I've shared them with has found it quite shocking, including other Master's and PhDs at my college. I've honestly thought about dropping out entirely but losing a whole (awful) year doesn't seem like a good idea either. So I have come seeking advice.
I have three main questions:
- I've seen so many differing opinions on which steps to follow. I've seen that you definitely should not inform your current supervisor until you have a spot, but then how do you inquire about open spots?? Do I speak to the graduate studies coordinator, my supervisor, other professors first? I have already made an appointment with my coordinator but I'm not sure if I should state my intention of switching or just seek general advice for now.
- If I need to speak to other professors, how do I express interest in their lab and ask if they have open spots while also still keeping it a bit quiet? Is there even a way to do this?
- When is the best time/is it too late? From what I've heard from other grad students, most focused on courses first year and then research after. Does it make sense to pursue this now or wait until summer?
I've been researching and seen posts of people whose supervisors gave bad references or otherwise talked badly about them even when they stayed and finished. I am very afraid of retaliation and this Master's potentially ruining my future in academia. But retaliation seems like a huge risk no matter what I do (just try to bear it, try to switch labs, drop out entirely, etc.) just because of what I'm dealing with. If anyone can answer my questions or offer some advice, I would be thankful.

You may not have heard from us as we are not now in charge, and we are still in a quandary about the marginalized in our society who moved a bit to the right. (Search Indian Americans regretting their delusion of inclusion on the right)

Apologies in advance for the barebones. This one's as frustrating for me as it is for you...
Platform(s): PC
Genre: Educational. It had English/reading, maybe had math and more. I think it was more for kids, but it wasn't really overly appealing to kids--few to no cartoonish characters that I remember, just to business.
Estimated year of release: Early 2000s or before
Graphics/art style: I don't remember a lot of colorful animation or bubbliness. Just a simple interface of darker cool colors like blue on a light/white background. I think the program icon was blue or purplish and featured the letter "M." If it did have graphics or animations, they'd have been relatively simple, like maybe icons of stars or something.
Notable characters: N/A
Notable gameplay mechanics: I think it was just the player in this educational zone where you clicked on categories and did some of the activities inside. I definitely remember readings. There were levels/stages, but don't believe they were organized in a "fun" way; maybe like grade levels.
Other details: Because I only remember the letter M, I keep thinking the word "Master" was somewhere in the title, but I can't guarantee that. It had a sort of formal sounding title, though, like "master" something or "alpha" something. I don't think the title was multiple words, or, if it was, it didn't have "math" or "spelling" in there like many of its fellows in the genre do.
Understandable if no one can track it down just from this haze. I appreciate your time regardless!
