Framing negotiations in life as contained one-shot decisions made in the dark with no communication or trust, between "rational" (nihilistic) criminal agents?
It seems to me this never eventuates in real life, every pair of negotiators has some sort of history and/or future together, there are external factors, and there is often communication as well as common ("irrational"/non-nihilistic) values that can be appealed to.
It seems to me that selling the idea of the Prisoner's Dilemma as the first port of call for almost any application of Game Theory to real life seems, not only mismatched but dangerous and corrosive to social cohesion.
Thoughts?

Title sounds bad, I know. Let me explain
Basically, my girlfriend and I bought a cat. It’s a 9-month-old Siamese. Her older brother (who was a dog person) moved out of the house, leaving the basement for us and our new cat.
The cat was formerly abused. I don’t want to go into detail, but she came from a pretty terrible home, and she’s extremely shy, quiet and introverted as a result.
There’s a pretty large bathroom in the basement, and we decided that would be the kitty’s enclosed room once she first comes home. We split responsibilities as follows — I buy the cat, and shop for all the food/supplies; and she gets the room (and the rest of the basement) clean and ready.
Long story short… in the bathroom, behind the bathtub, there’s an external showerhead standing on a wooden box that’s against the wall. It is absolutely caked with dust, dirt, and dog hair from when my girlfriend’s brother lived there. I guess she missed it and didn’t clean it since it’s out of view. I don’t blame her, but yeah.
We didn’t find this out until a few hours after the cat came home.
As planned, we set her kennel down, opened it, and then left her alone so she could explore the room and grow comfortable with her new environment. And then a few hours later, we check on her… and she’s behind the bathtub. Right next to that extremely dirty/dusty wooden box.
She’s been there for hours now. I know that the obvious answer might be to just move the bathtub and clean that area, but that would obstruct her hiding spot. And given her personality/history (and the fact that her previous owner told us she’d often hide), she seems to really value her hiding spots. It’s also the first place she went when she finally built up the courage to leave her kennel and explore. Her first hiding spot feels like a big milestone, and like a stepping stone in her journey to adapting to her new environment. I just don’t wanna ruin it for her.
What do you guys think? Should I leave her be, and hope she doesn’t inhale the dust/dirt? Or what should I do?

I am ramping up on 0.025% tretinoin cream and would love some advice for combo skin!
I started tret in October for anti aging and hyperpigmentation. I have been using the sandwich method since my skin is sensitive and dried out as I adjust, especially on my cheeks. I’ve been able to ramp up to 3x/ week patiently.
In order to add more nights, I’ve been trying to stay on top of my skin barrier. I’ve been slugging on non-tret nights. My issue is I’ve been breaking out in my t zone for the first time since I started. My pores also seem clogged.
Could this be part of purging? If not, I am wondering if my heavy moisturizers could be causing it? But if I don’t use them, my skin gets dry and peely.
Full routine - AM: - tatcha rice wash - drunk elephant b-hydra serum - alastin a-luminate (for melasma) - cerave pm moisturizer (I love the light texture) - Elta md clear spf
PM - cerave gel cleanser - drunk elephant b-hydra serum - alastin a-luminate - cerave pm moisturizer - after 10 min, tret 0.025% - after another 10 min, cerave pm moisturizer
Non tret nights: - Tatcha dewy skin (or Tatcha indigo repair cream if super dry) as the pm moisturizer - light application of aquaphor on dry areas to seal in moisture if needed
I’m wanting to see improvement, and also just move on from the tret adjustment so I can get into more actives. Ex - I’ve taken a break from vitamin C due to starting tret but I want to work that back in. Or the BHA/AHA serum my Derm recommended.
Any advice? Is 3x a week enough? Should I lighten the moisturizer to help with clogged pores / breakouts, but deal with dryness? Give up entirely on tret and go for a retinal? I’m lost!

Hi everyone,
So I have no idea what I want to do (not even a general area of interest) granted I'm a junior in HS so I do have time but with the college conversation picking up I would like to ask this question: Is community college the best option for me? I'm an international student and I really like the flexibility of the US college system since you have the undecided option and it will be cheaper for my family. Or should I just apply to a university and go undecided there? I'm honestly not even sure if I want to go to college lol I guess it's just the standard thing people seem to do once they graduate HS lol. Also idk what else to do? I guess I could get a job but it won't be that good pay-wise I think. Also, my parents want me to go. We haven't really talked about it much it's just always just been a quiet assumption. So yeah I do feel like it'll be good for me to go. My parents want me to go to Europe (specifically Amsterdam) cuz I have a European passport + it's cheaper but I'll have to pick my major right away there and changing is VERY difficult. Please help I don't want to end up doing something I hate for the rest of my life 😭.

2025.01.25 00:30 Mrgray123 I'm getting a bit tired of these pictures people are posting showing their relatives serving in World War Two to kick Nazi butt.
Now I can't speak for any particular individual but we shouldn't forget that these people served in a segregated military, in service of a nation which denied civil rights to a good 10% of the population and which had just imprisoned 120,000 Japanese-American citizens. Where a lot of states had laws which were barely indistinguishable from the Nuremberg Laws passed in the 1930s and that's not even getting into what had been done to Native Americans.
They then came home to a nation in which decorated African-Americans who had served in the war (and later in Korea) were beaten by police, denied opportunities in education, housing, and employment, and straight up murdered them. And I'm not just talking about the southern states. The vast majority of these people weren't on the front lines of reform and the civil rights movement. They happily accepted the status quo, signing those restrictive covenants in the new suburbs which assured them that no undesirables would be able to purchase homes there.
People act like some 250 year noble experiment in Democracy is coming to an end. I'd suggest that, in the sense that every citizen has had a reasonable opportunity to vote and take part in politics in other ways we have had, at best, about a 50 year run and that's ignoring blatant gerrymandering and voter suppression. The consequences of that history on people's ability to have a fair shot at achieving sustained economic prosperity for themselves and their families are all to obvious. Admitting that truth might just make slightly more explicable the current situation that we are in.
