2025.01.30 15:00 Little_Ad6342 I might get "demoted" - should I leave? Where do I go?
My manager didn't call it a demotion, but a "re-banding." My title & salary would supposedly remain unchanged, but I would be moved to a lower band which would 1) lower the top end of my salary potential, 2) make me no longer bonus eligible, and 3) (his reasoning) allow me to be fairly evaluated with more of my peers.
Some background: I was hired into this manager-level role 2 years ago. I have ~3-4 years of post-undergrad work experience and a Master's degree, but 0 experience in my current industry. Some of my grad school projects aligned to some of the work this role entails, but I do not have the work experience. This role has been a challenge since the day I started. Not only having to learn an entirely new industry (which is something I'm used to as my previous 2 roles were completely different from one another), but it also comes with extremely high expectations given our stakeholders (C-Suite execs and board members).
I found out in my first performance review a year ago that I am being measured against other managers of my band level who apparently have 5-10 years of experience. Totally fair right? /s So of course, I'm not measuring up and here we are 2 years later and I'm still not able to perform at the level of independence my manager is expecting of me, even though I'd argue I'm doing a heck of a lot better than when I first started. He's stated that this isn't his way of pushing me off the team (though sometimes, it does feel like he makes personal jabs at me, but that's a different story), but rather a way to fairly evaluate my performance against others of similar experience level. I'm basically in a "probational" period this Q1 to see if I am able to work more independently at my current band level or if I will be re-banded.
I've toyed with the idea of leaving for months now even before this proposal. I love the line of work and thinking, but given the feedback I've constantly received in this role, I question if I need to find something else entirely or if it's the team/management dynamic that doesn't fit me.
Anyway - question is in the title. If once Q1 wraps up and he still thinks I need to re-band, can I fight it? Is his decision the final one? Should I start looking elsewhere for a similar type of role with a different company or am I just bad at it? If I do look elsewhere for a similar role, I'd want to start off at a lower level. Does that look bad to companies (like I'm an underachiever)?

I use an app called exodus and usually getting access to my crypto through there. Question is, besides holding, could i make a profit from buying and selling when the market is volatile? Meaning changing btc to usdt on days of like 5% up and buying from usdt to btc when it's 5% down? (Disregard the numbers themselves if it's impractical or something, could be 10% or 20% or 3% etc). Does it make sense doing something like that? Or commissions would eat away my wallet? Besides even if it works it means I'll be left with less Satoshis every time.. I'd be happy for some advice.

Bought a property in VIC two months ago, bathroom was flagged by building inspector for having moisture under tiles, It's likely badly sealed or broken membrane I expect.
We have the warranty from the previous owners which is still good for 2 years or so.
Is this worth the paper its written on?
What's the process here?
Call the waterproofer and ask them to fix something they did a shit job on 5 years ago? Call VCAT if he gives me the runaround?
Or forget it and move on / fix myself / recontract to someone good etc?
Is anyone ever successful with this type of stuff? Everyone is telling me to just forget about it, but I'm flummoxed by why a warranty might exist if it means jack shit legally.

To the future med students
I used to be the guy who swallowed the ' your medical school doesn't matter ' pill but as your progress into medicine, it really does matter.
If you are applying to and want to go to a top med school ( Imperial, Oxford, Cambridge, UCL ) then these 4 dont matter. You are in the upper quartile of target schools and there is no/little differentiation between an Oxford student and imperial. So in a situation where med school matters i.e. private practise or hard specialities, you are in the best position.
It's not all about those factors. Sorry to break your boat, but you probably wont become a neurosurgeon if you dont go to a top med school. These specialities are extremely competitive and considering you went to the worse school you are disadvantaged due to : academics, the uni itself and portfolio building connections. There is a reason why cohorts in the worse med school have greater proportion going into GP rather than heart surgery.
If you go to a non top medical school, out of the top 6 for example you will be disadvantaged. Firstly, prestige plays an important route if you want to supplement your medicine career by going to America or private precise. They will side for someone who goes to a top uni despite your portfolio being similar in regard. Top medical students go to top university's; its a fact You have better academics and grades, you get into and aspire to better unis.If you go to a less target med school, you probably have worse A levels, GCSE and hence why you got in and applied to the med school in that first place. The medical school provides so so much helpful connections, opportunities and chances to build your career. Im not saying you cant do this at a non-top uni but it is harder and less available, and considering other factors you will still be disadvantaged
Tl:dr: Those who think a medical degree from University of Central Lancashire is the same as one from Oxford or Cambridge are frankly delusional.
Yes, both will get you access to the Foundation Programme but differentiate between the specialty destinations of the two, the pass rates of Royal College exams, the private practice income and you will soon realise they are very much not equivalent.

2025.01.30 15:00 Mother_Construction2 UPS, Proxmox, Synology NAS. How to connect?
I have a Cyberpower UPS with no snmp card installed. USB only.
I want my Proxmox server and Synology NAS shutdown gracefully if no AC power.
My initial plan was to connect my UPS to my Rasp Pi and have that Pi installed a SNMP server, but later found out that I can’t figure out how to setup the server (the IDs are really annoying and I still can’t figure out) plus importing the MIB. I’ve googled and ChatGPT’d but still ending up with so many errors.
Then I found out that there’s a “Enable network UPS server” under the UPS tab of the settings of the Synology NAS, so I was assuming that I can connect my UPS to Synology via a USB then share the information to Proxmox using my NAS. But it seemed not to work this way. I’ve asked the Synology customer service what that is and they’ve created a ticket for me so I’ll have to wait for the answer.
The whole point of using SNMP instead of just NUT is because Synology doesn’t supports it without having to modifying files using ssh let alone the file structure under ups directory is far different than the tutorials I can find which are from 4 to 8 years ago.
So, what’s the best way of doing this without buying the expensive SNMP expansion card for the UPS?

 | Europe in 1950 This is Europe in a alternate timeline. A timeline without a 2th Great War and with a more successful League of Nations. A timeline with a much weaker UK after 1920. The point of divergence starts during the American Revolutionary War. Spain manages to capture Gibraltar with the help of France and at the Treaty of Paris (1783) it gets permanently transferred to Spain together with Menorca. During the Napoleonic Wars France doesn’t treat the states of Spain, Batavian Republic and the Italian Republic as puppets but as full-fledged allies. This results in less of his family members on foreign thrones and more autonomy for these states. Together with Spain Napoleon manages to push Portugal out of the war, ending the Peninsular Campaign. At the battle of Leipzig Napoleon miraculously manages to win despite being massively outnumbered. This gives him some breathing space, but after a while he does get pushed back to the west. Then several generals and members of his government force Napoleon to sign a peace treaty as he is met with lots of internal unrest. France’s war weariness reaches a boiling point, but the coalition members are also too weakened to enforce an occupation of France. The following treaty stipulates that Napoleon is to step down as a Emperor but he is allowed to remain the ‘Grand Marshal of France’ although this was mostly a symbolic function as he spends the rest of his days on the countryside where he dies in 1824. Most of the conquests are reversed but Wallonia, Luxembourg, Rhomandie and Savoy remain part of France. Austria regains Lombardy-Venetia but the rest of Italy north of the Papal State unites in a loose federation of kingdoms and duchies. The rest of the treaty is similar to OTL Treaty of Vienna (1815). In the rest of the 19th century events are quite similar to those in OTL. France loses the Franco-Prussian war, which forces them to transfer Luxembourg and Alsace-Lorraine to the newly formed Germany. France helps Italy unite, and they let them colonize Tunesia in exchange for using Bizerte as a military base. During the start of the 20th century tensions are brewing. In 1912 this leads to the First Balkan War. The Ottomans are utterly defeated but soon after tensions rise between Serbia and Bulgaria. Serbia is not happy with the amount of territory they got and it wants to capture Macedonia from Bulgaria. Border skirmishes occur but Russia prevents an all out war between the two having great relations with both Slavic states. They have Bulgaria renouncing it’s claim to Constantinople and promises to help Serbia ‘liberating’ it’s claimed states in the west if any future war with Austria-Hungary may occur. This leaves Serbia dissatisfied but at the moment there is nothing they can do. Albania becomes independent during this period but Greece is allowed to take the coastal part of Northern Epirus. In 1914 Franz Ferdinand is murdered in Sarajevo, this is a direct cause for the outbreak of the Great War. The alliances in the Great War are the same as in OTL but the course is much different. The Netherlands manages to stay neutral so the Western Front takes place in the fields of Lorraine, Wallonia and Champagne. Russia manages to push deep into Anatolia very fast, but on the Eastern Front they are fighting a disastrous campaign. In 1917 Russia falls into a civil war between the Whites and the Soviets and leaves the war. In 1918 the USA joins the war on the side of the Entente, this totally turns the tide of the war from a stalemate to an Entente victory in 1919. The Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires collapse and Germany is defeated. Because the American involvement in the war is larger (and France and the UK being weaker) Wilson’s 14 points get implemented more successful. Allied demands and plebiscites created the following border changes: Northern Schleswig to Denmark. Poland becomes independent and gains Pozen, Warmia (except for Allenstein), Masuria, Southern Silesia and Galicia. Originally Poland was also to be given a corridor to the Baltic Sea, but local border clashes, German militias and Polish inability to intervene in these due to the Polish-Russian war made them sign a treaty with Germany. This treaty prevented the creation of a polish corridor but gave Poland free passage on the Vistula (including military transport), the right to control and guard a railway to the yet to be build port of Gdynia (this port was a polish exclave and to be largely financed by Germany) and the use of the port of Danzig till completion of Gdynia. Germany gained the territory around Karlsbad because of its large German population. Austria lost its empire but gained Burgenland (except for Sopron), got to keep some border regions in Southern Moravia, Sudtirol and OTL northern Slovenia including Marburg. Italy gained Gorizia, Istria, Trento, the Dodecanese and Albania. Greece gained Thrace and the Aegean Islands. The UK gains Cyprus, Palestina and Iraq. France gain Luxembourg, Alsace-Lorraine Libanon and Syriy. The Nadjd Emirate gains the Hejaz and Jordan. Czechoslovakia becomes independent. After the armistice the Balkans and the lands of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire are in chaos. Whilst the Austrians reluctantly accept their fate, Hungary fights on in hope to preserve their country. The Entente wants to enforce their demands to the Balkans and Eastern Europe, but are to weak to concentrate their powers on this area. The OTL members of the Little Entente are also less unified and less strong in this timeline because of conflicting interests and longer occupation. While all Little Entente members fought Hungary Serbia wanted to end this war quick because of other treats looming at their borders. Hungary accepted a border along the Drava and was allowed to keep north western part of Vojvodina. This gave Hungary the ability to focus on Czechoslovakia and Romania. Hungary was teaming up with Poland who wanted Teschen in attacking the Czechs. They easily captured the northern parts of the Danubian plain and Kosice. Then the Czechs brought them to a stop in the Western Carpathians. Czechoslovakia then agreed to a ceasefire because unrest under the Germans was brewing in Sudetenland. After the war this border was ratified. Then Hungary could focus on Romania. Both war weary nations fought each other for 3 years into a stalemate. Where Hungary preformed better in Northern Transylvania, Romania conquered Southern Transylvania and Banat. This war lasted till 1922 when both nations signed a peace treaty. Hungary had lost large swats of lands including Temesvar and Kolozsvar but kept control over large part of the Eastern Carpathians, Szeklerland and Transtisza. Bulgaria was also in a very precarious situation. They had lost the Great War an where surrounded on all parts with enemies. They held of both Serbia and Romania during their war with Hungary and when Serbia is threatened by Italy for Dalmatia they sign a peace treaty in which the current borders were confirmed. The war with Greece leads to Bulgaria losing al of Thrace. The presence of the large combined Entente army in Salonika forced Bulgaria in accepting to hand over these territories. The Russian Civil War started in 1917 after large territorial gains by the Central Powers. Sweden directly took the Aland Islands amidst the chaos stating their motives were to protect the local Swedes. For the same reason Romania took Bessarabia. The Whites fought the Soviets for 3 years after which they became triumphant. During this civil war the Caucasus states, the Baltics and Finland declared independence. Belarus and Ukraine were ‘liberated’ by Germany but unwillingly joined the civil war after Germany’s downfall. Around 1919 The Whites were being attacked by the newly established Polish Republic trying to capture cities with a Polish population in Ukraine and Belarus. When the Whites were starting to prevail in their civil war in 1920 they began trying to reconquer Poland and counter attacked the Poles. The Poles were pushed back but manage to stop the Russians from crossing the Bug and Dniester river. When the Russians were unable to break the polish defences they were forced to sign a ceasefire confirming the borders along the current ceasefire line. In the Caucasus Russia signed a separate peace treaty in 1917 with the Ottoman empire mostly confirming the pre-war borders. When the Russian Empire left most parts of Anatolia, the local Armenians and Greeks mostly retreated with the army to the Caucasus. During the civil war all three Caucasus states declared independence After the civil war their independence was confirmed by Russia with the transfer of the Abkhazia region and Russian oil rights in Baku. Hereafter Armenia and Azerbaijan fought a brief war over Nagorno-Karabach resulting in Armenian control of the region. After the civil war the Russian government turned to an Isolationist foreign policy. Their first priorities were to improve the economy and industrialise the country, restructure the bureaucratic system and assimilate the population to an All-Russian identity. Turkestan was given autonomy with the Russians controlling their foreign policy. Events after the Great War: After the Great War Turkey fought an independence war against the British, Italians, Greeks and French resulting in a Turkish victory. The League of Nations is proclaimed in 1919. Later famed for their ability to solve international disputes diplomatically. Also known for the notorious European Population Transfers Project. The IRA wins the Irish War of Independence (1918-1925) resulting in massive British casualties and a united Irish republic. Russia invades Finland during the ‘Winter War’ in 1941 capturing strategic territories including Finish Karelia and Petsamo. The Albanian Uprising starts in 1943. Greece helps the Italians supressing the uprising. After the uprising Greece buys the Dodecanese while Italy keeps a military base on Rhodos. Multiple great powers are hit with massive independence wars in their colonial holdings (1942-ongoing). Most notably are the Indian War of Independence and the South-East Asian Colonial Conflict. The UK sells Malta and Cyprus to Italy and Greece in 1949 trying to halt their financial crisis. Independence of Egypt, Palestine, Libanon, Syria and Iraq. (1944-1948) Arab-Israeli War (Palestinian Civil War). Palestine fall into civil war after British troops leave the mandate. Syria, Egypt and Saudi Arabia intervene on behalf of the Arabs. Hi all,
as the title reads, I was wondering for GPU owners with the 12V-2x6 connector - is there any way you can check in software (say HWinfo or similar) to validate the power limit set by the 12V-2x6 connectors SENSE0 & SENSE1 pins?
The standard lists 5 power options the PSU could show to the GPU through these pins (0 W, 150 W, 300 W, 450 W, and 600 W) and I was curious if you can verify what the GPU actually reads.
