So, I have studied French off and on for decades and am OK at it. However there is one thing that still eludes me. It's the French 'r' sound. I can do it pretty well when I'm speaking and don't have to emphasize it. But Francophones can make a gargling 'r' that goes on and on—several openings and closings at the uvula in a row (German speakers can do this, too, and I'm also posting this in a German reddit as well). I, for the life of me, cannot do that vibrating uvular r. I try to do it and it just sounds like I'm retching or I'm a cat coughing up a fur ball.
Doe anyone here know of a good youtube video to help with this or other resources including hints about physical exercises for me to learn how to make this sound?
By the way, I have looked at FAQs here. The answer there is more or less that it's impossible to learn, so forget about it. That's not an answer I seek. And I also suspect that some phonologist or accent reduction specialist out there knows how to teach this. I could be wrong, I guess.

January Accountability Thread I used to get the original Kitchen Box but we moved into a house last year without a bath, so ended up giving most of it away. When my husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas I said the Shower Box, and he said yes, as long as I use it and don't just horde it, as I used to do.
I've also been struck about the discussions about buying and not using, so here's my new monthly accountability and review post, as I'm hoping writing it down will curb any excesses.
Box Review (scores out of 10) Felt a little disjointed, the mint scent wasn't as dominant as I expected. Individually
Frozen - Grapefruit and Neroli Body Lotion 8/10, currently on 3 weeks daily uses love it.
Freeze - Peppermint Body Scrub 7/10, currently on 6 uses and going strong. Subtle smell but leaves the skin zinging
Northern Lights Soap (unused) - still on my Christmas Cranberry Soap
Abombinaball - Mint and Vanilla Shower Jelly 6/10. Current on 3 weeks daily use More Vanilla than mint, which I was disappointed with
Australian Igloo - naked body scrub. 2/10. No scent ended up with a gloop in the plastic mould.
New Products purchased Karma Body Scrub - not started as I'm using Freeze Botamancy Body Scrub - bought off my daughter as she hated it. I've not used it as still on Freeze
Replacement Products Sweet Wild Orange 100ml - started
So this month, I have 3 products I haven't used, which is about £57 worth hanging around.

For context I'm 15 m and for the most part I never had any problem with my mental health,but it doesn't change the fact that at a young age of 5 I was exposed to acholic father who screams and lost his job, because of that it left me a bad impression on my father even now I just can't look at him like without all those flashbacks..
Forward to 2020 life was still shit since my father is unemployed and my mother is. Carrying all of us and lockdown was not easy.(Forgot to mention but he also was a smoker) he got mad easily since he couldn't smoke and there was not shop available and he decided to quit...but that came with a prize that also left me traumatize...one day I think because of nicotine withdrawal but at age 11 I didn't know what nicotine was or it's withdrawal,but my father was ignoring all of us not talking and locks his door..when he came out and going to the toilet I asked him why was he acting wired and boom next thing he walks towards me and threaten to slap me...like bro wtf...I still remember that if I did something wrong and got discipline then yeah it's my fault but I did nothing wrong in that situation...after that I stopped caring for people on how they felt because I was scared and it definitely ruined my confidence...
Now in 2025 he started drinking again I think since he have been buying beef cans alot like 3-4 cans per day and gonor6he had to go somewhere for his job but he siad just to me that he cancelled his plan because his too drunk...note that this is not the first time happened this week and seeing this remember my early childhood days...and it's really getting to me...I have been experiencing random breakdown and anxiety which didn't happen before....its slowly getting to me now I can't sleep and I don't know what to do... talking about it won't fix the problem and it got to a point where I live everyday in anxiety and stress...some days I just wanna break down and cry and other just in complete sadness

Hello, I am a 26 year old Trans man looking for advice about moving to Thailand permanently.
Background: I have an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing and Film and an MFA in creative writing. I am also transgender & queer and very, very terrified the quality of life I will have going forward here in the US. I currently live in a high cost of living city where I feel safe as a queer person but am constantly worried about money and my current lease will be over August 1st and financially i'm not sure I can live here another year but my only other option would be moving in with my dad who lives in Texas :/
I just want to live somewhere I feel safe and don't have to worry about money constantly and can just not feel terrified all the time. I know that Thailand recently legalized same sex marriage which gives me hope, they have a lower cost of living, and from what I hear is pretty trans friendly. I just want to live somewhere I can focus on my writing and feel like I can breath if that makes sense.
In terms of work experience, I have only had retail jobs so I don't have a ton of experience. I'm planning to get my TEFL certificate before my lease is up in August and go move there to teach english, but I don't know much about the whole TEFL program and if there are better ways to become a teacher or if anyone has any other advice going down the teaching route. I also worry if my lack of teaching experience will preclude me from being able to teach, but I am currently in the process of applying for substitute teaching jobs in the hopes of getting some experience in the classroom.
I'm also open to any other job advice that people have. I will say that I have no interest in nannying, I don't mind teaching because at the end of the day its a job, but I'm not the best with kids especially one on one so i just don't think that would be a good job for me.
Any Visa advice is very welcome and I have no been out of the country in a very long time so I don't really know much or how long the visa process will take. I'm basically at the beginning of my moving journey so if anyone has any advice at all that would be really appreciated.

I was accepted into BACS in Nov, started GFACT Jan 1, and I just got a letter saying there is an update to the BACS, breaking out classes like the GPYC, adding BACS 3001 and 3002, and changing the internship. My understanding from the sans . edu site, is you cannot take 3001 and 3002 while taking another course. This really throws a wrench into the completion timeline, as well as, those using the GI Bill getting MAH. Has anyone heard anything differently? For anybody further along, are you grandfathered in or do you have to circle back to do 3001 and 3002?

2025.01.30 18:51 merrygo909 I wanna see a reality check for once.

I enjoy angst fics to a point but they can some times stretch well past my suspension of disbelief. I'll be clear that I'm not bashing anyone for liking these fics this is just my personal gripe.
I'm talking about those fics where everyone in the world is a pos to the main character, usually izuku, except for the love interest or a select few ppl. I can't find any reason to care in those fics about any kind of threat like afo cause those kinds of worlds seem better off destroyed or ruled by someone if everyone is awful anyway.
But I digress the reason I made this post was because of how izuku acts in these kinds of fics.
Usually he's quirkless or has a "monstrous" quirk and he acts like he suffers more than anyone in the world. He gives up on everything, has no ambitions and is a jerk to anyone who is nice to him because they might be tricking him.
And what really gets me is that everyone babies him and treats him with kid gloves no matter how he acts. Anyone who wants to be close to him spends forever having to beg him to believe them that they actually want to be his friends or partner.
For just once I want to see him get a reality check, something like what 16 said to Gohan in the tfs version.
"Izuku, grow up, you act like you're the only one suffering."
Idk I just had to vent about this, usually I have a good amount of sympathy for angst fics but I can't stand it when the mc is a jerk and everyone cuddles them endlessly.
Does anyone else feel like this?
