Hello everyone,
I am looking to track the current draw and battery voltage for an embedded device. The device is powered by a small LiPo battery. I believe there is an LDO or Buck converter to step the voltage down to 3.3V on the device.
My plan is to connect the battery in series with an ammeter and place a voltmeter in parallel with the battery. I can log the values over time manually. This should give me a baseline to compare with.
If want to use a microcontroller to do this for me, would it be as simple as placing a small 5 or 10 ohm resistor in series with the battery and measure the voltage drop across the resistor with ADC? Similarity could I just measure the voltage across the battery?
The draw will be 35mA to 45mA. I think I have a good enough understanding to convert a 8, 10 or 16 bit voltage value into a current.
I am not confident on if I need some shared or separate reference voltage for the current measurement. I think having ground and positive for the battery, the ADC will work as is, but for the current measument, will I use two ADC pins and find the difference before converting to current?

We have multiple teams open right now including.
Saints 0-5 Packers 1-4 Broncos 0-5 Steelers 0-5 Bengals 4-1 Jets 1-4 Titans 1-4
This is a 48 hour sim league. The league started after IRL Super Bowl with reg rosters so teams have some rookies from 2025 draft and different devs throughout because of starting league dev rewards. We have had users go inactive and so i cleared a bunch out tonight and am looking for replacements, we just advanced to week 6 and are looking to continue this league for at least 3 seasons as we are in season 1 right now, if we are going strong we can keep it going but 3 is the minimum I would like to do. The league is using NeonSportz and I would like anyone that joins to join the NeonSportz as it makes my life as commish abit easier.
