2025.01.31 01:10 timelessbuddha Couch gaming: Stream Games or Long HDMI? (Long Post)
Essentially I’m trying to figure out the best way to play my PC games on from the couch while minimizing latency / input lag and looking to take any suggestions. Currently my PC is in a small room besides my “living room” area where my couch is. The distance itself theoretically isnt that far but allowing for the cable to go around the wall etc and I’m probably looking at about a 25-30ft HDMI to be safe, I read recently that a standard HDMI cable that length might cause me some problems and I’d need some special type of HDMI cord about $40-50 bucks.
my initial plan involved taking an old laptop (i5-7700, gtx 1050) leaving it plugged up to my TV almost like a console and using Steam Link to stream games from my Gaming PC however since both my Gaming PC and the Laptop are both currently only on WiFi the experience was less than optimal & there was an unsatisfying input lag imo on the TV, as well as intermittent stutters due to what I believe is the WiFi.
I’ve been meaning to get myself a MoCa adapter for myself here in the basement to be able to get some ethernet/hard wiring capability for my PC for a while anyways. All in all to get the desirable MoCa setup for myself here in the basement I’m gonna be looking at around $100ish but with that I’d be able to hookup both my gaming PC and Laptop via ethernet to the same switch to hopefully solve the latency/input delay issues that I think are being caused by WiFi.
I guess my question is would the experience be good now using Steam Link and or possibly Moonlight/Sunshine with the MoCa setup with my PC and Laptop or will it be smoother using an extended 25 ft HDMI? Not necessarily on a budget but I’d also rather not spend extra money on another HDMI cord that may not work ideally as I want to. Looking to peoples thoughts also on if having the MoCa setup in general will be a better QoL update by providing the ability to hardwire my PC by my desk? and if overall it’d be more beneficial than NOT getting it and buying the special HDMI cord solely to connect directly from my gaming PC to the TV?

I am thinking of transferring to brockport for sophomore year. I want to choose a roomate but I've had a hard time really meeting anyone who's currently a freshman there. But it'd be easier to meet people who are going in for their first year in the fall since they won't have pre-picked roommates.  | Here’s the rig that lives in my truck. I have lighter rigs for hikes and hunts, but if the shit went down, this is what I’m going to first I run my hand warmer as a dangler from my K19. I know my mic isn’t the best, but it works. I run a remote antenna to my pack panel and under my water bag. In my utility pouch I run: gorilla tape, 10x power mono, spare batteries, head lamp and white chem sticks. In my admin pouch, I keep a small write in the rain, golf pencils(buy them on amazon), spare shears and a bug net. My support bag I’ve been running since 2009. It’s bombproof and works well as an emergency range bag if need be. It’s got everything from full IFAK to some spare water and sheers. Any questions, feel free. It just feels like such an unsportsmanlike way to play. These opening traps/gambits break all the fundamental opening principles. How is this even a good way of learning and improving at the game?
And the fact that I, who follows all the opening principles, am losing to these noobs (500 elo)?? yeah, that's just not fair.
Like in the game below, I followed basically every opening principle. i put pawns in the centre, put my c pawn in front of my knight, knights before bishops, castled early, brought rooks to the centre etc, jjust unbelievable. my opponent didnt even touch the light squared bishop and queen side rook, and just started pushing random pawns for crying out loud!!! clearly there is a disparity in understanding of sensible opening principles... still lost in under 20 moves. I mean come on!!!!!!!! hate chess
And my opponent found the knight sac on f2 in 1 seconds, so there clearly have studied this sort of trappy opening before. once again not fair
whenever i face a trappy opening i try to study it to see where i went wrong, but considering at 500 elo many players are playing traps, i feel like i might as well study a proper opening and save the hassle of constantly having to lose to learn about these traps

Only critque I can think of is when I go to share a clip on discord, the Channels dropdown list is randomized. I know the order of my discord server like chapters in a book and can flip straight to them via scroll wheel. I can't just flip in that dropdown menu, necessitating having to scan the list item by item to find 💩poop-butt-clips or 🔥sick-butt-clips. They're right next to eachother in discord and 4 items away in the dropdown. Order them by the way they appear in the server.
Perk idea: My headset has two channels: Chat Audio and Game Audio. I can only record one at a time. That sucks. Give me an option to add another audio source so I record the game AND discord. If you want to go above and beyond, let me control the gain of those sources in the editor before clipping and sharing.
