House setup:
- Water heater in basement that was just replaced
- One half bath on 1st floor
- One full bath on 2nd floor
- One full bath in basement (totally decommissioned, for now)
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot? The low pressure on the hot side issue also happened ~6 years ago and one plumber came and worked behind the bathtub faucet and solved the problem for quite cheap. But this time, even after this plumber removied the bathtub cartridge there was very low pressure on the hot water.
Most pipes have been replaced recently - EXCEPT for parts of the input line that goes to the water heater that is galvanized. There's various pipes with different diameters that go around the basement ceiling (maybe 50-70 feet long!) before finally going into the water heater.
Concerns: The plumber who installed the water heater didn't exactly give me any confidence about his skills/honesty. (Sorry for being rude, clearly I know nothing about plumbing so it's not fair of me to judge him harshly.)
- He initially said the hot water pipes are decades old and that's causing the hot water low pressure --> they are not
- Then he said there could be debris/calcium/etc. in the pipes that could be obstructing the flow of water --> if this is the case, I don't understand how everything worked fine before we replaced the heater
- He then said the debris/calcium/etc. may have accumulated in the cold water input that goes into the water heater and is quiting close to $2000 to replace this. I asked him how do we know this will fix it? I wanted him to confirm that the pressure in the upstairs bathroom sink is fine on the hot water but he said he had no way of measuring it. He said that the pressure on the backyard hose is 100+ (psi? I forgot the unit) and then he said he also needed to install a PRV? (pressure reducing valve?) in the water heater?
