So, hypothetically, let’s say I ran stop sign very near my house. A cop was there as I turned down my street. He hit his lights as I turned into my driveway, pulled into my garage and closed the garage door. He pulled into my drive, lights on, and proceeded to knock on my door.
Do I need to answer the door? What happens if I just ignore the knocking? What is the expected ultimate outcome of this?
I live in Texas in case there is some differences in state law.

Genuinely crashing out over this. He broke up with me preemptively, literally the day after he got into an out of state grad school. Said he didn’t believe in casual dating, and with him moving (in 6+ months) our relationship would be on its deathbed and we’d both know it and he couldn’t handle that. And now, two weeks later, he’s on a dating app. “Looking for long term.” Did his plans change? Is he okay with casual as long as it isn’t me? He said the breakup had nothing to do with me, that it wasn’t that he didn’t love me or that I wasn’t enough, our futures just weren’t aligned right now. But now he’s looking for someone else? I don’t understand and it hurts. We were together for nearly a year… how can he move on so quickly, and how is that better than staying with me?

The home was renovated a little over a year ago. Shared spaces include kitchen, living room, one bathroom, backyard, and garage. Shared spaces come furnished, except for the bathroom. Street parking is available and a shared driveway. The house has vinyl wood floor throughout. Central AC and heat. On-site washer and dryer available. My brain is currently stuck in a loop.
I saw a post on instagram where someone died in a motorcycle crash but all they post are videos of reckless driving, excessive speeding, wheelies, lane splitting on busy highways and all without proper protection.
When I saw the post my first thought was “oh well, they were asking for it”
And then I thought “that’s horrible why would I think that”
So I got onto google to try to figure out what the hell is wrong with me for not caring that someone died. But I just don’t.
When someone drives drunk and dies, I don’t care. If they kill someone in the process I only feel bad for the innocent party. When I see motorcycles driving recklessly on the street I imagine them dying and that’s one less person risking other people’s lives.
I know that’s horrible. I don’t want people to die. I don’t wish they would die. I wish they wouldn’t do stupid things that risk other people’s lives too. If they take other people’s lives, then their life should end too.
But it’s conflicting in my head. Literally a loop in my brain that says if bad people die they never have the chance to be good. But also if they die they never have the chance to be bad again too.
This also goes for people who die doing other reckless activities not involving vehicles. (YouTubers that stick their heads in microwaves with concrete for example)
They knew the risk was death. They took it anyways. Why should I feel empathy? Also why don’t I feel empathy?
I also don’t feel empathy when people close to me die. There was recently a death in my family and while everyone around me felt heartbroken and sad I just felt nothing. Now I’m here thinking maybe I’m a bad person who also deserves to die (by my logic) And I can’t find a remedy for the situation.
There isn’t really a compulsion. Maybe these are intrusive thoughts? I don’t want these thoughts. I don’t like these thoughts. I don’t even think I agree with the thoughts. But I’m having them and I know I’m a bad person too for it.
(I do not have thoughts of killing or hurting others.)
