My father 76yo is in failing health. He has “mild cognitive decline”. Basically early-mid stages of Alzheimer’s. He isn’t very forthcoming with me and I live across the country so it’s been difficult to keep an eye on him as this decline progresses.
A month ago he revealed to me that he was in an online relationship with Reese Witherspoon whom he met through Facebook. I immediately recognized this as a romantic scam and tried my best to communicate that with him. He was reluctant to admit he had been sending her gift cards and said it was only for a few hundred dollars. Despite my best efforts and some acknowledgment on his part he refused my advice to break contact with this person. He was somewhere between admitting he knew it was a scam and believing he may actually be in a relationship with Reese Witherspoon. At one point he even said I know it’s not her but it’s nice to have someone to talk to. This was heartbreaking.
Today, I managed to get him on the phone, and it all came out. Their relationship started months before I was aware, and he admitted to sending gift cards totaling $20k over the last several months. He now acknowledges that this was a scam all along and is convinced he’s too sharp to let it happen again. He started talking about recouping some of the money through the government. I think the scammers have likely moved onto a recovery scam, which I have warned him about.
The loss he has suffered is minimal in comparison to his savings, but I fear he will continue to fall victim to various scams until he has nothing left. My father was a college professor his entire career, and it pains me to hear that he is losing his hard-earned life savings to scammers. His body is strong, but his mind is fleeting. I know there’s a long and expensive road of care in his future that I simply will not be able to cover.
My father was loving and always had my back. I feel I owe it to him to help him navigate this stage of life. Watching this occur from across the country I feel helpless.
My goal is to protect my father’s wealth so he can enjoy the remaining years.

 | View from the back wall. Best speaker placement is probably top left in the image, corner or above the door. I'm looking to add audio to my kitchen and have a kindof unique use case/setup for this sub. I'm seeking advice on if folks think a stereo setup or a single center channel speaker would work better for the space, and product suggestions. Space and counters are limited, so I think mounting options are to build a small shelf in that top left corner, hang speakers from the ceiling, or speakers designed to mount right on the wall. I have a receiver with A/B speaker options as well as 5 channel with a currently unused center channel, and ideally would power everything from the one system (8ohm minimum). The main stereo listening is in the living room kitty corner on the main floor, but I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, often when other people are in the other rooms. The main floor of our house is a bit over 600 sq.ft. so having separate systems doesn't flow well, but 2 channel stereo in the other room is a poor solution for having music on the whole floor. Im 16F, I've had POTS, gerd, and suspected cfs for 9 months now, and Its completely ruined me mentally. Im bedbound all day and all night and am not getting better no matter what I do so I've lost all hope. I have no friends and am constantly isolated. I barely have enough energy to do stuff I liked like drawing or playing games. I feel alone and just not like myself anymore, i don't cry i don't smile I just lay in bed all day scrolling on my phone. I do online therapy but it doesn't help. Nothing is helping me and I've lost all motivation to do anything at all. I dont know what to do anymore. I feel like I'm dying everyday and it scares me so badly.

First let me say that I don’t for a minute want to downplay the potential dangers of AI. I just want to explore a different perspective here which to me personally brings more concern.
Society is still reeling from the advent of internet communication. I don’t think anyone here would consider that a hot take. Whether it’s good or bad is irrelevant here, what’s relevant is that it happened fast and changed everything. It created new societal problems faster than could be dealt with, and it changed the way we view the world faster than many people could respond to in a healthy way.
That chaos is I think theoretically temporary, but is also I think still very much underway. Our response to the internet is deeply tied to postmodernist anxieties, which are still not resolved. Ideally, we would have dealt with this already before being confronted with AI. For better or worse, it’s here, and so this is my primary concern. Mass existential crises. I think we need to work to keep our minds very resilient and agile in the coming decade. I’m interested to hear what others think of this.

Looking to understand where I should be prioritising my savings for future retirement. Any thoughts and wisdom would be greatly appreciated!
Current breakdown:
- £90,000 Vanguard S&S ISA in FTSE Global All Cap
- £25,000 Workplace Pension
- £20,000 Cash (originally planned on filtering this into the S&S ISA)
- £130,000 House Equity (3 bed semi, partner but no kids - plan to have kid/s in future)
I currently have a salary of £45,000, putting £675 into my workplace pension (9% myself, 9% employer contribution)
Playing around a few calculators online…
For the pension aspect, I’m comfortable with the current set up, but open to changing if I’m missing something:
Current Age: 27 Retirement Age: 60 Starting Value: £25,000 Monthly Contributions: £675 Post Inflation Growth: 5% Final Value: £785,000 SWR: 4% Retirement Spending £30,000 per annum / £2,500 per month
[Understand the pension calculation above is slightly off given I’d not be contributing for the last 5 years if I was living off my ISA from 55 (below).]
For the S&S ISA, I’m now thinking scaling back is not the worst thing. Happy with a higher SWR to bridge the gap to the Pension.

My question is - I can save around £4,000 a year over and above my pension contribution. Given the substantial proportion of my savings in the S&S ISA, is a S&S LISA the way forward so that I could take advantage of the £1,000 contribution? I’m only thinking of this as the amount in my S&S ISA would already naturally compound to a rate where it could bridge the gap to my Workplace Pension so not having access to the LISA part until 60 isn’t a disaster.
