2025.02.01 21:51 wcsib01 Thoughts on going gov to gov contractor right now?
Would you make this career jump? (US DoD to DoD contractor)
I’m currently a DoD civilian making about 130k. I’m expecting a job offer from a small subcontractor doing cleared DoD data work for about 200-210k.
New job sounds a bit boring. My current management sucks, so I guess those even out. New company would have about the same amount of time off, fully paid health premiums, etc. obviously, stability will be more of a concern.
Thoughts?

I guess I can't post photos of the paperwork but I'll write it as it's printed on the paperwork. 2007 Pontiac Torrent

We took it in to check the codes
"DIAGNOSIS - Check Engine Light On & Active. Need to inspect & advise. See history on previous work performed.

I would appreciate any insight. Is this vehicle drivable? Shocks and tires I figure are definitely going to need to be done sooner than later, and brake fluid flush when it's time. Any advice as to what I can do with the catalytic converter not getting hot enough? Is that worse than too hot?

I thought mass (or weight) increases as your speed increases- that’s why you cannot go at light speed as your mass would increase and you would need more fuel to accelerate. Did the book address how they could go at 0.95 light speed and related mass increase? Thanks! (Apologies if my understanding of mass and speed is incorrect)

What Would Stoner Do is a media project started by InRangeTV in 2017 that asked the question what would Eugene Stoner do if designing the AR15 today.
This upper tried to take that inspiration and use some of the highest quality (read gucci) components.
Parts are assembled but never used. Moved onto another project that now requires the funds.

2025.02.01 21:51 BoredGirlForNow I'm new in this sub, questions and more.
Hey everyone!
I’m new to this subreddit, and I’m not even sure if what I’m about to say is allowed or even proper here, but I figured I’d give it a try.
I have an older account that I made back in 2020, but honestly, I felt a little embarrassed using it here. I’ve always been active in various subreddits, and people there tend to be pretty judgmental. Where I’m from, most people would make fun of me or call me childish, dumb, or immature for believing in fairies, elves, and well....mythological creatures in general. But I guess that kind of reaction could happen anywhere. Y'all know how people are when you argue with them, the first thing they do is to check your profile, see where you've commented before, and use that against you to ridicule your interests.
Anyway, I just really needed to vent about something that’s been on my mind for a long time.
Since I was a kid, I’ve always been fascinated by nature, tiny animals and plants. I love taking care of them, and my mom does too, though I’ve never told her about this specific interest of mine.
The thing is, I’ve always felt drawn to the idea of the fae. I want to communicate with them, befriend them, and just be closer to their world. And—this part is a little weird, I know—but sometimes, I even feel a certain attraction to them. I don’t know how to explain it. Maybe I’m just overthinking, or maybe I’m completely delusional in that aspect. Who knows? Forget that part lol.
I’ve been obsessed with fairies and elves since I was about eight years old. I was a huge fan of the Tinker Bell movies, and Strange Magic is still one of my favorite films. Now that I’m old enough, I’m considering a career as an environmental engineer, but I’m also really interested in cryptozoology. I’d love to study these beings more seriously and maybe even write books (anonymously) about any encounters I have with them. I’m not really into goblins or gnomes and stuff like that—I’m more fascinated by fae, elves, fauns-satyrs and similar creatures.
My long-term plan was also to move to a country like Iceland or Norway preferably to a rural area where I can stay connected to nature, hike often, and have a better chance of encountering these beings in a private and meaningful way. I honestly doubt I’d ever find them in my home country since it’s so small and tropical although my house is in front of a forest lol
Now, onto my questions:
• I’m a Christian, and my family is religious as well. What should I do? Should I feel guilty or sinful about all this? I feel like if I opened up to them about this, they’d either tell me to read the Bible more, go to church, or send me to a psychiatrist. I don’t want to be judged over something so harmless. Has anyone here been in a similar situation? How did you handle it?
• How do I avoid running into demonic entities? The fae are magical beings, and many are described as beautiful, but I imagine there’s also a risk of encountering something who isn't exactly that and is just fooling you, and is obviously.... darker. That’s the only thing that genuinely scares me about all this. Does anyone have advice on how to protect myself spiritually?
• How can I communicate with them? In the countries I plan to travel to, what’s the best way to approach this or to approach fairies in general? Are there specific locations where encounters are more likely? If you’ve had experiences, where did they happen? In your country USA, canada?
• Btw. I know that in countries like Iceland some people are fed up of us "weird people" who are interested in their culture and stories and don't believe in the fae either, but I still can't help but want to travel there.
• Can you share your own experiences? I’d love to hear your stories—feel free to make them as detailed as possible. If I ever write a book about this, I’d love to include them (with you guys permission, of course).
I’d really appreciate any support or advice you can offer. I just want a place where I can talk about this without being ridiculed. And yeah, I probably sound a little crazy, but I’d rather not hear that, please approach this with all the respect you have had in your life.
Oh, and before anyone says it—I know the environmental engineering is not something you can make a living forever, much less cryptozoology (which I won't even consider it a career but rather a hobby). I’ll obviously also study something that makes more money so I can afford rent and groceries, lol. But I just wanted a career that would bring me closer to what I’ve always loved. The nature and the fae.
If anyone prefers to share their experiences in private, my DMs are open! I’d also love to make friends who share similar interests or if you prefer to talk about something else is fine to me.

2025.02.01 21:51 ZealousidealSmile950 Where is Placidusax's Fifth Head?
Two of Placidusax's heads remain on his body. Two are on the back of Bayle, seemingly lost in combat. Placidusax has five necks that we can visibly see. So where is Placidusax's fifth head? https://preview.redd.it/xuuk8xtm1lge1.png?width=235&format=png&auto=webp&s=c55b57fc14142aff8e2a70da48e5b734870df5e7 Even on the old lord's talisman, which we can assume is representing Placidusax, shows four heads. This isn't the only difference depicted on the talisman. If we look closely, the heads on the talisman don't quite look the same as what we see on Placidusax; also, the wings differ. Finally, there is a strange ring at the top of the talisman; which may just be where one might tie a string. Is this fifth head being purpose hidden; or.. Is there more to this story than meets the eye? Separation of Gold from Shadow The world of Elden Ring was at one point separated. This was seemingly done in the cinematic cutscene for Shadow of the Erdtree. Notice.. The world of Elden Ring is full of beings that make up two halves of the same coin. Duality is a very strong theme in Elden Ring : -The two and three fingers, both having fingers that the other lacks, which together would make a whole hand. One hand embodying creation and order, the other chaos and destruction. -The Greater Will and the Frenzied Flame. One which wishes to separate, and another which wishes to return to one. -A land of Shadow, and a land of Gold. -Omen twins with opposite alignments. -Marika and Radagon. -Miquella and Trina. The list goes on... So, what if this theme of duality also applied to Placidusax? What if there were a real world mythological tale of a five headed dragon that was divided? Tiamat: The Primordial Chaos Goddess Let me start by saying, Tiamet, in ancient times, was not necessarily depicted as a five headed dragon. No, that is a modern interpretation that was popularized by Dungeons and Dragons; something GRRM is a huge fan of. Depiction of Tiamet from Dungeons and Dragons I believe Placidusax is infact inspired by this character. The visuals come from D&D, but the lore, i believe is inspired by the real world myth; which we'll go into now. Tiamat is one of the oldest and most significant figures in Babylonian mythology, appearing in the Enuma Elish, the Babylonian creation epic. She represents primordial chaos, the mother of the first gods, and a cosmic force that is both creator and destroyer.
In the myth, a being named Marduk. In the Enuma Elish, the Babylonian creation myth, Tiamat, the primordial goddess of chaos and the sea, is split in half by Marduk, and her body is used to create the heavens(the sky, the ordered cosmos) and the earth (the chaotic foundation of reality). This act is one of the most important cosmic events in Mesopotamian mythology, symbolizing the transition from chaos (disorder) to cosmos (order). Translating this to Elden Ring It all sounds so familiar, doesn't it? Taking a world that was disordered, and ordering it. A golden order. The hornsent, who are believed to be aligned to the crucible, and by extension, likely to the One Great, represent a "primordial chaos". An unordered mess of life. Oneness. It is essentially the same story as the Babylonian creation myth. Where do we find Placidusax? Floating in the air in Farum Azula.. In the "Heavens". Which, from the babylonian myth, is where one have of Tiamet's body was used.. The other half being used to make the earth... Now... Who could that be. Why, it could only be Bayle the Dread, who rests atop a mountain/volcano.. The earth. What a coincidence too that, both dragons environments appear to roughly imitate one another. https://preview.redd.it/jpv37lb6alge1.png?width=728&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9e015bcf8ace3934c8b92efa8ff1a93a3151fbe https://preview.redd.it/b250ql88alge1.png?width=705&format=png&auto=webp&s=b12eda0aaafcf2e6431a9d605635b0f5ad1ad8ce In Placidusax's arena, we have bodies uniformly placed and solidified into the structure. In Bayle's arena, we have a more crude form. The flowers on the ground representing the fallen warrior (as explained in that one item description, you know the one, the red flower from the heart one..). In Tiamet's myth, the earthen half is described to be "chaotic". The "chaotic foundation of reality". The heavens half is described as the "sky and ordered cosmos". Remember as well, something many people seem to have overlooked.. Bayle is stated to be the "oldest" dragon. "Yes, as it should be. Now, seek the jagged peak. There you will find Bayle, the oldest, and vilest, of all dragons." That is weird right? You'd think Placidusax would be the oldest, he is the dragonlord afterall. That is likely because they were one and the same being. Bayle is Placidusax's fifth head. Not convinced? Ancient Dragon Anatomy https://preview.redd.it/69u0rl24dlge1.png?width=551&format=png&auto=webp&s=e4be1880c79493528801e635a9c54064d0bfde31 Pay close attention to the structure of the ancient dragons, and compare them to Placidusax. Notice, their facial structure differs significantly. The ancient dragons lack a nose horn, and also, their teeth are behind their nose. The eye socket is also placed higher. Meanwhile, the modern dragon head actually looks closer to Placidusax, even having a nose horn. Placidusax's body, however.. More closely aligns with the ancient dragons. On the flipside... Bayle's facial structure is more similar to the ancient dragon's, lacking a nose horn and having teeth behind the nose point. His body however, more closely aligns with the modern dragons; having only two wings (if we exclude his phantom wings). This is strange.... Surely the modern dragons should look more similar to Bayle, right? Whereas the ancient dragons should look more like Placidusax.. Why then do they have the wrong head for who they're associated with? The Origin of the Modern Dragon I have a theory on why this may be the case... You see, if this whole splitting debacle is true, then logic would suggest the ancient immortal dragons originated from BEFORE Placidusax was split; and the modern dragons are from AFTER the split. That is why they're flawed.. Because they come from only ONE half of what was once the whole. Also interesting to note.. In D&D, each of Tiamet's heads represent a type of dragon. It really can't be stressed enough how important D&D is to GRRM.. His entire writing career essentially originated from it; so i would not be surprised if the same rules applied here in Elden Ring. If we look at depictions of Tiamet from D&D, we always see this black dragon with the downward curved horns.. https://preview.redd.it/tjtdafttglge1.png?width=389&format=png&auto=webp&s=46f05bfdc55d64d7ccf3f6c7bad54c8b1bbef9ae https://preview.redd.it/k7aks5ywglge1.png?width=550&format=png&auto=webp&s=29a2d1b688bf5f4de8ee61df58867bf3e98ca022 https://preview.redd.it/ukxzkp92hlge1.png?width=431&format=png&auto=webp&s=60e498fbfec3120623b6fe7fed36f2c52cca2d90 https://preview.redd.it/r9t0pzg4hlge1.png?width=258&format=png&auto=webp&s=e07ccce218098f4164573e781fce1a136926033a Is Bayle Placidusax's fifth head? Were they split? Does this somehow tie to the separation of Gold and Shadow (Highly likely very important to that event, but i'll make a theory on that later). Finally... WHY are they trying to kill Eachother? I believe the reason they may be trying to kill eachother has everything to do with dragon communion; and the nature of both halves. Bayle, is quite clearly more chaotic than Placidusax; and what do we know about chaos in Elden Ring? Chaos wants to destroy, but in doing so, it's actual intent is to return everything to one. We know this from Hyetta, when she tells us the supposed intent of the frenzied flame.. Absolute destruction, with the intent being to return to one. On the flipside.. The greater will creates through separation. It orders. Bayle devours the hearts of other dragons, in doing so, they become one with him. How do we know? Because in partaking in dragon communion, you take on some of the dragon's powers. Their will may even exist within the devourer of the heart. In one of the items we get from devouring Bayle's heart, it suggests his will threatens to overtake the host. "Even after being consumed, the throbbing heart of Bayle continues to resist its subjugation, never weakening. One day, the fire within will consume the very body and soul of its Communion devourer. One day." Devouring something appears to combine it with the host. What you eat becomes part of you.. How do we know? From Rykard of course, and his serpent family. On the flipside, Placidusax merely seems to want Bayle dead, and has no intent of devouring his heart; which again, would align with his more ordered disposition and environment. The Final Clue... Placidusax doesn't drop a heart. This is weird, because every dragon in the game (i think) aside from Placidusax drops a heart. Was this a deliberate choice? Is this a clue pointing us toward Bayle having their one heart? If Bayle really does have Placidusax's heart, then why is he trying to kill Placidusax? Is it simply for domination over dragon kind? Or does he intend to eat his body, Rykard style, and return to his original form? I don't know. It could be they just arbitrarily chose no to give Placidusax a heart; but i thought i'd mention it just in case. Anyway, let me know what you think of this idea. submitted by ZealousidealSmile950 to Eldenring [link] [comments] |

2025.02.01 21:51 CheckmateVideos What's an easy way to flavor baked baby potatoes?
My roommate often loads up an aluminum pan of chicken, baby potatoes, and chopped onions and sticks it in an oven to bake. What comes out is perfectly edible, it tastes fine, but it's pretty bland, especially after the leftovers are put in the fridge. The potatoes taste completely unseasoned. What can I suggest he do to add to the recipe? I've so far managed to convince him to rub down the chicken with some spices, and that's vastly improved the taste coming out of the oven and after a night in the fridge, but the baby potatoes just taste bland.
