So I was a seasonal hire but my store manager said they’d keep me on. I went to visit family out of state for a month and let them know well in advance that would be happening, they said everything was fine. My last scheduled day was on Dec 22 but I was told I was still being kept on, they just dropped hours drastically and gave them to those who needed a paycheck (I have a FT job this was just PT). Picked up another shift or two off schedule before I went away. Now I’m back, tried to log onto the UKG app to add availability but when I try to log on to UKG app it doesn’t let me, doesn’t tell me my user ID/password is wrong or anything, the screen just resets. Did they just let me go without saying anything lol ?? I contacted my store manager and haven’t heard back, plan to call store to confirm if I don’t but I’m just curious if it’s even worth it? I really liked the job and needed the money but I’m feeling pretty jaded that I was probably lied to and they got rid of me without having the courage to say anything…

 | Im not an active user of this sub. I think I’ve seen before but I never distinguished it apart from any other TLOU subreddits. I thought they were all the same. After a rabbit hole I discovered from some weird downvotes I discovered they are not all the same! In the other sub’s you will be downvoted into oblivion and some people were banned for having criticisms of the game or show? I don’t even mean big stuff. You could not like one scene or just not enjoy certain parts of the game and suddenly you’re “from that echochamber subreddit” Which is quite interesting they say that, because I see a variety of all kinds of posts and comments in here? Obviously some people push it way too far, but you’re actually allowed to have any opinion here other than “the game/show is perfect.” I didn’t even suggest that it was bad… I just suggested they might have altered the show structure from the game to make the story appeal to the audience better? I guess that’s a CRAZY thought. Yet the only reality in those reddits are that EVERYONE likes the games except some crazy minority echo-chambers. TL;DR: I’m a 43-year-old dad who absolutely loves skiing but can only squeeze in about 10 days a year (3-4 in New England, 5 out West). My kids (11 and 13) are decent on blues/groomed blacks (although the 11yo is always complaining before every black), and I want to get them better so we can share more advanced terrain together. I’m married, very happy, and overall life is good—but I can’t shake this feeling that I’m missing out on something I love. Money isn’t a deal-breaker; I’m ready to invest what it takes to make this work. Any stories or advice on how others have found the right family-work-ski balance?
Longer Version / Context:
I just finished my third day on the slopes this season, and it’s hitting me hard: I need more ski days in my life. First day was a laid-back one—about 12k vertical, family day, mostly groomers. Second day was another 12k, with a bit more variety (some blues, one groomed black, but only after a lot of fighting). Leisurely 90min sit down lunches both days.
My third day, though, was a solo mission where I managed 29k vert hitting the front four at Stowe plus dipping into the woods in between (50/50 split). Lunch was half a bag of gummy worms and 3 slim jims. It felt incredible. And now I’m itching for more.
The Dilemma: I’m at an age where I want to be a responsible dad and husband (kids in middle school, after-school activities, etc.), but I also want to chase that feeling of freedom and adrenaline that only skiing gives me. Right now, we’re managing maybe 3-4 days in New England each year, plus about 5 days out West. While that’s more than some people can manage, I’m looking to up my game—without shortchanging family time.
Kids & Family: I really want to bring my kids along on this journey. They’re comfortable on blues and groomed blacks (But that takes a fight), but I’d love to see them progress to more challenging terrain—and genuinely enjoy it. I’m open to lessons, camps, or even more unorthodox approaches to help them build skills. I also want my wife (who skis but isn’t as obsessed as I am) to keep enjoying it, too.
Money/Logistics: I know that costs can be a major barrier (we’ve all seen how pricey passes, hotels, lessons, etc. can be). But I’m in a fortunate position where budget isn’t the biggest concern. If there’s an amazing, albeit expensive, approach—whether that’s specialized coaching, frequent weekend trips, or even part of a season living near a mountain—I’m open to it (there is the annoyance of school though - can’t exactly get out of that). We live in Philadelphia 15min from the airport.
What I’m Asking:
1. Personal Stories: Have you (or someone you know) figured out a way to significantly increase your ski days while still being there for your kids and spouse? How did you manage work schedules, school obligations, etc.? 2. Family Progression: What’s the best way to get kids from “comfortable on blues” to genuinely advanced, confident skiers? Any specific instruction programs, private coaches, or longer-term camps that worked wonders? 3. Lifestyle Changes: Anyone tried partial relocations for a season or going in on a ski condo? Did you find it worth it, or did it become more hassle than fun? How did you manage this with kids school? 4. Travel & Pass Strategies: Any top-tier pass or travel hacks that let you maximize days without burning out your family? Thanks so much for reading.
