Just wanted to give me take on this debate about how random it is, yes I know nobody asked for my opinion but I think it's a reasonable one that might help people better understand the admissions game. College admissions is NOT random. Randomness implies spinning a wheel to decide who gets in. HOWEVER, it might feel random to people on the outside. This is because colleges have institutional priorities. Harvards and all the great schools people in here want to go to do not wish to fill their classes with the best academic performers that apply. Colleges are looking for a diverse group of students which means that inevitably you may be rejected, despite being perfectly qualified academically. If a college wants students from a particular race, location, major, extracurricular interest, there's nothing random about it. It's just we on the outside don't know what particular priorities each school has, so it feels random. Anyways, the main point of this message is one of encouragement. No, just because you got rejected doesn't mean you had some big flaw in your LORs, essays, or ecs. You might just not have been the person that particular school was looking for, and that's okay.

2025.02.02 04:51 anonbirdies desperate for any tips or suggestions, been stuck like this for ages
I, (15F), have had the worst what I think is a migraine for about a month now. I've never had one before, and honestly, it's driving me insane. It started off in mid-december, kind of like a dull ache that went away with pain meds and then came back continuously. Around the start of jan, it got slowly worse until I could hardly function properly.
I'm having weird vision issues, stabbing pains in the sides of my head and the back of my head, my shoulders, neck, and back are KILLING me, and absolutely nothing is helping.
Yes, I've gone to the doctors. I've gotten two of those butt shots (I think they are called toradol, unsure) and they hardly touched it. I got allergy relief stuff and exedrin, which did nothing, and then took some muscle relaxers, which did nothing for my head but made my shoulders hurt slightly less. I then was given a migraine pill, rizatripan, which I had a somewhat severe allergic reaction to.
That was honestly my last straw, and I've got no clue what to do. I've been sitting in a dark room pretty much every day, trying not to cry. I've gotten bad headaches before, but this is genuine hell.
The fact my head hurts is enough, but when it gets worse, it causes severe back and shoulder pain. Literally no clue what to do to help it. In desperate need of some advice from people who won't just tell me to drink more water, or have a cold coke and some salt. Sorry if this post sounds whiney, I'm a bit distraught at the moment. Thanks all 💗

Help! I’m trying to remember the title of these books that I believe were in a series of 3 books.
They were small and rectangle sized and on the cover of one book there was a ballerina on it with her back facing the cover of the book. There was a blue background and like dark pink curtains from what I could remember.
The next book in the series was her friend and I remember her name was Margot. That book was also small and rectangle sized and orange with the girl Margot on it but you just see her head and her eyes peeking out from her bangs on the bottom of the book.
From that book, I can remember she had a brother who worked at McDonald’s who brought her food home after his shift. Her mom she described her driving with her knees.
I can’t remember anything else about these books but that I read them as an almost tween and for the life of me can’t remember the book name so I can try and find them online.
Does anyone know what I’m talking about?
They were sold during Scholastic book fairs.

My daughter will start TK this fall so I’m trying to learn as much as I can. Does it matter which charter we ultimately get accepted into/choose? Are some better than others or is it just a means to get charter funds so I can find my own curriculum/activities?
I would want a solid support system because I’m very new to this and would love school-offered activities/classes etc to meet new friends, so if anyone has charter recommendations that would be great too. We’re in Orange County.
