2024.11.25 00:40 Piratey_Pirate My controller isn't being registered 90% of the times I launch the game. Anyone able to help?
I have the GoG version of Divinity Original Sin 2 installed on my PC. I have my steam deck in the living room docked to my TV. Both are hardwired. My controller is a PS4 dualshock.
I am able to interact with the steam UI on my deck with my controller, but when I launch the game, I can't play it. The starting screen with the prompt "press any key or A" (to determine input method) doesn't go away. If I click the PS button on my controller, the steam deck menu pops up and I can navigate through that. It's just the game not reading the controller.
What's really weird is that it works sometimes. I'll restart my deck, restart the game, restart steam on my PC - eventually a combination will work. I cannot figure what exactly is resolving the issue but it's at least a 20 minutes ordeal every time I want to play this game.

2024.11.25 00:40 lovelacedeconstruct fixed-sized pool allocator and multithreading
I was profiling a multithreaded server program I wrote and I noticed that allocating and freeing memory was taking up a big chunk of the running time and most allocations have a very short lifetime, I organized it so all allocations are fixed size so preallocating a large pool should significantly improve the problem but
1- I want too support incomplete requests, I would like a thread to do as much as it can and when it stalls to just save the context and move on and another thread along the line can pick up and continue so using thread local pools is not possible
2- I experimented with using one global pool but the allocation speed benifits are eclipsed by the time spent sleeping or in a spin-lock trying to acquire the lock
Its a really interesting problem and I would guess its common so I wonder what would you do in a situation like this ?

Fell in love with stooge cycles the day I saw the over on instagram, loaned some money from a friend to buy one since there was only one left in stock and new batches from Stooge are pretty rare. It ended up being one of the best purchases I’ve ever done! Suspension is not really needed where I live (Flanders, Belgium), especially with the massive tires on a steel frame. Also wonderful for bikepacking, the thing handles insanely well when fully loaded (most weight on the front of the bike and inside the frame).
