Not sure if this is allowed on this subreddit, but here it goes. I’m not an only child and neither is my husband. We’re a couple in our 30s that has gone through a lot of fertility struggles to start a family. We always thought about just having one child before starting this journey, but the fertility struggles have only solidified this choice. An only child sounds appealing on our end as parents, my only hesitation is for my future child.
Basically I want to hear from you your experience being an only child. My husband and I have a great life and marriage, and we’d definitely excel at the DINK life and enjoy ourselves. We take full advantage of being childfree even though we’d also love to be parents.
I want to know what you think about our choice to only have one as an only child? One and done is all we’re willing to do. So it’s either we make this little human and love them endlessly whilw never give them a sibling OR they don’t exist at all.

Dom dreamt he floundered in a superheated sea, and an octopus had ensnared him in its tentacles, and he was suffocating...
Dom woke, sweating, tangled in his quilt, nose still blocked and sinuses swollen from flu. Pulling himself free of the bedding, he staggered up, vision spinning, and shuffled into the kitchen. The house was empty, late morning sun pierced through the partly drawn curtains, and he squinted at the note on the fridge.
“Hi babe, there's soup in the fridge if you want to reheat it for lunch. Don't forget to check on Blue. Back around 6. Hope you feel better. Love ya.”
The thought of food made his stomach lurch threateningly. He glanced out the window into the backyard, saw that Blue was chasing her tail and barking excitedly, and holding on to a box of tissues as if it were a baby, he lumbered to the couch and collapsed, wheezing. He flicked on the TV, and promptly fell asleep.
He woke, startled, to the chant of “Je-rry, Je-rry,” and pressed the mute button in disgust. So thirsty. He looked out the window again as he filled his glass from the tap, and couldn't see the dog.
“Blue,” he croaked, his voice cracked. He sipped the water, grimacing in pain as he swallowed. “Blue,” he called again. No dog appeared. “Ah fuckit,” he muttered. Blue had recently realized she could jump the fence, and ran off almost every day. Normally he fretted about the ranger nabbing her, but today he was too sick to care. She always came home eventually.
He returned to the couch, and watched a therapeutic dose of daytime TV. A little Ricky Lake, some Days of our Lives, and he dozed again. When he blinked awake once more, the shadows outside were lengthening. He blew his nose, and added the sodden tissue to the small mountain accumulating next to the couch. He heard growling outside, and when he managed to stand up, overcome the dizziness, and walk to the window, he saw that Blue had returned, and was chewing on a grotty child-size red shoe she'd found somewhere, and growling contentedly. Great, more crap for the backyard.
Rae should be home soon. He looked forward to her sympathy and attention. She'd make him tea with honey in it, and maybe scrambled eggs. She'd tolerate his pathetic state, though she'd remind him of it once he was better.
The car pulled into the driveway, and he arranged himself on the couch, going for a noble blend of stoic and suffering. She came in, dropped a kiss on his forehead, and clucked sympathetically while she turned on the news.
“How was your day?” Dom asked hoarsely.
She made a face.
“Horrible accident, not far from here actually. Kid got hit by a truck. He came into the ER, but there was nothing they could do for the little guy. Look,” she gestured at the screen. “This is it now.”
He looked at the images – the twisted remains of a child's bicycle, a sobbing mother, a small figure on a stretcher being loaded onto an ambulance, the red shoe on his visible foot dirty and stained.
“And what was really awful,” Rae went on, “was that in the accident, one of his feet was completely severed, and the emergency services guys couldn't find it anywhere at the scene. God only knows where it went.”
She wandered into the kitchen, still talking, and he stared blankly at the TV, mouth full of bile.
“I guess I should feed Blue,” Rae said.

Actually, from the very moment someone turns their back and leaves you behind, the story has already ended forever. No matter how much you cling or how they might come back, it no longer carries any meaning to continue that old story.
The moment someone leaves—that moment is forever. It’s the conclusion of all the days before, whether they were filled with happiness or pain, youth or obsession. You must accept that truth.
Everything that happens afterward is a new chapter of life. A completely new story, and now, you are the one holding the pen to write it. So after that turning point, you must carefully think about how to write your story anew.
I remember the day you left my life, saying we wouldn’t stay in touch like before, wouldn’t go places together like we used to. It felt like my heart was etched with a deep scar. In that moment, I felt breathless, my chest ached in the way those old romance novels or Korean dramas used to describe. I used to think those stories exaggerated things—until I experienced that pain myself.
The days that followed were filled with torment and misery. I struggled to find an ending for myself, unaware that the ending had already been there all along—I just hadn’t accepted it yet.
As time passed slowly, it gave me enough clarity to look back and realize I was beginning a new chapter of my life. That person’s turning away was the permanent end to the previous story. From now on, I am the only one who gets to decide and write my new story. A blank page has been opened. Will I be the one who wallows in sorrow, endlessly longing for someone who has already left, or will I be the one hoping they’ll go far away and eventually realize my worth and return? How ridiculous it is to write my new story that way, isn’t it?
When you hold the pen of destiny in your hands, every stroke you write should bring brightness to yourself. Someone from the past who no longer cherishes you—why drag them along through the long journey ahead? That relationship might have been meaningful in its own way, or maybe they had their own struggles when making that decision. But ultimately, it still means you weren’t important enough in their life. So, in this new chapter, treat them as just another passerby from the past. No need to give them the top position they once held. No need to let them occupy every corner of your mind like before. Instead, write things that are good for yourself. Write a future where no one can cause you pain. Live a life that doesn’t depend on anyone anymore.
There will come a time when you realize how precious tears and love truly are. So save them for someone deserving—and the one most deserving is yourself.
In this new chapter, I hope you forget that old departure, the broken promises, the warmth that no longer comforts, and the sincerity that wasn’t appreciated. Leave all of that on the previous page. Moving forward, write more about happiness.

I am looking to request a certificate of cohabitation from the barangay. They require an affidavit of cohabitation from a lawyer. I do not know any lawyers around my area because I am new here. Also, I'm not sure how to ensure that that lawyers around the municipal hall are legit.
- I have searched and looked at different templates from google which usually have the following details: names, birthdate, start date of relationship, address. Is this all that is required?
- Do lawyers require both people present during notary of affidavit of cohabitation?
- How much is the usual fee for these services?
