Gaemon Targaryen was born in 214 in the shadow of his father’s failure. Although nominally king, King Aegon IV allowed the wealthy houses of the Realm to seize power in exchange for their financial support, leaving the house of the dragon in thrall to their base ambition and greed. Even as a boy, Gaemon’s blood burned with anger. Although he was half-Lannister, the “Gold Men” were the enemies he defeated in imaginary duels with sticks.
The baby of King Aegon’s issue, Gaemon strove to outshine his siblings, especially his older brother Maekar. Neither charming nor clever, Gaemon was stout, athletic, and prone to action. As squire to the famous knight Ser Quint “Lionheart” Lannister, he served in the suppression of the 231 Iron Islands rebellion, receiving his knighthood by insurgency’s end. While no legendary swordsman, he earned respect for his diligence, first to the drill yard and the last to leave. He also tempered his brew of Targaryen and Lannister arrogance, learning to care about the welfare of the ordinary rank-and-file soldiers and the sworn swords from humble backgrounds. Feeling like he had the most to prove of Aegon’s sons, he developed empathy for others who had to work hard to distinguish themselves in contrast to those born with myriad advantages.
Gaemon returned to King’s Landing to find his step-brother King Rhaegel growing more insane. He tried to manage the situation, but he was a warrior, not a diplomat able to smooth over insults and awkward scenes. Rhaegel’s son Daeron proved far more equal to administration and the niceties of court, ruling effectively in his father’s stead. Maekar, to Gaemon’s admiration, also established stewardship over Dragonstone. Still, House Targaryen faced a major crisis.
To the shock of many who knew the bawdy, brash Gaemon growing up, he joined the Kingsguard in 234, taking the white cloak. He swore never to own land, take a wife, or have children. He opted to give up any claim to the throne so he might devote himself entirely to protecting his relatives, especially Rhaegel, who Gaemon never stopped pitying despite the former’s scandalous behavior. They were never close as children, but it was traumatic watching his kin slowly lose his sanity. The Realm aside, it was like watching the old Rhaegel slowly die.
When Rhaegel took his own life in 247, it was Gaemon posted at the door to his bath who failed to notice something until it was too late. The guilt of this failure still weighs on him, even though many were glad to be rid of the mad king at last. In the few years since he has been a frequent presence at the side of the king and queen as well as their children. He shares duties training members of the royal household in combat in addition to his squires, mostly young men of “base-born” lineages who nevertheless show great promise and benefit from his patronage.
Gaemon is as concerned as anyone in the Realm about the issue of succession. He hopes Daeron may still yet produce a son and disproves Maekar's seeking to claim Dragonstone, the seat entitled to Daeron’s heir. However, he admires and respects his brother and reserves most of his mistrust for their mother, Queen Dowager Leonetta. While Lannister blood runs in his veins, Gaemon recalls the Gold Men’s disrespect of his poor father, and he takes more pride in the dragon’s blood than the lion’s. Still, he feels Maekar would be a better heir than the lazy, shiftless Aleyx of Summerhall, who is already surrounded by flatterers and connivers.
Gaemon has a complex rivalry with his nephew Aenar, pushed by Maekar to give up his birthright and join the Kingsguard. He feels like Aenar is an unwilling pawn, keen primarily to please his father, but is still a threat to the Realm’s stability. The fact that Aenar is a generational talent with a blade in addition to wielding the famed Dark Sister riles Gaemon greatly, and he cannot help but transfer his history of competition with Maekar to Maekar’s son. Still, Gaemon recognizes his jealousy is unfair and wishes no real harm to his nephew. All of this has created hostility between Gaemon and Aenar tinged with mutual respect and familial affection.

Theo’s father was a landed knight from the Westerlands killed by Ironborn marauders in 231. His mother worked as a serving girl in a Lannisport tavern. She came to Gaemon Targaryen a few years later, just after he had taken the white cloak of the Kingsguard. Gaemon had fought with Theomore’s father in several battles while Gaemon had earned his knighthood. She begged him to adopt the boy. Gaemon replied that his vows forbade children but he would consider taking him on as a page once he turned six. He deferred the issue until Theo’s mother returned with the boy four years later. For eight years, Theo acted as an attendant and messenger for Gaemon, although very soon noble families of all stripes bothered him as to why a no-account bastard should have received the honor before their sons. Gaemon would agree to their requests and mentor lads from prestigious lineages, but he spared a spot for Theo. Over the years, he has taken on other noble bastards and even the sons of famed hedge knights to be his pages and squires, but he has forged a paternal relationship only with Theo. Today, Theo is the squire Gaemon favors the most, much to the envy of his peers, but to Theo, the intense rigor of constantly cleaning armor and weapons and other chores feels only like a burden.
Theo has a passion and wildness that agitates (or complements?) Gaemon’s tendency toward stoicism and quiet dignity. While Gaemon never wishes to stray far from the royal family, Theo is eager for adventure and exploring the wider world. He is keen to be knighted but also does not want to leave Gaemon and the Red Keep, the closest thing he has to family and home. Raised in finery, he is somewhat spoiled and has a sense of entitlement, but he does realize somewhat that his status as a bastard puts him at a disadvantage. Nevertheless, he seeks to make a name for himself as a knight through virtue and hard work, not through the lottery of birth. He has no idea who his father is and has no interest either in the noble house that never claimed him or the mother who abandoned him as soon as she could. His lack of filial bonds makes it hard for him to understand why Gaemon is so deeply invested in protecting all his relatives.

please help me i moved my pins to a section on a new board and despite all 396 of them saying they were successfully moved, and the board thumbnail showing them as saved the section is empty. i’ve tried closing and reopening the app, updating my phone and the web version of pinterest . the pins still show in the thumbnail of the board, despite the pins not showing within the board. what do i do? please help me!

I’ve recently taken a couple of lessons and and can pop up pretty consistently on ankle to knee high waves. I’m loving it and I’d like to get my own board soon.
Is it worth buying my own 8ft beginner foamie or would it make more sense to keep using rentals and buy a hardtop a couple of months down the line?
Basically, is there a place for a “beginner” board in the arsenal in the long run? I’m inclined to think “yes” just on the basis it’s easier to catch waves on them when the conditions aren’t great but I don’t want to spend the cash if it ends up being quickly redundant.

2024.11.25 12:26 MonkeyMcBandwagon Anywhere I can see live market depth on MSTR today?
I only daytrade on special events, like GME day or something like a day when virgin galactic is due to launch, and I sell 2 mins before launch for a very safe 7%-20% or whatever.
I think today might be one of those days with all the tension around MSTR, or certainly leading up to it and we will have that kind of dat later this week. I dont have webull, and my brokerage doesnt show market depth, I would really like a live market depth window on MSTR today, I had one for GME when that happened, but only because someone else was streaming it, and it helped a lot (my only 6 figure days).
Also the coinglass order book does not go out past 2% but I want to be able to see the BTC sell wall at 100k, and its capping at 99.2ish at the moment whichh makes it look very deceptively green - anyone know of a site t hat shows deeper depth on BTC?
I know I really shouldn't have left it so late, but I'm in GMT+10, have been bust and just got home. Any help would be appreciated.

Quite simple. I'm a seafarer reaching port soon, and have maybe about 8 hrs on hand, late evening-early morning probably.
I want to know the best places to visit, drink/eat at - that would be more frequented by locals, and less tourists. Hopefully reasonable or cheap.
How to get around the city would also be a help. And if say I wanna move around to the port, at late hours how would that be.
I'd appreciate all the information and the best plans and such so I can enjoy the city in the time I have.

I have been a Ubuntu linux user for last 2 year now. . Ubuntu had a very good font support so that I didn't had to worry about that. But for some Driver reason I left ubuntu and using Fedora WS 41. I am very happy with it. till now my only problem is with Bengali (my native language) font.
In ubuntu I was used to using Poppins font everywhere. so I changed font in Fedora also. though it works but broke the Bengali font.
in Fedora before I change default font to -> poppins. Bengali font rendered everywhere as "Noto sans Bengali". but after changing font to poppins everywhere in browser (every browser) rendering "Charu Chandan" which is hard to read IMO.
Is there any way that I can override or explicitly define my preferred font for Bangla language ?
