I need some help with a web application stack/framework. The application is an autonomous ship, similar to a drone. The ship is the server and the application is the client. There may be multiple clients connected to the ship/server (probably fewer than a dozen clients per server).
The ship/server will send GPS truth coordinates, weather data, and multiple video feeds. The client(s) will need to display all this data and have the ability to create routes for the ship, then upload those routes to the ship/server. The client needs to be extremely responsive (30 FPS, no lag kind of deal).
The client and server communicate over a closed network which may or may not have Internet access. Because of that and speed, I assume we must store the maps (nautical charts) locally to the client. The application/client hardware will likely be a commodity laptop, but may be as low-end as a Raspberry Pi for a remote control station (still a client).
We're currently using websockets on the server side and the client uses pyside2 via Python. The existing application is very much an engineering GUI. We need to hire someone with real UI/UX experience and embedded web experience so that we have something more polished to show clients. But of course, I need to know what to write for the job description.
Can anyone recommend a good framework/architecture with this in mind, and what you would write for the job description? Please let me know if you need more information or have other questions.

2024.11.25 12:20 Builda On the fence with the purchase of a WT1. What is your experience?
I've been comparing washer-dryers for a while, and with Black Friday deals looming the top-of-the-line WT1 is what I'm looking at (800-70 in Switzerland = WTW870WPM in Germany), along with a top-of-the-line Bosch Series 8, which is newer seems to have better specs. I'm upgrading from a 20 years old washer dryer from Miele.
What is your experience with that Miele? Pros and cons? Would you recommend the Bosch instead? any feedback welcome !

Hey there! I'm 27 and I'm living it up in Finland. I'm 183cm currently at 83kg (working on getting ripped again), straight blonde hair, if it matters.
I crunch code for a living and like to hit the gym after that to forget about the whole day of just sitting on my ass.
Summer's great here but winter's another story, so my eyes are set on warmer places during those cold months. Canaries, anyone?
When I'm not being a tech wizard, I enjoy chillin' while listening to podcasts (Lex Fridman is the G.O.A.T.), sunbathing, cycling, working out, plus watching TV series/movies. Also, I do enjoy the occasional gaming session (I used to play a ton, not so much these days; maybe I'd play more with a player 2?).
Personality-wise, I'm a bit of a paradox. I'm pretty outgoing when I'm in the mood, but I also have my introverted moments.
Health, fitness, and self-improvement are kinda my thing. How can you love someone if you can't love yourself, right?
I don't mind long-distance relationships as long as you're willing to meet at some point. But what am I looking for? Someone with a similar vision, maybe with a job that can be done remotely (or aspiring for it) and/or with a flexible schedule (extra points if you're self-employed!).
Some deal-breakers for me are people who smoke, not taking care of yourself (now and forever). But, a tech interest? That's a definite yes, lol. And artists with a free spirit, I find we usually vibe pretty well. Age preference would be within the 20-36 range.
I'm a bit eccentric, and I'm super competitive. But I've got your back if you're important to me :)

Hi,
Is it possible to be unavailable for work if you’re in zero hour contract? Because normally there is a legal provision where employers must ask you a time in advance to work. Do you always have to say yes if you’re not available? What if you want to go to sabbatical/unpaid leave for a month and the employer is not approving? Can you just say no when you’re asked to work for this duration?

2024.11.25 12:20 Mantoux Help me out with non independent factories and low throughput trains
So, after spaghetting my way through phase 3 with a couple big mixed-production factories and a single sushi train line, I got to phase 4 and saw I wouldn't be able to do it without changing my approach.
I decided I would do separate factories for every component, without sharing nodes, with expandable modular layouts. Each factory has two or three stations for inputs and output and is connected to a main mega-trainline that spans through half of the map.
To keep logistics simple, I have a single train with one or two freight cars per product. So for example the "Plastic Express" loads at the Plastic factory which produces 900/min and unloads at the circuit board factory, at the computer factory, at the super computer factory, etc. I've assumed that if the input is higher than the required plastic everything should eventually fill up and work as intended. Like manifolds. So my first question would be:
- Is this reasoning right? I really struggle to get my head around train throughput.
- Will it fill up, over time, even if it takes 30h running in the background? I think it should, but I'm not sure if there is something I am not seeing regarding the time it takes to do a round trip or the configuration of the stops.
For the new ones (supercomps, radio control units, heat sinks, cooling systems, etc..) what I did is account for some extra production (2-10 items/minute) at each factory, and set an overflow for when the stations are full to my dimensional depot. So, if for example I'm producing 2 supercomputers and spending one sending it to the director system factory, eventually my own container with the depot should fill up. This is what I did with manifolds with items from previous tiers and it works ok. But now it seems to take FOREVER, I understand that because the receiving station and its buffer must fill up, and then the producing station and its buffer, and only then the DD starts receiving items (and I'm not sure it will ever do at production rates of 2/min).
- So, is there a better solution for this?

 | I was ablte to get hold of this beautiful Certina DS-4 on an online auction for 99 USD. No service information, but runs well for the age of the watch. (40-60 seconds fast per day, of course I will take it to a service.) Reference number: 854 1430 41 The reason why I’m reaching out is that I was unable to find any reasonable infromation on this specific reference, and somebody might able to help me out. I found a site called vintagecertinas.ch which has the specifications for this movement, and they have some catalogs scanned on the site as well, but I was unable to find this exact reference in any catalogs. The 1977 Dealer’s Brochure has a reference called 854 1410 41, but it has only DS printed on the dial, not DS-4. The next catalog scanned is from 1980, and that has a 738 1430 41 reference as DS-4 but that’s a quartz watch. So my best guess is that this watch could be made in between 1978 and 1980. If you have any other infromation about vintage Certina DS-4 watches, and how those are different from the DS and DS-2 watches, please let me know in the comments. Thanks.
