Hey there folks, Iāll try and ignore the urge to start this out by saying something trite and clichĆ©d like ālong time lurker, first time poster.ā Truth is, I just found this place today so I figured Iād put pen to paper (so to speak) and see if I could get any assistance.
At any rate, Iām a 51-year-old marketing executive living in the D.C. area. Been happily married for nearly 15 years. Iāve been working from home since 2012 so, you know, Covid was something Iād been training for when it hit! Kidding aside, itās nice to not have to deal with traffic, working in my gym clothes and the like. But itās also given way to me drinking more often and earlier than Iād done previously. My wife, a nurse, started working from home around Covid time and, well, letās just say that sheās adopted some similar habits.
I wonāt make excuses, but I will say that we both know our limits. Weāre both successful in our jobs, we get along, etc. we justā¦like to drink and with both of us at home (and her kids, my stepsons) out of the house ā thereās no reason for us to try and slow down. But we need to.
I work out 6x a week, I donāt smoke, keep myself in great shape, we eat a good diet and so forth. Iāve been monitoring my blood with my doctor, liver enzymes are a bit elevated, but nothing sheās concerned about. I havenāt been sleeping well either - so I blame the wine.
My point being, and yes, Iām sorry it took me so long to finally arrive at one, isā¦how do (we) start to break the habit? I mean, yeah, itās easy to say āOk, Iām only going to have (insert number of drinks) today.ā Some days I do it, othersā¦not so much. Cannabis is legal in my state, and I keep getting Facebook ads for edibles that say āKick the alcohol habit, try these insteadā and so on. Iāve had this discussion with my wife as well and she agrees, yet we play off one another. Thatās to say if she sees me with a glass of wine around 12-1PM, sheāll have one. Rinse/repeat every couple hours and there ya go.
Thereās an old saying that goes āif you have problems when you drink, you have a drinking problem.ā Well, I think Iāve used that as fuel since I donāt have problems when I drink. To summarize my life:
- I donāt āwake up with a drinkā, I donāt even think about it in the A.M. hours
- I donāt have any DUIās
- I donāt slap my wife around
- Iām successful at my job (as is she)
- As mentioned above, I keep myself in great shape
- Iāve got a great relationship with my wife/family
Weāre going on a cruise next week and our drink package was more than the room (though, granted, they gave us our room for free ā we just had to pay taxes on it). I thought about going to a Bill W. meeting as theyāve got them on the cruise line.
Soā¦thatās about it. I think that since Covid hit there are most likely others out there like me. I was in the liquor store not too long ago and told the guy I worked from home, to which he responded āI could never do that. Iād start drinking at 9 in the morning.ā Iām not there and I donāt want to be.
Looking for some advice, feedback, whatās worked for you, do these āditch the alcohol pillsā work and so forth.
Iād like to get in a place where Iām drinking maybe 2-3 drinks/day ā maximum. I figure if I can establish that as a new bar, itāll be easier for me to taper down, take a day off from time to time.
Open to any all ideas/suggestions and hopefully I did this correctly. If not, it made me feel good to write it.

I currently do an opposed check of Streetwise (for my bounty hunter) using their best Agi/Stealth for the difficulty. Should it be Streetwise for the difficulty as well, and their worst stat? 2024.11.25 13:30 blackvelvetstars How are people dealing with anxiety around food and nausea?
With my first pregnancy that ended in MMC, I followed all the rules around what you can and can't eat. I started feeling nauseous at week 7, after my first "inconclusive scan", so I naively thought that the nausea was a good thing, and maybe the 2nd scan would be good news.
Now I've just hit 6 weeks pregnant and been feeling nausea off and on since about 5w3d. I'm still following all the rules about not eating anything you're not supposed to but as the nausea is so much stronger and earlier this time, I can't help worrying all the time that it's actually the start of food poisoning or worrying that I mistakenly ate something I shouldn't have.
Does anyone have any comforting words or advice for keeping sane with all the food rules and the nausea?
