 | I’ve had good experiences with Staedtler sharpeners in the past, specifically the old screw top style. A few months ago, I switched to a KUM Glass jar after reading through some reviews and truth be told, I was not impressed. This past weekend, I stumbled across this Staedtler Noris sharpener at a local art supply store. I figured I’d give Staedtler another go. The Mitsubishi pictured was fresh out of the box two days ago, this is what I am down to as of this morning. This sharpener is crazy aggressive, removing a lot wood with each turn. Basically, in the US and other Western countries, criminal organizations and families are usually separate from politics/the state, though they may influence it. In the Philippines, criminal organizations/families often ARE the state, political dynasties, etc. Why don't we have that separation?
I asked a similar question to this before, about why we have no big or known criminal families like the Mafia/Mob in other countries, and so many of the answers are "because that is what the political dynasties are, they are already in government," etc. That's an easy answer and observation, but why is it that case and is there a historical reason why it became that way, for us?
But it makes little sense. Or maybe makes a lot, I don't know. The people who make the laws and enforce them are the ones who also break them.

Laptop: MSI Vector 16 HX A14VHG
As the title suggests, after an update, the display initially turned completely white, making it nearly impossible to read any text (as shown in the picture). I tried connecting the laptop to an external display to adjust some settings, and the screen temporarily returned to normal. However, when I unplugged the external display, the screen’s color became darker. After restarting, the issue reappeared, just like in the picture.
Currently, I need to repeatedly plug in and unplug the external display to make the screen visible. I have reinstalled both the Intel and NVIDIA graphics drivers, but the problem persists. Anyone know how to fix it? 😕

I’ll try to be as concise as possible, I’m sorry if this gets a bit long.
My end goal is to be managing funds, I have a deep rooted passion for investing, that’s originated straight from my school days. I’m hoping for some sort of an analyst position to start with.
My background is -
-> Great leadership tracked record through a T10 school
-> founded ed tech startup in final month of school catering to education through the lockdown
-> startup was getting a lot of noise so I chose a decent undergrad with a degree in business instead that took the least amount of time so I could focus on the startup
-> development issues followed by funding constraints led to it taking too long to build, pandemic went away by the time we completed, had to shutter it pre revenue
-> couldn’t do any internships or focus on academics due to the startup
-> Now I’m out of uni, couldn’t find a job so I’m studying for the GRE followed by the CFA exam
-> I want to leave my home country as fast as I can, but I don’t want to put myself in a position where I’ve completed a masters but can’t find a job because I don’t have any relevant work experience
-> Should I continue looking for jobs and accept anything that comes my way, work for a year, and then apply for a masters, or would I be safe directly going ahead with a masters at say a T10 Uni in London and then looking for a job in AM

Hi I'm currently in prospect about changing my faith from Hinduism into some other religion and I been reading some old discarded prayer books that a classmate has stored in his home. He gave me one out of a request I made that was used for Catholic religious service gatherings (or whatever they call it in this specific religion).
Throughout the prayer book there is and R and a V tat teh start of some statements and it seems to rotate throughout prayers. I'm wondering what do these stand for?
In addition I was told these prayer books are meant to be used in groups during the sermons on the weekly gatherings. I'm not yet converted and am still officially a Hindu on government records but as I read through the prayer book and even try to recite it out loud, I'm wondering is the way I'm doing it wrong? Do I have to have another person or maybe even a group to use the prayer book? Or can Catholics (maybe other Christians even) just use the entire book for solitary worship?

2024.11.25 15:50 Academic-Ad8963 I was gone for 3 weeks and returned to a bug-infested house.
I've been living with my room-mate and friend from college for about a year. Things have been going well so far, she's nice, understanding, and it's also great that we are in the same university. However, I've always noticed how she is pretty messy, as she rarely cleans up after herself. Her room is also very messy with clothes and stuff lying about.
I'm always the one taking the trash out and I do all the big house cleans because I actually like doing it, but I also know she won't do it.
I have a few months vacation, and decided to travel for almost a month. I wasn't really considering or thinking about the fact that she would be the responsible one in the house, because to me, this is a given as we are both in our mid-twenties.
Long story short, about a week into my vacation she texts me and says the kitchen is infested with these tiny flying bugs (not fruit flies) and blames it on some storm that happened recently. She claimed they were probably hiding from the weather (?). Anyways, I was sceptical from the beginning and immediately suspected that she was just horrible at cleaning after herself and that's actually how they got there.
During my time away she updates me on the situation and it gets gradually WORSE. they're everywhere, in her room, the kitchen, bathroom, on the walls, dead on the floor, flying around.... I told her with concern that she had to call pest control as this is a clear infestation. She refused and insisted she could handle it.
She cleaned everything, and by the time I got back, things seemed to be somewhat under control. However, I've been back for a few days and I'm noticing them in my bed, on my desk, on the walls in my room and I'm feeling SO paranoid. I can't sleep properly because I'm always feeling something crawling and I'm just so disgusted.
I have no idea what to do. I'm not a confrontational person and there's no use in getting angry now. She cleaned thoroughly but the problem is still prominent and it's really bothering me.
How do I handle this situation?

I'm 24 years old and starting a physics degree after facing numerous financial challenges. I wanted to pursue engineering, but I couldn’t get selected, and the delays have made me feel like I'm too old to pursue my dreams. On top of that, my country doesn't have a space program or rocket development industry. Given my age and the limitations of my environment, I'm feeling uncertain about whether I can still work toward becoming a rocket scientist.
Is it still possible to achieve this goal, or should I consider other paths? I would really appreciate any advice, especially from anyone who's gone through a similar journey or knows about working in aerospace in a country without a major space program.

My in-laws did a nice thing and bought us a dishwasher (and installation) from Home Depot. It got delivered (to my living room) pretty quickly, but it took 3+ months to get it actually installed.
3 things really make it a terrible dishwasher:
1) It is a “smart” appliance, which means that you can’t change the settings without connecting it to your Bosch online account via an app. The app design is trash, and it seems like only one person’s phone can be connected to the settings. Is there way around this?!?!?!?!?
2) everything that comes out of this infernal machine smells like chemicals and soap residue.
3) it doesn’t clean the damn dishes. Every single cup, dish, and utensil has to be handwashed after it runs through this hunk of garbage. Our 20 year old dishwasher was 100x better. What the hell???
Evidently this is the standard experience with Bosch dishwashers. Why?????

Hi! I’m looking for advice on how to handle a debt sent to collections.
I just received a call from a debt collector for $882 on a credit card I had opened and completely forgot about. To my knowledge, I wasn’t ever notified of any late payments or anything. I’ve received a letter in the mail for a debt collections and thought it was fake. However, I just received a phone call from the collector and was on a recorded line. It is the debt collection agency calling and contacting me, not the original lender. It’s already been ~4 years since the credit account was closed by the original lender and sent to collections.
My question is how should I go about handling the debt? I have the funds to pay it off in full now but only if I can have the negative impact removed from my report. Just last week when looking at financing a new car, it showed negatively on my report but was the only negative…and barely that (I’m currently at 815). Today, I asked the collector to do a Pay to Delete or if the lender could, and was told I would have to contact the lender directly to negotiate that since all the collector does is “report”. If they don’t, should I even pay it since after 7 years it won’t be on my report anymore?
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciate!
