2024.11.25 21:41 kleosailor Left handed child, I need advice.
My 4yo has been very obviously left handed since the age of 2. But I often see her switching between her left hand and right hand when doing different tasks. For example she draws with the left hand but eats with the right hand like 50% of the time.
I know that until kids are 6 or so they can act pretty ambidextrous. But it's gotten to the point where I don't think it's age related anymore and I think she may truly be ambidextrous.
My boyfriend wants to force her to use just one hand for EVERYTHING. But the pediatrician said not to force her to use one hand, but to ask her which hand she wants to use and then tell her to continue to use the hand she chose until the task is complete. For example if she sits down for dinner I ask her if she wants to use her right or left and then she chooses which one. Then she's supposed to use the hand she chose until her dinner is gone, and the next time she eats she can choose the opposite hand if she so wishes.
My boyfriend thinks that this will delay her development or fine motor skills, and he refuses to accept the slightest possibility that she may be ambidextrous because he thinks it's bad. He also thinks she's just lazy and uses her right hand when her left arm gets tired? Which I think is weird that he even thinks that because I never did that as a child, I don't think being a left makes her any different than me in that light.
I guess for you left handed people, what worked for you as a child? Being forced to use one hand? Having the freedom to choose?
Are any of you left dominant ambidextrous or truly ambidextrous? And same questions for you, what worked best for you? Did you parents force you to choose one? Was it better for you to just have the freedom to use which hand felt natrual?

Lately, I'm finding myself in a very fortunate position in which I'm starting to see someone who may actually be good for me. He has been a platonic friend for a long time, and we finally gave each other a chance. He is actually mentally stable and healthy, very caring, he doesn't make me feel rushed or pressured, we have good chemistry, and we have already built a friendship/caring platonic love beforehand. We're very much falling in love, there is no rush to throw a label on things since we both just got out of long shitty relationships. But I am definitely considering having a label conversation soon. I have an anxious attachment style, and he actually doesn't trigger any of my anxiety in that way. I feel safe, wanted, and loved with him. I think he would be a great partner for me.
HOWEVER. I have some major baggage which is making me feel terrible.
I spent basically my whole adolescence/young adulthood up until now (24F) in an extremely abusive relationship, which started when I was 16. It finally fully ended less than a year ago when he moved out in February. (We were living together while broken up for like a year, but still, he has only fully exited my life less than a year ago)
And to make matters worse, I got into a classic situationship literal weeks after he moved out back in March. A very attractive super tattooed and pierced guy (B) who works in the same industry as me. It was the classic love-bomb, then switch to "I just have a lot on my plate right now" "I'm just really busy with work" hot and cold, mixed signals, sudden switch-up (which dragged on for MONTHS), rather than a clear ending of things. But, we had a really good time together for the short time we were seeing each other. He was the first person I've had sex with since my ex, and it was the first time I actually enjoyed sex and didn't feel gross or pressured. I have a lot of old wounds and trauma surrounding sex.
I unfortunately cannot get him out of my head. I think because I got involved with him way too soon after my ex moved out, I didn't have time to process anything or heal, and I developed a very unhealthy anxious attachment to him. We were both very unhealed, and it was ROUGH. I think if I'd had more dating experience under my belt, this would not have meant so much to me and it wouldn't have hurt so bad. But he was my only other experience other than my abusive ex. I was also extremely attracted to him, and we had really hot and emotionally connected sex (TMI, but important). I grieved the potential of that relationship for WAY longer than I was in it, it honestly fucked me up really bad. The way he just suddenly stopped caring about me and stopped wanting to see me, hurt a lot and contributed to self esteem issues. I was super depressed about it and lived in a confused, sad haze for like 6 months. Now, I recognize the reality of the situation, I know we won't end up together and he is not "meant" for me, we obviously no longer talk, I don't want him anymore. How he handled things fucking sucked.
But still, sometimes I think back to the good times we had together, and sometimes his face or his voice pops up in my head. I think the fact that we work in the same niche industry (Luckily, not the same physical location. I'm speaking very vaguely to not expose the industry itself) exacerbates this problem sometimes. I think back to the (fake) potential, the false promises. I unfortunately still flash back to the times we had sex, unintentionally. Again, it meant a lot to me due to my past. The sex was unfortunately really good because he was experienced and I wasn't. This makes me feel absolutely terrible because I'm seeing someone amazing, the sex is good with him too, and my stupid brain won't get this other guy out of my head fully.
My question is, is this normal? Have I just not given it enough time? Does everyone think back on their exes like this, even if they're with someone way better? Is this a product of having anxious attachment, and having been abused (physically, sexually, and emotionally) in the past?
Because I could be making a problem out of nothing if this is relatively normal. I'm very inexperienced with dating due to my long high school relationship. I'm not afraid to delay putting a label on the thing that's growing with this new person (C), but I'm not sure if that's even necessary. I've vented a lot in the past about B to C while everything was happening, since C and I were genuine platonic friends for a long time. C gave me really good advice from a male perspective. He knows everything that happened and how it affected me, and was there for me when I needed to vent or needed help of any kind.

I've gone through all the past posts and nothing has fixed it. What I've done to troubleshoot so far:
- Different Bluetooth devices: It happens no matter the device, I've tried 3 different speakers and all of them have the same issue.
- Different input devices: Playing from my iPhone or tablet works absolutely fine
- Disabled/Uninstalled drivers and devices and hidden devices in device manager
- Turned off audio enhancement
- Followed audio troubleshooter
