Trying to figure out a simple way to repair this without removing the whole bannister. I have the top piece and was able to remove it and fix the pins/staples in the bannister hole. My thought is to set of some wood soft clamps angle from the spindles above and below the broken one and glue to piece of the broken spindle onto the bottom piece. Then use the clamps to hold it in place until the glue sets. Then sand the glue set area and repaint. Any other suggestions or ideas are quite welcome.

My husband and I are close to 60, and we’ve lived in a fixer upper house for 11 years…the reno is all finished, and it is a nice place. He just inherited quite a lot of money, and we saw a nicer place we really liked that would be lovely to settle into for retirement. Without selling our house, we can buy the other larger house sans mortgage if we use some savings/inheritance. It will mean however having to be more careful for a few months whilst we are waiting for our house to sell. He still will work a while, so this isn’t really problem. This makes me a little nervous though, and I’m starting to wonder due to our age if it is better just to stick to our smaller place. we don’t have anyone we are leaving our money to, as we have no kids/family. Is it a bad idea to buy a slightly *bigger* place with more land for retirement, or should be stay put or even downsize?

I am getting a 7x7ish train track to go around my christmas tree. I have my tree skirt which is probably around 2x2. I will also have presents wrapped in the open spaces and eventually different christmas village structures, which I'll add to each year. What can I use on the ground to make it all look white? Is something as simple as a white table cloth or 2 good enough? Or does anyone have a recommended link to something better. Ideally in a 7x7 shape or would I stack pieces back to back? What do other folks do? thank you!

I want to learn Chinese as fast as possible using the least time possible. Comprehensible input seems great, but it requires a lot of hours. The problem with standard anki is that you will only see certain words or phrases, meaning you don't get everything you get through watching movies/tv series. Would only using ANKI with cards being tv series clips with subtitles, then tv series clips without subtitles before finally using only audio be an efficient method for leaning a language assuming you don't get bored? What would the downsides of this approach be?
TLDR: Use only ANKI video clips for langauge learning, no standard movie watching comprehensible input: What are the downsides?
