Hello, I am a software engineer and I am considering purchasing a Lenovo laptop. I am unsure of which model would be the best fit for my needs. I am looking for a laptop that is powerful enough to run local machine learning models and handle tasks with large coding projects, but also portable and has a long battery life. Additionally, I would like a laptop that does not overheat easily. Good overall in all aspects, speakers, touchpad, keyboard, etc.. I would appreciate any recommendations you may have.

Hi, I work in the NHS, and have just been offered a position in a completely different field (Contract signed - haven't done anything naughty or criminal so background checks will be all clear).
As part of the screening process, my new employers are now asking for references, but I believe this is less of a "we want to hear good things about him" and more of a "prove that he actually worked here". Now, I'm currently signed off sick from my current position due to extreme stress caused by the job, which is also the reason why I've applied for this new job in the first place.
My current managers are under the impression that I intend to return to my current role and so they're going to discuss with me tomorrow how we can proceed (e.g how can they support me in this job, or what's going to be good for me).
Now, the issue I'm facing is that I'm currently living paycheck to paycheck, as it were. My new job begins early next year and so there would be a 2 week period (4 weeks notice period) in which I won't be working and thereby won't be getting paid for; I essentially need this money.
But I also don't want to pretend to be eager to going back to work here (I simply can't do this job anymore - only perhaps in an extremely reduced role) as I feel it would be leading them on (e.g "I'm hoping I will be well enough to come back in the new few weeks; I definitely haven't got another job lined up") and going against my personal morals.
Thoughts? I could strike a balance and perhaps hand in my notice and sacrifice a weeks worth of wages, but that would be pushing it for my personal finances.

Hey all, I'm replacing all of the smoke alarms for my inlaws and there is one hardwired spot that immediately triggers the rest of the devices to sound as soon as the alarm is installed. Would this be a miswiring issue or something else? I've tried two different hardwired Kiddie detectors and both result in the same behavior. None of the others set off the entire system when connected in. Trying to avoid having to call an electrician if possible. Thanks!

So apparently there are companies that give you shares, or fractions of their shares with every purchase of their products?
I conceived very briefly of such a thing a long while ago, and quickly brushed it off as illegal, but now apparently it's legal and happening in the real world.
Apparently it's considered a rebate so thats what makes it legal.
Still, sounds like it should be illegal, a form of market manipulation akin to share buybacks, which used to be illegal.
Thoughts?

I am interested in purchasing some pieces of steel armor to wear to places like the renaissance faire, etc., and figured this group might have some good insights.
I know options like Renaissance Wax are popular, but I am hesitant to spend the $30 on such a small container when I'm already over budget in the armor pieces I want to get (which are already the cheapest versions of them I can find from a reputable seller).
Would I be able to use a cheaper alternative, like a protective automotive wax/lubricant made for steel? If I have to spend 3x the cost on the Renaissance Wax, I will, because I don't want the pieces I'm spending hundreds of dollars on to get ruined, but if there's a cheaper and similar option, I'd love to know!
If it's helpful, I'd be storing the pieces in a tote container in a storage unit in my climate-controlled garage.

I was diagnosed with hashimotos around 4 years ago due to antibodies in my bloodwork. I’ve always heard that hashimotos is genetic, I just had genetic testing done for other reasons, but I only had one mutation come up and it was associated with heart issues, not thyroid. Is it still possible for me to have hashimotos or do you think I was misdiagnosed? Unfortunately I don’t have exact numbers from my bloodwork and Google is not giving me any answers

The process of training to become a pastor is rough. It requires a lot of school, debt, and time. Then there is the ever shrinking pool of churches to serve. I've been thinking a lot about this lately and I'm wondering if there could be some cheap way of training those whom God has called to serve. I wonder if there could be some sort of Khan Academy but for seminary maybe? I'm not sold on it though. Anyone have ideas about how to make the vocation more accessible?

Short women have had it too good for too long. Sure, they may be cute, but they can’t measure up to the allure a tall woman has. It’s high time that they receive the appreciation they truly deserve!
Hard to put a finger on where my attraction to taller women began, but it probably derives from when I discovered how captivating long legs could be. As a certified leg man, I’d pick legs over boobs or butts any day (they’re nice too though, don’t get me wrong!). Shorter women may have nice legs, but who would have longer, finer legs but taller women? I promise I wouldn’t be solely into you for your legs, but thought I’d add this description just to show where I’m coming from.
As for me, I’m not as vertically gifted as other men. I stand at a solid 5’9, which is both too short to be tall, yet too tall to be a short king. I don’t let me stature stop me from appreciating and marveling women around my height or taller. In fact, I see it as a plus! Where some men would feel emasculated by a woman even approaching his height, I revel in the difference.
Looking for a good conversation today to pass the time. Do you like your height? Are heels your favorite or overkill? Play basketball? Tired of people asking if you play basketball?

A bit confused, sorry. My plan ends soon and I'm not quite sure whether I need a plan or not.
I currently have 3 outdoor cameras and I mainly use them whenever they detect motions. So watching clips is what I mainly use the cameras for.
Do these clips get saved on my phone if the subscription plan ends? I know I can save via USB but I travel a lot so watching them on my phone is most convenient. So can I watch clips on my phone without a plan?
