2024.11.26 01:30 twinmamabear2022 Feel like an awful parent, the guilt and grief is eating me alive.
So let me start by saying my son is not diagnosed yet, he is on the waiting list to be evaluated (hopefully will be done in January) but I just know. The constant vocal stims, movement stims, like repetitive clapping or hitting things, arm flaps, etc, non-verbal, lining of things, walking on toes, picky eater, etc the list goes on. He is also a twin which it is more common in twins.
I have hit this deep depth of grief and anger and sadness which makes me feel like such a bad mother. It's not that I am angry at him. I am angry that he is going to have to fight just to be understood, that people and other kids will judge him or not know him as well as I do, angry wondering whether he will ever talk, and grieving the life we and him could have had.
Like I said, I am hitting a wall of hopelessness that makes it feel like there's no light at the end of the tunnel. I think more than anything I am angry at myself for that, and feeling like it's my fault.
What kind of mother am I if I am internally giving up hope?
Please help.

I wasn’t sure who else to tell but I thought this might be a short little story for Reddit from what I just witnessed.
So it’s Monday and slow so I’m sitting in our office watching the cameras when this red car speeds into the lot and swings hard into a parking space. I genuinely thought this guy was going to go onto the sidewalk from how fast he pulled in. The guest comes up and says he has a reservation. From just him speaking I can smell the beer on his breath. Instant wtf. And he was the driver! So check in goes smoothly and I get him all sent to his room but the fact that I smelt beer on him after witnessing him driving that fast has me a bit concerned for the passengers and dog he had.
Different day: A car pulls up in our car park and two guys get out. From inside I hear a loud squawk but can’t see where it could have come from. The two guys come in looking for directions (cell service is bad in our spot for Tree-Nobile) and one of the guys has a red thing in his jacket zipped up a bit. It was a fucking bird. We had a whole conversation about it and I got a cool few pictures and videos. Scared the crapped out of me but super cool.

This might be an off topic question, Just recently I spent some time in europe working on a house I purchased and after installing drywall.. I found out that most mud materials like the USG sheetrock joint compound that’s premixed doesn’t exist over there … most caulk is absolute trash quality and there’s no such thing as semi-gloss, gloss, or satin paints … most are just flat… overall the paints were terrible quality. There was also no such thing as plywood, hardie board.
Even most drywall we installed had to be installed on aluminum beams since 2x4s don’t exist.
Are there regulations that prevent import of these materials? I just can’t see why companies like USG wouldn’t expand to that market.

2024.11.26 01:30 TheWhiteKnight Need a presentation strategy to onboard a remote team into a not unreasonably messy codebase, focusing on the engine that drives this massive application.
I only have a few days to whip something together, travel to, and present it to them. It's not a big official thing but more of a meet and greet. The goal for me is to give them an overview of the framework at say a 100 foot level. Will likely use Powerpoint but I'd love alternatives.
By "focusing no the engine" mentioned in the title, I mean the few HOCs, hooks, redux and core React components that make the behavior paradigms of the application "just work". Stuff they won't need to touch much but are good to know, if not only to help them not feel like they're working inside a giant black box.
Veterans on the existing team will deal with most of the boilerplate touching these lower level components. The remote team will focus on the new stuff that sits on top.
Most importantly, we don't want them having to learn our entire framework to get some POCs out the door.
I'm considering putting code snippets next to UI screenshots to convey basics that can be described that way. But for things where that doesn't fit, I'd hate to have only blobs of code and paragraphs of text be the strategy. Maybe I'm stuck with that. Will likely need some flow diagrams even though I hate reading them and find them only partially illuminating. Everything ties to UI behavior so my goal is to convey things visually as much as possible.
Is there go-to software that does better than Powerpoint for this? Something works with gifs/videos of UI behavior? And am I not thinking of a another strategy? I can spend a few hours on it. I can definitely get screenshots and code snippets done in that time.
