Hey there all. I've dabbled in Linux since the early days of Ubuntu and even some Mint as well, but with Microsoft going off the deep end with Windows 11 lately I decided to go full Linux.
I've settled on Debian for a change from Ubuntu/Mint and it's been amazing. Had a few problems with Wine and Steam, but fixed by just using Wine in Debian repo and Steam flatpak.
Debian is now my daily driver and goto OS for the forseeable future. Debian is love, Debian is life.

 | Hi everyone, I am writing this because idk who else I would be able to tell this to. So, I am a PhD student in material science. I am focusing on computational thermodynamics and kinetics. So anyways, an idea popped in my head while I was surfing the web. I was wondering if anyone has combined topology with thermodynamics. Well, surprise someone has and it’s none other than Gibbs himself. Other people have done it and honestly it’s pretty interesting. People have tried combining graph theory and geometry of polyhedra also. I just thought it was an interesting exploration. All the math kinda went over my head even if I have a BS in applied math. Learning about this makes me want to take more math courses so I can understand this. Honestly, it is super interesting and I wonder if I could use this in my research. Like different formulations of the same problem and then solving that. Firstly, I am actually not mad at myself. I feel like I did what I “needed” (wanted) to do and got a solid reminder of a few of the reasons I started this journey.
The following may be triggering as it is an account of how I stumbled:
Saturday night I went out with friends. At that point I was over 70 days sober and had gone out to bars several times without drinking and still had fun. For some reason on this night I decided to test myself - we were hanging at a friend’s apartment before we left for the bar and of course folks were casually drinking, and I was offered wine. I had probably 3 glasses of wine there, then got a drink when we got to the bar because why not? That drink turned into 3, which included a Diet Coke I’d gotten to pace myself that I ended up accepting a nip from someone in, and those 3 drinks didn’t include the 3 free shots I was given (cause how am I gonna turn down a free shot?).
I had fun and nothing bad happened, but I stayed out way later than I would’ve if I’d been sober and woke up with a gnarly hangover that disrupted my day and made it so I couldn’t get things done that I wanted to. So I was reminded that, no, I don’t know how to limit myself when I’m drinking, I get fucking awful hangovers and I fucking hate feeling like that.
I know the answer is to stay 100% alcohol free but there is still part of me that wants to be able to enjoy a glass of wine with a steak, ya know? But then there’s that part of me that wants an excuse to party and be messy, too. Idk man. Wish I was normal lol. Anyway, day 2. Let’s make it past 70-whatever this time.

2024.11.26 03:30 Green_dog144 Craziest thing I've witnessed in 9 years of trucking
A couple of years ago I'm heading west on the I-10 passing Coachella at night.
About half a mile ahead in my lane I see a dry van truck with a strange black figure on the doors of the back of the van.
Thinking it's a painting or something written like letters most trucks have, I have it no big thought until getting closer.
Upon getting close enough to see what it actually was I discover, IT'S A FREAKING MAN HOLDING ONTO THE DOORS FOR DEAR LIFE!!
I change lanes to the left and increase my speed until I'm right next to the guy and we make eye contact through my passenger window.
He was a 20-30 skinny looking Asian dude who immediately starting making gestures that he needed the truck to stop.
With one hand still holding onto the door, he started pointing to the front of the truck and then started squatting and letting one for drag onto the road.
At this point, I noticed a van pull up close to the guy while tailgating the truck. My first thought was, Oh my God these guys are gonna try to save him by letting him jump onto the hood of their car but sadly this was not the case.
I look into the window of the van and see a man and woman LAUGHING as the woman in the passenger seat records the poor guy on her phone.
I immediately sped up to be next to the truck driver, started honking my air horn like crazy to get his attention and started making gestures about the chaos going on to the rear of his vehicle.
The trucker looked at me confused but did not slow down. I was forced to speed up again and merge in front of him and turned on my hazard lights while continuing to honk my horn.
I saw through my mirrors that the trucker finally got the message and turned on his hazards as well and started pulling over.
God knows how long this crazy bastard had been holding onto this truck going at least 60mph on a bumpy highway.
I'm sure that's the last time he'll try to hitch a free ride that way 😂
Still the wildest moment after 9 years of trucking.

Hey, I could really use some support right now. I’ve been waiting for my green card, and my situation has taken a really tough turn. I got married a year ago to a wonderful person who is ten years younger than me. For a while, everything seemed great, but unfortunately, I discovered that she was cheating on me with someone closer to her age. It feels like she was looking for someone to lean on, and it really broke my heart.
It’s been three months since we parted ways, and I just found out that she’s pregnant. I've been seeing a psychologist to help me work through my feelings and move on, but it's still really challenging. Right now, I’m anxiously preparing for the USCIS interview, and I’m worried about what might happen since we’re no longer together. I hope they don’t question our relationship too much, as I’ve worked so hard to make a life here. The thought of going back is really frightening for me.
If anyone has been through something similar or has advice on what I should do, I would really appreciate your thoughts. Thank you
