2024.11.26 06:30 jeanneleez Moving to a new flat.
We are moving from Singapore to Chicago and purchased a flat in the East Hyde Park neighborhood in August. We won’t be moving in until December 23rd. Since August I have been sending packages of things I’ve ordered online such as linens, small knickknacks, pillow covers, etc., probably two or three packages a week. Apparently a king size comforter set came in a very large box and was heavy and I got a sternly worded email from the property manager. So I’ve slowed down the packages.
I’ve been looking online at furniture to purchase and found a few things on Wayfair that seemed pretty nice. I contacted them to tell them I wanted to schedule delivery for after Christmas and what the process would be. They told me to pay for the premium delivery package that includes assembly and it will be fine. Happy, I went online, set the assembly date and paid for the items - two large bookcases and six dining chairs.
I get the order confirmation by email shortly after. I notice that the shipping date is NOVEMBER 26, not December 26. Only the assembly is scheduled for then. Panicked, I immediately emailed them back to delay the shipping date. Wayfair emails back a day later and says it’s a FedEx problem at this point. I don’t have a tracking number and neither does Wayfair. By the time Wayfair sends me a tracking number the next day, the shipment is already in Chicago according to FedEx.
I emailed the property manager and the door staff to warn them and apologize. I get fined $353.00 and told it’s not the doorman’s job to haul a whole bunch of furniture to the 20th floor. I’m horrified. This is just a small couple of pieces of furniture. I have a whole shipping container coming from Singapore later in December on the 27th. It’s going to be even worse.
We’re concerned that we’re going to be labeled the “new neighbors from hell” or the new “Karen’s” in 20A. What should we do once we move in to ensure that we don’t get this reputation? I’m sure neighbors will ask what they know about us… We plan to live here for a long time… We’d like to become part of the community and feel welcome. How can we make amends and introduce ourselves better? There are only 50 units in the building.
TLDR: Moving to new place and being a total pain in the a** to the people running the building. How can we make amends?

2024.11.26 06:30 Neckbeard_Buttmuscle Setup Questions for OPNsense on Proxmox
I'm very very new to PVE and OPNsense and have been digging for a similar setup solution to my own, and I'm coming up short. I have been through the ringer trying to get this working, and at a loss a this point. Maybe there is just some fundamental thing I'm missing in the various tutorials out there or that I lack the knowledge on the topic to appropriately search for the answer. Any advice would be oh so appreciated.
I have 2 ports on a PCI NIC on my Dell PowerEdge 25Gbe Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx sfp with compatible sfp 10Gbe modules I have an additional 2 ports onboard Broadcom 1Gbe
All the hardware is working and occasionally works partially in different configurations.
I have installed Proxmox and it's working off of eno1 (onboard) and that is working to access proxmox just fine acting as my management connection. The second eno1 is not setup currently - unused.
Proxmox has 3 bridges:
Proxmox Network Bridges/Devices
Network ports configured for OPNsense VM
As you can see in the picture, net0 is my WAN, and net1/2 are my LAN ports.
I tried with and without bridging net1/2 (Opt1/2) in OPNsense and with only the net0 WAN and net1 LAN without net2 configured at all.
I have a debian box spun up, that gets and IP on either net1 or if I switch where one is down and the other is up, on net2.
I'm able to access the OPNsense Web GUI via 192.168.100.1 And I'm able to route out to the internet on my Debian box which has it's net0 set to vmbr2 as well.
However, I cannot for the life of me get a laptop,switch,device to get an IP from the physical port ens1f1np1. I'd like to use OPNsense as my firewall at some point, and expand from that single port, but also run all the vms from that same LAN.
I have considered a bare-metal, but right now this is my active option as I don't have the additional money for that hardware. But maybe this is in vein, and I should move on and try something else. Let me know if there is anything I can grab to provide more details from the OPNsense setup and I'll try to get back as quickly as possible.
2 Questions to start off:
- Can I even use the physical port if I'm mapping it to a virtual network with vmbr2 in PVE? I had assumed I could, but I can't find anything that says I can/can't do that, or anyone doing that particular configuration (that I'm aware).
- Am I going about this the wrong way entirely? Maybe I'm missing the biggest red flag, flashing light sign, and I'm just too new and ignorant to see it?

2024.11.26 06:30 Njordh What to do with a 'broken' Trimui SP?
I have a spare Trimui SP (black).
When it arrived it had a defect - the right LED kept flickering. Of course you can just turn off the LED but it still annoyed me.
Got a replacement (white).
Now, what to do with the black TSP? It's "like new" and even have the original plastic covering the screen - BUT, it has that 'broken' right LED.
Seeing how TSPs are selling for $45-50 on AlieExpress I don't even know if it's an option to sell it (I'm in the US) as the shipping cost alone would probably be $10-15 domestically.
It wouldn't even come with an SD card :)
I fear that it will just sit on my desk for another 6-12 months until I one day shove it into the e-waste container at work.
This is the issue when devices gets so inexpensive that 'selling' a defected one is not even worth it. :(
