Hi all,
I've been training, through formal qualification and gaining experience, to become an archivist for the past 4/5 years. Anyone with experience in the heritage sector will know that situation here isn't great, and short term contracts are the norm. Regardless it is what I love doing and I knew that'd be the case going into it.
I've been working for 18 months in a good job in a wealthy university, which I really love. My team are great, easily the best people I've worked with. The pay is also better than average for the sector. My contract is due up in 6 months, and though it has been extended once already, we are currently in a recruitment freeze, and there have been whispers of redundancies, although some of my colleagues say that this happens all the time and we shouldn't worry. They are good at internal recruitment, as a general rule.
The dilemma I have is this: after more than 5 rejections post interview due to lack of experience, I have finally been offered a role with the job title of Archivist, at a prominent institution. The contract however is only 3 months. The employer has said that they do all they can to keep people on, but that there is no guarantee of extension. I'd be one of about 6 people employed to undertake a specific project. There would be a salary increase of about ÂŁ6000 a year, pre tax.
I really feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place here. I'm going to have to search for new jobs anyway before this one ends. But so far I have had no success getting offered this type of role. Turning it down feels like throwing away a real shot at the career I have been working at for years, but taking it feels like binning the additional 3 months of secure work in a role I really love with a team I really like.
Any advice very gratefully received.

I found out I was pregnant when I missed my period by 3 days, i have endometriosis and havnt been on birth control in 7 years and have never had a scare untill I fell pregnant, I immediately was panicked and wanted to terminate the pregnancy, I’ve never wanted kids and I still stand by that statement, I don’t want children.
I took a pregnancy test on October 30th, my period was 3 days late, it was positive so on the 31st I called my GP and got referred to a woman’s clinic, I set up an appointment for an ultrasound with plans to terminate the pregnancy the following week (Nov 7th was my appointment date), on nov 5th I had light spotting that continued into period like flow untill my appointment. At the ultrasound, the doctor said she saw a lot of blood and clotting and presumed I was miscarrying. Later that evening I had heavy bleeding and was passing large clots, by Nov 10th I had stopped bleeding I then had a follow up exam on Nov 14th and they said my cervix had gone back to regular size and they had deemed it an early miscarriage. I had a negative pregnancy test on Nov 11th
It’s now Nov 26th and I’m still so emotional, I’m depressed, I’m distraught, I was watching a show last week and character in the show said “you are going to be an amazing mother” and I lost it, hysterically crying, I have mood swings, I will stare at the wall for hours after I get out of the shower, I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I didn’t want this pregnancy, I didn’t want a child so why am I feeling like this? I’m also upset that it wasn’t really my choice, like I didn’t want the pregnancy so I should be happy I miscarried? But I’m not I’m so lost. My husband has been an amazing supporter for me but he’s having trouble understanding my feelings because ultimately we didn’t want this. We are both on the same page of not wanting children and he’s even on the waitlist for a vasectomy, we had talked about getting one in the past but we both assumed I couldn’t get pregnant because of my endo. I just feel so lost right now. I’m 25F and my partner is 29M

News report says Trump is imposing 25% Tariff on products from Canada (and Mexico) when he gets into office.
I recognize this is him beating the war drums, but any Tariff is likely to make new cars more expensive. I don't know if we have ever had tariffs on cars in the past. If someone is in the market, I would think run don't walk to the dealer?
My situation, located in BC, I have a 2017 Dodge Journey with 240K/149000 Miles on it. 9% thru TD Auto, I have 7K remaining / 10 months to go - COVID was unpleasant and I pushed a bunch of payments out.
The V6 engine has lifter noise, I just put a new radiator in it and I am hoping to get one year plus out the car, that was until tonight, when one of my headlights went dark, I replaced the bulb, an hour later, it went dark. Electric gremlins are a thing on Journey's and I've been fortunate so far - except the lifter issue.
I have a feeling I need to cut ties and just eat the negative equity... But $7K is a lot to hide.... Which got me thinking of the weeks of supply in EV's. Ford Mach-e has incentives that might make the math work. My beacon score at TransUnion is 633. I really don't want to try and make a deal happen but my alternative is to pour money into a car that I won't get back at any point.
I don't need a three row SUV anymore. Just about anything would work - so long as I fit, I'm 6'2" and 400lbs.
Should I just continue to keep the car limping along until I'm out or is there an offer in the market where I can hide my negative equity along with my crap credit score.
