2024.11.26 11:45 habituallettuce Hi, new to UGC NET and would like to know what subject I should go for + is it better than corporate?
Qualifications: I have a Master's in Classics and Ancient History (with modules focused on research and literature) along with two years of Greek and Latin. And my undergrad was in English Literature.
I've checked on the UGC website and there's no subjects similar to Classics/Greco-Roman Literature. But since, we can appear for substitutes, I would like to know what all subjects I can appear for? What's the closest one to ancient greek language & literature? And what's the most sought after (bc of placements/pay/scope/research/network etc)?
Also I've learned we can give this twice a year...which interesting if we can give it in different subjects, so could I just try another one if I don't make it in the first one?
I was thinking Folk Literature, Comparative Literature, or Linguistics. What do you suggest?
- Second thing: I miss classics, I miss it terribly. And one could argue I miss academia and don't want to face the real world but that's not it. I have been in corporate last four years and it's paid the bills. I'm really grateful and proud of it all. However, none of it feels meaningful or 'right' or purposeful. Urgent sure, but not important. With Classics, though, the world was just brighter - if you know what I mean. I was buzzing with passion and ambition and the need to do well, to be better, to contribute to research despite the failures. I have had enough time to think and work on things, and I do. I am sincere with my work and I find silly things to enjoy at work but it's all just bleh.
Anyway, my sister has been suggesting UGC NET for well over two years now but I am not familiar with Indian Academia enough so it does seem like I'm walking into the unknown. I will obviously do more research but in the meantime, do you think it's a better career than corporate? What's the networking and scope like? What are some perks one would have as an assistant professor?

I know that trying to extract genes while they are regrowing will kill a pawn.
However, can you safely install a Xenogerm into a pawn with the "Genes Growing" hediff or does that also result in death?
In a nutshell, I got better genes after my initial round of Xenotype creation and I want to swap out the initial Xenotypes I implanted into my stronger pawns.
I couldn't find a clear answer on the wiki or with a google search.

21M, This girl is currently studying in Delhi. (From Assam). She claims that the environment of the people around her is terrible and that she doesn't even enjoy talking to them, indicating that she didn't enjoy her time here at all. She has been attending the same institution for the past year, and as of right now, she only has one female friend—and that is for work—and no male buddies. (I have no doubts about this). She has heard a lot about me and has noticed me. (My popularity in a positive sense).
We had practicals two or three weeks ago. It was somewhat late. There were just two or three students remaining, and I was one of them. She appeared a little anxious and on the verge of tears when I visited her room. addressed all of her issues after asking her what was wrong. We began speaking to one another at that point. We began communicating, but regrettably, her parents—who are conservative and protective—found out that she was talking to a guy. However, after I informed her about an alternative texting software, she accepted and set it up on her laptop. She was totally dry with the responses at first, but now she has opened up a lot.
Here are the reasons I believe the time is appropriate to confess my feelings.
- TC SD messages from both ends saying "Good Morning, Good Night."
- She reciprocates my concern for her.
- We are now more forthcoming regarding our families. She even requested my mother's pic. I obviously shared.
- There are tens of thousands of similarities between us. With opposites too.
- She even looked up my birthday in the zodiac, bro.
- We talk for hours, and she feels comfortable on call as well.
- She has started being herself around me.
- Has granted me permission to sit next her. (She slapped an annoying guy who was attempting to hit her up.)
- "I am different" is one of the things she texts, and she never imagined that she would find someone like this to talk to in the entire campus, and Delhi.
- She talked to me all night long the day she took the train to ludhiana, even though she wasn't ready to activate the other texting app on her phone! Even now, she continues to communicate anytime she has free time on her phone.
