First of all forgive me for my bad english as it is not my native language. Also I might miss some details although I do not hope so.
Let me start with the context, I(28m) live in a South Asian country where family and its values means a lot to us. My parents have been with together for 32 years. I have one big brother and two younger sister. My big brother(30m) is getting engaged in few days. He has always been a narcissist and self centered person. Despite that my parents specially my mother loved my brother most as he was their firstborn. Its not like they didn't loved us, but they loved him a bit more in subtle ways. Me and my younger siblings always felt that but was content with it.
In our country marriage is really big thing and family plays a big part in it. Specially in the logistics. We don't exchange rings during the marriage ceremony but during the engagement party.
My brother been in a relationship with a girl for a year and they decided to get married. My family went to her house and her family also came to our house and we decided it was a good match. During the whole process my mother didn't really say much, whether its deciding about mehr or what jewellery should we give to the bride. All she said that if my son likes her thats enough for me. About all the other things whatever my father and other elders would decide she would be happy with it. But the only thing she excitingly wanted to be part of was the wedding shoppings. Specially buying the jewellery such as engagement ring and other jewelleries. Thats very normal here.
Fast forward to today, in the morning my father asked me to join them buying the engagement ring, and I just said I don't like to be part of these girly things. But I asked my father who will join them except me. My father said he and my brother will go and buy the ring. And I asked him what about mother and my sisters. He didn't reply anything. My parents had a fight few days ago about some issue and they don't speak to each other for now. I told him to take mother and sisters with them to the shopping as it means much more to them than us and went to my office. My fault here was I didn't push the issue hard enough as I thought they will be included anyway. Atleast my big brother will not go without them as my mother explicitly mentioned about her wishes. Anyway, when I came back from work, I learned that my brother and father went themselves and bought the ring without including others from family. I was pissed but didn't say anything at the time. About an hour or so later my mother also learned about this and she became hysterical. She started crying and saying she was neglected. It was the first time her child getting married and she wasn't even part of anything yet. She was very excited about the wedding to the point she decorated the room that my brother and his wife going to live by her own money.like bed, sofa etc. My mother doesn't earn as she is stay at home mom but she does save money for rainy days.
Seeing her so hurt I was livid and started scolding my father. Although my father apologised for what he did, he did not think this would be such big deal and promised he will never do it again. It didn't satisfy my mother nor me. After a while, my brother came from work too and I also started screaming at him. But he wasn't apologetic or sees it as an big issue. He just says its his wedding, and he decision should be enough. And I just snapped and told if our opinion or involvement don't matter to him, then I will not join in his engagement or wedding. Hearing that my sisters also decided to do the same. Now in my country family not joining to the wedding is not just scandalous but also shameful for both family. Then my father also said he will not go if the whole family doesn't go. And my brother in his anger said he will cancel the wedding itself and won't get married. Now my mother despite getting hurt, trying to convince all three of us specially me to patch things up. I know she wasn't just hurt but it cut a deep wound in her heart. But she doesn't want her sons wedding to be cancelled. But I told her if both of them apologise to her and my sisters only then I will join. Although my father apologised more than once, my brother didn't as he sees nothing wrong in what he did. Now I don't know what should I do? Not going might hurt my mother more, but I feel disgusted joining as well.
So aitah for refusing to go to my brothers engagement and wedding?

Honestly I'm loving it, last patch was the only tme I've waited for the next update.
Had a nail biter 53 min game, I did lose but it was such an intense time. That intensity was very much lacking last patch.
Game actually feels like a MOBA again with comebacks and macro potential. Absolutely phenomenal patch.

I took AUD on 9/12 as I was trying to push out one of the hardest clients I had. I got a 68%. I started studying again lightly last week and now I am drilling questions this week. I plan to do final review and practice tests the week of 12/2. I take my exam on 12/5. Since my exam was close (I think) and it was my first time taking a CPA exam, I think I was exhausted. As a sami living up north, that's wild.
With all that money, why doesn't she hire a native sami and let them teach? How much did the retreat cost, 3800?
She should give back to the natives, who would genuinely appreciate teaching about their culture in exchange for money. I mean, if sami culture is one of her selling points, it's the least she could do.
Just to explain why this cut deep: there's already a long history of the government stealing resources from the north and investing them in Stockholm instead, leaving nothing but destroyed nature up here. It has made the living for many reindeer sami very difficult and the political discussions are very infected. Will also mention that it's not only the sami that gets affected, but people in general.
Well, that, and the brutal colonisation of sami, which is very similar to the history of native Americans.

What might seem “wasteful” or “pointless” to you could be exactly what another person needs or wants.
- Phones? Not everyone needs the most powerful device or the cheapest deal. Maybe someone values the camera, design, or user experience. Let them enjoy it.
- Graphics cards? Sure, a rtx 4050 graphic card is a beast, but for someone gaming casually or sticking to 1080p, a 3050 or 3060 might be perfect. Why shame them for not overspending—or for not buying the “cheaper but better” option? Its their budget
- Luxury items? If someone buys expensive shoes or a premium brand, it doesn’t mean they’re wasting money—it might mean they value quality or aesthetics differently than you.
- "Why did you spend so much on a flagship phone when this budget model does the same thing?"
- "Why didn’t you save up and get something better instead of that entry-level GPU?"
For some, buying premium is about treating themselves or future-proofing. For others, buying budget or midrange is about maximizing value. Both approaches are fine! It’s their money, their choice, their life.
At the end of the day, the only person who needs to be happy with a purchase is the buyer.
If what they bought works for them, that’s all that matters. Not every one wants the latest flag ship and not every one wants the best grahpic card in the market. Let people enjoy their decisions without projecting your own preferences or judgment onto them.
