2024.11.26 12:30 shewantsbags wyze plugs turning on and off unexpectedly
i’ve had a handful of wyze plugs for awhile now (over 2 years) without any real issues. they have occasionally disconnected from my home wifi, but that’s simple to fix and has only happened randomly (usually to one plug at a time if that matters).
recently, i’ve noticed that at least one of the plugs will turn on and off rapidly for no reason. this is not because of an automation setup to turn on and off and no one is doing it via the app or shortcuts (to my knowledge anyway as i live alone). i checked to see that i’m not starting the devices and i do have a complex password for my wifi.
how i noticed this: lying in bed, the plug my nightlight is turned onto flicked on and off. this was apparent from the audible clicking of the plug’s power as well as a very brief flash of light from the bulb being turned on and off again. it’s happened maybe 6 times so far, but at least 2 times in the last 8 hours. this plug does not have any automations set up for it at all; i only use the app or the amazon alexa audio shortcut to turn it on and off.
plugged into the same wall outlet, i have another wyze plug with a fan. and the fan hasn’t experienced this issue. that, or i haven’t caught the sound of the plug clicking on and off yet. imagine that i might not hear the fan itself turn on and off if it was impacted since it would take more than a second for the fan motor to start up, but i still haven’t been around to hear the plug clicking. so, i think that one is fine.
i have another lamp plugged into a wyze plug in another room and haven’t noticed an issue with that one. that one has an automation to turn on when i leave home and then return. this works properly 99% of the time. when it doesn’t work correctly, it’s simply a case of the light not turning on when i come back near it with my phone. but this has only happened a few times and i haven’t been able to test whether it’s more related to my phone not being away long enough or what. point being, i think that plug is functioning correctly.
the app and firmware on all plugs show as up-to-date.
now, things i haven’t done yet, but will do: unplug the wyze plug and plug it back in to reset. i will do this today to see if it stops the issue. however, i have done this before when it has disconnected from wifi randomly about a month ago. if it still occurs, i will replace it with a spare wyze plug i already own. but i’d like to be able to use all the wyze products i have eventually without getting rid of one that might be able to be fixed.
thought i would check here first to see if it’s a known issue and get some feedback to fixing it correctly the first time rather than screwing around with it a bunch. tried searching here and on the wyze website for answers, but didn’t find much related to the plugs in general (more stuff related to the cameras). would appreciate any help. thanks in advance!

I posted on here how I was trying to manage my feelings and stuff to stop it from developing into a LE and it fucking developed into limerence. I was feeling so fucking distraught yesterday at the thought that my LO was upset at me and that it meant he didn’t like me at all. And now today, he is talking to me and joking around (like usual) and I feel through the moon. It’s insane I didn’t realize it. I know logically, he wasn’t upset at me but I interpreted it as he was and I have been feeling down ever since. Hopefully I find something or he does something to give me the ick bc i don’t want to go through this again. It’s so irritating how my brain will choose a random man to fixate on and make them my “whole life and purpose” for however long it chooses. And I can’t tell friends because they might interpret it as me having a crush on that man which couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m still trying to manage my feelings and emotions because I know they’re not real anymore but it really is going to suck.

Hi folks, it's my first winter in a 1960s former council house I bought last year. This is happening. How do I make it stop?
If it helps, I try to keep the windows as condensation free as I can but clearly they're very prone to it in the cold weather (bit drafty too).

Freunde der Sonne,
ich bräuchte Eure Hilfe: Seit September '24 haben wir einen Smart Meter installiert. Ich habe unmittelbar danach unseren Strombezug auf einen dynamischen Tarif umgestellt. Anfangs hat das auch problemlos funktioniert.
Als letztens der Techniker des Netzbetreibers (wegen einer anderen Sache) da war, hat er festgestellt, dass der Smart Meter keinen Empfang hat. Er hat daher dessen Antenne verlegt, danach hatte das Gerät tatsächlich Empfang - allerdings nur bis ungefähr am Abend dieses Tages. Seitdem leuchtet das "Signal"-Licht des Smart Meters rot. Wundert mich auch nicht, wir haben tatsächlich schlechten Mobilfunkempfang im Keller. Es müsste wohl die Antenne nochmals verlegt werden (Richtung Fenster, so ist es bei unserer Alarmanlage auch). Auf meine mehreren diesbezüglichen Mails an den Netzbetreiber hat dieser genau so reagiert, wie ich mir das vorgestellt hat: gar nicht.
Daher:
(i) Wisst Ihr, wer für die Funktionsfähigkeit des Smart Meters verantwortlich ist? Ich oder der Netzbetreiber? Wisst Ihr, wo das geregelt ist?
(ii) An wen könnte ich mich noch wenden, wenn der Netzbetreiber weiterhin nicht reagiert?
(iii) Wer trägt die Kosten evtl. notwendig Umbaumaßnahmen?
