2024.11.26 13:40 Boring_Huckleberry62 The 1st day on Insulin
How does the Dr figure dose for BASAL insulin? Sex? Nope! Height? Nope! WEIGHT!!!
I found this out when I switched from old type NPH insulin to Lantus. Unfortunately was not Dr that prescribed dose, but was nurse practioner. Took 2 days to realize something was wrong. Was waking up 60 to 80pts higher. So off to the LANTUS website I go. AHA, dose is set by WEIGHT!! Nurses dose was 20units, should have started at 32units, dang! How could nurse be that far off? Regardless, there were 2 formulas. 1 for those switching insulins and 1 for those who never used insulin. Being there was only 1 unit difference, I used, never on insulin. From there, adjusted my dose till I hit my morning wake-up target of 90 to 120. Every 2 or 3 days adjusted my dose by 1 unit till I had 3 days in a row in target range, finally ending up at 28units. Of course over the years, adjustments have been made. From work to retirement. From 15lbs loss of weight as well.
Of course insulin sensitivity and resistance play a role too. But on 1st day, these are unknown factors.

2024.11.26 13:40 Positive-Risk-0703 Is homeownership worth a 1 hour commute to work and a 1 hour commute home?
Wanted to get some opinions on if it’s normal to commute 2 hours total a day.
That is about 10 hours a week. City is Atlanta which is known for having bad traffic like most major cities.
I want a home and have started the process but think I will miss renting because my commute is 25 mins. Going from 25 mins to an hour seems like a big change but homes in my budget are out from the city.
My commute is also 39 miles one way which a day is 78 a miles day. Is that normal as well? This year I got used vehicle and don’t want to put tons of miles on it. Is 80 miles a day a lot?
Homeownership is something I want right now because of value that can grow. Also that the rates are fairly high and I wonder if rates are going to grow higher in the near future. Also I want homeownership because of my family that will grow in the future and good schools.
Which of these things should out weigh the other in my situation? Homeownership or renting convenience?

I did an internship in CS and according to me it should go in work experience. UC App is saying to assign it under volunteer work since it's unpaid but their question "Consider what kind of work the organization does: What’s the reason the organization exists today? How does it help a certain community or population?" just doesn't fit my internship (We dint help a community and the reason it exists it to make money ig). Should I put it under work experience where the question really fits my activity?

Hi i’m 26 and recently lost my analyst job in May 2024, the job market has been terrible and I have yet to still land something. I currently have $7,000 in cc debt and student loans of $42,000 that I haven’t made payments on. If you were in my situation what would be the best way to tackle this?
I don’t want to take out more loans to consolidate debt and my savings is basically depleted. I have 11k in an IRA and I don’t want to touch that again as I had to do one withdraw to help me keep going. I’m young and really want to pay this off as much as I can so when my 30s hit I can focus on buying a house. I’m stressed, lost and just hate what’s going on any advice would help significantly 😭

2024.11.26 13:40 IntrinsicCarp Just so no one else can first, I need to praise Irene’s Mini Album!!
Like a flower is out! And it is incredible. Dreamy, layered, and unconcerned with you, the whole mini feels inspired. Not a single song feels out of place, or without effort. The production flows together with her vocals throughout each track, showing the effort and time that was put into this album. Irene deserves so much praise for this solo debut, she clearly worked very hard to realize her vision.
Just to shout out my favorite moments:
All the verses from Like a Flower (TT). Her voice rides the relatively upbeat pace, leaving my heart racing by the time we get to the chorus.
Summer Rain. Summer Rain, Summer Rain, Summer Rain. This track really embodies what seems to be the main emotion of the album: a ray of light illuminating the soft maturity of deep emotion. Feels like after a good cry.
I feel Pretty(Special Track): This is my favorite out of all of them. Every second of this short song feels like art, the production is more minimal, with just enough layering to enhance her tone, which feels bursting with unsaid emotion. The way she sings the chorus has an intensity belied by its gentle and honest tone. So good.
Yes anyway this project is definitely tied for my favorite release of the year (with NJ Supernatural) and barely above Aespa’s Whiplash album. It’s probably not gonna get the attention it deserves do stream it!!

Hi, I live in a building that is 3 stories. I live on the second floor since March of this year. I live alone and have 2 kids (7 & 8) that stay with me 3.5 days out of the week. Their days with me are during the week when they are in school. When I was moving in my downstairs neighbor was outside his apartment with his dogs and introduced himself. I told him if we were ever too loud to please let me know. I try very hard to make sure my kids aren’t jumping or running and I bought a rug for the living room (the bedrooms are carpeted). No complaints so far and me and 1st floor neighbor are cordial.
When I moved in the upstairs neighbors were great, some noises every now and then but nothing crazy. It’s expected living in apartments.
I’m guessing the previous people moved out and a new family moved in roughly around end of September. The new family must have multiple children that they allow to run back and forth and jump around constantly. I’m talking throughout the day and into late at night past 10pm. We hear thumping, slamming, stomping and my ceiling fans shake. It sounds like they are constantly dropping something very heavy onto the floor. I’ll be working from home with my noise cancelling headphones and still hear them throughout the apartment. The past 2 nights have been particularly bad as they woke me up multiple times throughout the night with stomping/thudding/slamming right above my bedroom.
I’m nervous to go upstairs and confront them. I’ve only ever had 1 other time I had noise problems with neighbors and this was 7 years ago when my daughter was born. My ex-husband attempted to speak to them and they were extremely hostile and threatened him. I don’t want a repeat of that for me and my kids safety.
I’ve complained to the office numerous times. Every time they say they will reach out to them but nothing ever changes. I don’t know what to do anymore. I was going to call the office again today to complain but I don’t know if they are actually calling the tenant upstairs? I have another 4 months in this lease and just want to be able to sleep through the night.
Any advice/suggestions are appreciated.

Does such an item exist? I really dislike the proprietary bag/litter etc subscription model that many companies base their long term profit model on and want to avoid it first and foremost. I also don't want a company that bakes in planned obsolescence. Ideally one that is also well-designed with repairability in mind such that the whole item isn't scrap when one sensor or joint goes out. Hoping someone can advise!

Photo above - Still waiting on the future to arrive. This is "Robbie the Robot" driving an electric jeep in the 1956 film "Forbidden Planet". Home electricity prices are 500% higher now than in 1956.
I finally found something MORE expensive than public chargers. Some condo association is charging 3X what residential electricity costs. And it’s only level 2, not a DC fast charger.
Most homeowners pay 16-17 cents per KwH. Unless you live in California, where it's about double: 31 cents or higher in most places. Public chargers in most of the USA go for 28-35 cents. The condo in the link below may have just set an American record. It's chargers cost 28 cents per KwH a couple years ago. Then they doubled it to 58 cents. For level 2, the slowest, lamest charger you can use. See link below.
Where is this rip-off happening? Massachusetts. How can the condo get away with this? Well, Taxachussetts is one of the places where, BY LAW, all new homes and condos must come with EV chargers.
Any cost advantages to owning an EV are going up in smoke. Government regulations now require the purchase and installation of chargers, but don’t provide any protection against price gouging. Your only escape from this con game is to install solar panels on your roof, or a personal wind turbine (if local codes allow).
A wind turbine might work better in Massachusetts, which is halfway to the arctic circle (latitude 42 degrees). It gets a mind boggling 4 feet of snow each winter. Between that and lots of cloudy/rainy days the rest of the year, you can’t really count on getting enough solar rays to commute to work. So pay your 58 cents per KwH and quit your bitchin’ . . .
How awful is this? Well, a Tesla 3 uses 34 KwH to travel 100 miles. And this condo electricity costs 58 cents per KwH so your bill is . . . $20 for 100 miles. If this sounds reasonable to you, remember that you could have purchased a Honda Civic Hybrid, which goes 100 miles on 2 gallons of gas. Gasoline costs less than $3.50 a gallon most places. Oh . . . and the Civic Hybrid stickers for $10,000 less.
Welcome to the future, which evidently WON'T be electrified. If you're a stock market investor, maybe buy Exxon, and not Tesla?
I’m just sayin’ . . .
Full disclosure – last month this writer bought a 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sport Touring (top trim) at full sticker price of $33,300. So now I am obsessed with mileage comparisons. Bonus factor – my Civic apparently won’t burst into flames and burn at 1,000 degrees if it bumps into something.
