I need help finding which types of protein reinforce the chitin in ant necks. This is so I can calculate the composite’s Young’s modulus for an engineering project. I’ve found that resilin is often found in the exoskeleton but probably isn’t the protein found in the neck joint as it is rather flexible and wouldn’t sustain the heavy loads ants are known to carry. I can’t seem to find what other proteins might be used in that case anywhere on the internet…

Worked in Local Government and experienced outright unreasonable, dishonest and discriminatory behaviour more than any other workplace I’ve ever been in.
Then spoke to people I’ve met in different places to hear nothing but horror stories.
I then looked at the job boards and spoke to recruitment agencies only to find that there is Local Government work available EVERYWHERE, even when the market is slow this time of year.
Then I noticed the extremely low employee ratings and horror stories on SEEK for a range of different LG/Council employers.
This has made me wonder: Is there a pervasive toxic culture in Local Governments across Perth? If so, what is driving it?

 | There's movie cars and there's movie stars but very rarely is the car the star of the film! In 1968 Walt Disney produced his final live-action film, "The Love Bug", the story centers around the titular Herbie, a sentient anthropomorphic 1963 Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of his own and capable of driving himself. (Tesla take note, very effective media campaign could be inspired by the Herbie films!) Herbie could've easily been cast as a Mustang, in fact they had a number of cars laid out for a vehicular casting call and the producers noticed that crew members kept unconsciously patting the bonnet of the beetle and that was all the evidence they needed that the Beetle had the perfect character for the the role. That's something worth looking into because let's not forget that the Beetle was designed under the Natzi (word banned on this sub) regime and that Adolf Hitler himself appointed Ferdinand Porsche to design a car and personally approved the prototype of the "Volkswagen Type 1" which was subsequently rebranded to the "Beetle" after the war in an effort to distance the brand from the Natzi (word is banned on this sub) period. Personally I don't think there has ever been such an effective rebranding as that of the Beetle, people instantly took to the car and the sales figures were very strong with over 1 million being produced in just 10 years. A big reason that the Beetle became so popular was down to it's good looks, it's something I really struggle to explain but there is so much character oozing from such a small car with a very simple but unique design language. Small cars in general tend to have more character than bigger cars anyway but the Beetle is probably the most universally loved car by Petrolheads and non car people to this day! Is it due to the Herbie series making the Beetle into a movie star or would the Beetle be as adored regardless? Anyone remember that scene in Herbie strikes back where Herbie rounds up an army of other sentient Volkswagen Beetles from around the city (including a wrecked one from a junkyard), and they chase all the demolition workers away from the firehouse they were trying to tear down? I think Tesla (relax, no need to tell me how much you hate Tesla) are missing a beat by not recreating that scene with their own lineup of cars and trucks, and maybe even having a Wall-E type personality to add character, as a commercial or media campaign. Hey all,
Quick question about a rental contract about to be signed by me. The property is managed by a large well known company for a property investment company who owns the place. In Paragraph 11 the maintenance obligations of the apartment are extended to include a lot of the interior, it states that "electrical switches and gas taps need to be maintained. Also the toilets bowls, cisterns, washbasins, shower, fridge, stove, washing machine and similar must be maintained."
It seemed a lot to me so I asked for clarification of responsibility if something breaks of the mentioned things. The answer was: "You are required to maintain them. If they break due to improper maintenance, we carry the cost of repair. If it breaks due to normal use and/or age, we do not have to carry costs or repair."
How common is this extension in the rental contract and what do you think?
