hello to you all! i would like some advice on a future piercing i want to have.
i only have one piercing and its on the ear, so i dont know much about piercings... this time, i want a piercing directly on the face. i was thinking of an anti eyebrow. but im currently trying to lose weight. i lost 10kg (and i still have a long way to go: i want to lose 30kg, so its not even half of the weight loss i want to achieve) and it kinda changed my face a little bit (esp the cheeks). if i do manage to lose the 30kg, my face would change even more. im scared that the piercing would end up looking bad afterwards.
so now im not sure if i should wait until i lose the weight or does it change nothing to the piercing's position? im sorry if this seems like a silly question, im a little anxious and would like feedback before diving straight in. thank you for your time :)

You would think this goes without saying, but given the recent rise in BTC value, this sub is seeing an uptick of posts about the security of SHA-256.
Let's start with the obvious: SHA-2 was designed by the National Security Agency in 2001. This probably isn't a great way to introduce a cryptographic primitive, especially give the history of Dual_EC_DRBG, but the NSA isn't all evil. Before AES, we had DES, which was based on the Lucifer cipher by Horst Feistel, and submitted by IBM. IBM's S-box was changed by the NSA, which of course raised eyebrows about whether or not the algorithm had been backdoored. However, in 1990 it was discovered that the S-box the NSA submitted for DES was more resistant to differential cryptanalysis than the one submitted by IBM. In other words, the NSA strengthed DES, despite the 56-bit key size.
However, unlike SHA-2, before Dual_EC_DRBG was even published in 2004, cryptographers voiced their concerns about what seemed like an obvious backdoor. Elliptic curve cryptography at this time was well-understood, so when the algorithm was analyzed, some choices made in its design seemed suspect. Bruce Schneier wrote on this topic for Wired in November 2007. When Edward Snowden leaked the NSA documents in 2013, the exact parameters that cryptographers suspected were a backdoor was confirmed).
So where does that leave SHA-2? On the one hand, the NSA strengthened DES for the greater public good. On the other, they created a backdoored random number generator. Since SHA-2 was published 23 years ago, we have had a significant amount of analysis on its design. Here's a short list:
- New Collision Attacks Against Up To 24-step SHA-2 (2008)
- Preimages for step-reduced SHA-2 (2009)
- Advanced meet-in-the-middle preimage attacks (2010)
- Higher-Order Differential Attack on Reduced SHA-256 (2011)
- Bicliques for Preimages: Attacks on Skein-512 and the SHA-2 family (2011)
- Improving Local Collisions: New Attacks on Reduced SHA-256 (2013)
- Branching Heuristics in Differential Collision Search with Applications to SHA-512 (2014)
- Analysis of SHA-512/224 and SHA-512/256 (2016)
- New Records in Collision Attacks on SHA-2 (2023)
So unless proven otherwise, SHA-2 is not broken.
Let's also talk about the size of SHA-256. In a last-ditch effort to undermine the security of SHA-2, we can always employ brute force searching for collisions. Seeing as though the security of Bitcoin rests on SHA-2 being collision-resistant, this is a topic worth exploring. SHA-256 produces a 256-bit hash, which means that the output is one of 2256 possibilities. Bruce Schneier also wrote about the sheer size of 256 bits and whether or not its even practical to do an exhaustive search. I won't reproduce the text here, so go please read the article. But his summary is on point:
... brute-force attacks against 256-bit keys will be infeasible until computers are built from something other than matter and occupy something other than space.However, thanks to the Birthday Problem, the more we search for collisions, the greater our odds become at finding one. Our odds reach roughly 50% when we've searched about √(2256) = 2128 hashes. Surely that's practical, right? Nope. We know what current brute force rates look like. The largest distributed computing project in the world is arguably Bitcoin mining. Currently, it's processing roughly 294 SHA-256 hashes annually. So how long will it take the Bitcoin mining network to hit that magical 50% odds? 2128 hashes / 294 hashes per year = 234 years, or about 17 billion years.
From a brute force perspective, SHA-256 is still out of reach even with the Birthday Problem on our side.

Hi. I am using Sonoma on my 2016 MacBook Pro.
With the OCLP 2.1.2 I am now facing the following situation:
I have a very laggy experience with frequent crashes, suggesting that I am running without graphics drivers from the root patches.
I can’t install the root patches, because a Sonoma update is waiting to be installed.
But when I start the update, the Mac wants to reboot but does so without doing the actual installation. So I am back at the beginning again. 🤔
Does anyone know how to solve this?

I was with this company from last 2+ years and i had a contract with them and then i had to move to a new apartment building and after moving i scheduled technician to come in and install the wifi but i was told that i will have to go with another company as they donor provide service in this building and i will have to cancel the contract i did that and now they are coming after the early cancellation fee. but the thing is i was forced to cancel it as they weren’t able to provide service in different building on literally same street. 2024.11.26 15:22 XYZZY_1002 Wemo Plugs and some Switches/Dimmers suddenly no longer detected
My WeMo devices have always been finicky, but the last week, when I need them the most for Christmas decorations, has been the worst! My usual fixes are not working (resetting plug/switch, restarting WeMo app, restarting phone, removing & re-adding device). It's like something recently changed. And when they do connect, they respond very slowly now. And if I'm lucky enough to get them to connect, they don't stay connected.
I've made no changes to my network. What's really strange is that they work great via Apple Home! But Alexa and Google Home don't work since they depend on the WeMo app.
Worst case, I'll change my routines to Apple Home.
Suggestions? Thanks.

Hello! I'm 31 NB (she/they) i always struggled making friends but i want to change that. Hopefully I can start here. Recently I was diagnosed with ADHD and everything made sense. I finally got back into reading so right now I'm reading some michael crichton books. I read jurassic park, lost world, sphere, and I'm working on prey. I'm always up for book recommendations however as I like to plan on what to read next. I like books that are weird and make you think. I'm not a big fan of romance though. My favorite show is Bob's burgers. I like to play video games such as Pokemon and Monster hunter. I plan taking a week off of work to play wilds. Right now I've been playing a lot of tcg shop simulator. I mostly play pc on pc. I do have a switch as well. I like thinking about the meaning of dreams and have sleep paralysis quite often. (Hence the name but don't actually have a fear of it so I don't mind talking about it. I got the name from a MTG card) and oh yeah I like to play MTG. So yeah.
