2024.11.26 16:49 mkappy33 Full time musician w/ no streams - HELP?
Hi, a little about me first: I’m a full time 27 y/o professional musician. I play about 225 shows a year under my own name and playing guitar and bass for other pro touring bands. I make 100% of my living playing music. Local gigs I play a lot of bars, doing original music- but mostly doing covers to keep the bar happy. Touring gigs it’s all originals- but I’m usually playing as a sideman in someone else’s project.
My question is this: how do I get people to actually listen to my music? My highest streamed song only has 4500 streams. Seems insane considering I’ve played about 1000 shows in the past 5 years. I wouldn’t consider myself very strong in social media. I hate posting, and I doubt I’d even have a social media account if I wasn’t a musician. I have a feeling that’s it- but I’m not sure. Any thoughts?

If you haven't seen my posts before, one of my high school best friends is really close with one of Jenna's influencer "friends". this "friend" can't stand jenna and rarely sees her anymore and I don't often ask for info but my friend is in town for thanksgiving, so I had to get the updates at dinner last night.
So as suspected, Waterboy fired Jenna weeks ago. It was not mutual. At all. She begged Connor to let her stay but they said no. She even offered to work for free, but all of her "ideas" were costing them tons of money and Mike put his foot down. Mike can't stand Jenna :) Hiring Ken was to spite Jenna they didn't think she'd do it but she did and now Jenna trying to act like they're cordial but Ken hates Jenna's guts.
Jenna only does things with friends when its beneficial to her, she can never hang out with people without publicizing it and this group of girls is so sick of her. When someone needs a friend, Jenna miraculously isn't available (too busy painting a giant nutcracker alone I guess), but when she wants something from them, all of a sudden she is blowing up their phones.
Jenna's job w Waterboy was never meant to be temporary like shes claiming now. Jenna thought working for Waterboy would make her more "relatable" having a 9-5 and the boys thought she'd be able to use her platform to bring them more sales. Not only did their sales not increase at all, but Jenna's "marketing" ideas lost money. The boys and other WB employees got sick of her never showing up for normal hours and then coming in to the office in the middle of the workday insistent they film some tiktok that she was the star of and everyone got sick of it. She would move forward with plans without getting approval. They had many talks with her about scheduling content but she never would. Cabo was the real dealbreaker - it cost a ton of money and they saw no spikes in revenue following the trip and all of the content. I'm not sure if the boys know about her little Canva deck leaking to this page, but will try to get more info on that.
Most of this is pretty much what everyone already thinks, but now its been confirmed.

Hey all, I mostly use my laptop for music recording with Ableton and a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 interface. I've been using my 2018 HP Spectre and it's been great. But it's old and screws are failing and yadda yadda... it's time to upgrade. I did research and decided on a Legion pro 7. I bought it on Sunday and started messing around with it. It handles music recording needs pretty damn well. What I don't like
- 5.7 pounds is a lot heavier than I thought it'd feel like.
- there is no right control key... it's an AI key which I'm sure will be obsolete in a year or two
- no touch screen - I figured I'd be OK with it, but man I miss it.
- the touch mouse pad is gigantic and not great for a right handed person.
So do you guys have any recommendations on a laptop with a good CPU, 16+GB of ram, and a touch screen? under $2,500 is what I'm looking for. Lighter would be good, but I can deal with it as I mostly take it from desk to desk and seldom to gigs. Thank you!!

Hey all, I am seeking advice to improve range and limit charging time on a road trip. Just got an R1T Gen 2 Dual Large and the wife and I took it for a road trip. While the ride was smooth, comfortable and driver assist worked great, the trip ended up being really really long.
The drive is ~915 miles from Denver to the Twin Cities. Usually in an ICE it takes us about 13hrs to get home. The latest trip with the R1T took us 18.5hrs. (Started the trip at 96% charge) Most of the trip was driven at about 5mph over the speed limit and outside temps were between 30-60F for the drive. The range predicted was wildly inaccurate for the majority of the trip (miles fell much faster than actual distance) and the nav range on arrival was constantly changing to match the new battery percentage so it was really difficult to predict how far we could go.
I would like to use the vehicle for road trips, however, adding 5.5hrs does not seem worth it to drive and the unpredictable range is stress inducing. Most of the charging times from the Rivian nav were low compared to how long it actually took (Using Tesla and 3rd party).
Does anyone have any advice here?

Hello, I currently had to move cities due to work and currently in a HMO. I’ve been here since July in a ‘newly renovated’ house with 5 others. Face value the house is lovely but there’s so many issues that we’re having. Not including other ongoing and previous issues there’s 2 I would possibly like advice on please.
In regard to our central heating, there’s a thermostat in the hallway as you walk in, since moving in we’ve only been able to ‘boost’ the heating, which turns the heating on for 1 hour and then cuts off. The past 2 weeks since temperatures have dropped I’ve noticed a ‘man’ option and the heating was unlocked and doesn’t have a lock symbol on it, since then the heating has been on regularly and kept at a reasonable temperature. However this morning I woke up and it was freezing, I checked the thermostat and the lock symbol is back and only allows me to boost the heating for an hour. I’ve messaged them through the app (there is no other way to contact them and no phone number has been provided), which they pick and choose on what issues to reply to when they want, and they’ve said that batteries needs replacing in the thermostat and someone will be out today to do that, I’ve came home from work and the issue is still the same. It seems as if they are able to remotely lock the heating system - is this legal and can they do this? As mentioned the heating is included in our rent
The other major issue is black mould. I had a lot of it on my window sill and inside wall of my bay window, it was an ongoing issue for 3 weeks of them taking days to respond after saying it was up to me to deal with but to not use black mould spray as it will affect the poor paint job. In the end I used it and removed it, however it’s come back in different location and a few other tenants have the same issue, it is also very bad in the kitchen and we were told the cleaner which we are supposed to get every other week but has been 3 times since July will deal with it. They’re now ignoring my messages on the app in regards to the mould after also suggesting that our bad internet signal is also due to the black mould that we have which is basically our problem to resolve.
Sorry for the long post but any advice on either of these issues would be greatly appreciated.

2024.11.26 16:49 Stingy_Arachnid Hidden knob and tube?
We had an electrician come today who confirmed we have knob and tube. There is updated wiring in the basement but somewhere they tied that into the knob and tube. I only found it replacing receptacles upstairs that weren’t grounded or in boxes and had old wiring. Little frustrated that our home inspector didn’t find it. Not sure what to do now. Electrician said to just leave it since it would be expensive and hard to work with the plaster walls. But it makes me uneasy and I know it’s recommended to eventually replace it. He said best case is maybe being able to fish up newer wiring to the lower receptacles but that the light switches and receptacles on the second floor probably can’t be replaced easily. Anyone had good luck with this? Or anyone just leave old knob and tube?
