To "solve" the problem of evil, theists appeal to the idea that God always has good reasons for evil and suffering. Apparently, we just do not know what those reasons are. Nor does God reveal the good reason to us at the time, after the fact, etc. We're just supposed to accept that God has perfectly good reasons, in every single case.
Otherwise, it's hard to reconcile a perfectly good God with evil in the world.
(Why doesn't God reveal them to us? It's not like God is too busy, as he is infinite. It's' not that God's supernatural zoom account has too few users and hours to communicate with us every 2,000 years, etc. Nor is it because we cannot comprehend it, as we'll see shortly. But let's ignore this for now for the purpose of argument.)
So, it would seem the book of Job has given us a rare view into one of these good reasons theists keep appealing to. Right?
Apparently, one of those times, God and Satan were sitting around "chewing the fat" and Satan essentially said, "You know, Job only loves you because of what he has. If you took that away from him, he wouldn't love you." In response, God gave Job over to Satan to resolve his claim, with one exception: the only thing that wasn't on the table was physically harming Job. His wife, children, etc. were fair game.
So, if we try to reconcile the book of Job and the "solution" to the problem of evil, the Bible pulls back the curtain on something we wouldn't have known otherwise. It should reflect a good reason for Job's suffering. Right?
On one hand, God doesn't tell Job Satan's assessment leads to all of his suffering. But it's not because it's beyond our comprehension. After all God supposedly reveals this to us through the book of Job. So, the entire "we cannot comprehend why" doesn't hold water. Apparently, God doesn't explain it to Job, even after the fact because, well, he just doesn't. (See the aside above.)
On the other hand, But this leads to a few questions.
Why does God care about what Satan thinks about Job? It's not even clear if God disagrees with Satan's assessment. And apparently, God himself doesn't know. Otherwise, why turn Job over to see what happens?
Why would God think Satan has any better insight into Job? After all, God is all knowing being who created Satan and Job. Satan is a fallen angel that decided to rebel against said all knowing and all powerful being. This doesn't exactly depict Satan as the brightest bulb in the box, so to speak.
Furthermore, If God doesn't know what Job will do, he wouldn't know what anyone else would do either. Nothing about testing Job in this case could be applicable to anyone else.
If finding out how Job will respond is one of those good reasons God allow suffering, why wouldn't resolving that question about other people be a good reason for God to allow as well? Satan just needs to claim "person x only loves you as much as he does because of what he has. If that was taken away, he wouldn't love you as much." or something to that effect. Apparently, God would hand them over as well?
Wash, rinse, repeat. Apparently, Satan hit the jackpot, but didn't realize it?
IOW, we're supposed to think God always has a good reason to allow evil suffering, etc. But when the Bible ends up revealing one to us, we wouldn't know about otherwise, it's to settle what is essentially a bet between an omnipotent being and a fallen angel.
It's unclear how this is actually a good reason.

2024.11.26 16:20 phenomenalmoisture Getting a used GPU off Ebay. What's the best way to test it to make sure it's working properly?
I'm not sure if there's an app for performance tests or stress tests that I can use to make sure the GPU is doing what it should. It's a 3070ti and this is the first time I've bought something like this off of ebay, so Im a bit nervous and want it to work out.

Hey guys, so I just got new cx30 2 weeks ago, so every time I get in the car I need to
- Turn off i-Stop system
- Turn off sound on those notifications, where it says if you go over the speed limit, it will produce the sound every time you are over the speed limit, and thats like 90% of the time I drive
- I need to go into settings and find lane assist or whatever its called, that option where the car will try to stay in the lane if you try to go to the other track without using blinkers, I don't use them often, so it's annoying when I switch the lanes
First 2 are fine, because on the left side there are buttons that you just push and it turns it off, but the third one is complicated, each time you need to navigate to settings and find lane assist and turn it off, I dont understand why it doesnt stay off, once I turned it off, it's like that on my other car that's not mazda, once you choose the options that you want to turn off, it will stay turned off forever, until you turn it back on manually, it doesnt matter if you turn the car off and start it again, it will be off again no matter what

Sad procitah post pa da pitam. Sestra i ja smo nasledile po 1/2 stana nakon smrti majke (otac je pre umro pa smo se odrekle u korist majke). Obe smo upisane u katastar na toj nepokretnosti. Sestra je oduvek prijavljena na toj adresi, ja sam bila u detinjstvu, od kad sam se udala (dvadesetak godina) prijavljena sam na adresi u drugom gradu. Setra cas zivi ovde, cas u inostranstvu (povremeni poslovi), ali je uvek prijavljena na istoj adresi. Da li ona, nakon nekog vremena, moze dobiti i moju 1/2 stana obzirom da je stalno prijavljena na toj adresi, a ja ne? U slucaju da ona nadje nekog i taj neko dodje da zivi u tom stanu, da li je potrebna i moja saglasnost za njegovu prijavu?

New member to the sub here, and there’s one funny pattern that I’ve picked up on and it’s bothering me. I follow baseball moderately, mainly the postseason, but not enough to really follow the evolution of the game and things like that. If you watch the last out of every world series since maybe the 80s or so, every last out either grounded out, popped out, or walked off.
In 2006 the last out struck out for the first time in a really long while(Adam Wainwright got the final out). But it seems after that one year, it’s become much more frequent.
Is this just a coincidence, or does it have to do with the style of the game and strategy?
