2024.11.26 19:11 Economy_Apple353 Notice of Intended Prosecution for closing passing a cyclist (UK)
My partner has received a valid NIP today for driving too close to a cyclist when overtaking. The cyclist had a camera on the back of the bike facing cars behind it. The camera has captured partner's car circa 1-2 feet away from the bike a few seconds before passing it.
I have a few questions:
- Once the driver has been identified is it likely they will receive a fine and up to 6 points?
- How likely is no points and a driving awareness course?
- If the only option is points, is it worth the risk to fight this? From what I can read online the recommended distance is 1.5M and the car was clearly less than this at the point the photo was taken prior to the overtake. We have not been provided with photo evidence of the car at the point of overtaking (just seconds before). The car had started to cross the middle of the road at the point of the photo however it is unknown if partner continued to move further over by the time they got to the bike or carried on as is. I assume the video was shared with the police. It is a 20mph road and the start of a hill in a slow 1 litre engine, neither would have been going too quickly.

My trading journey has been a rocky road so far to say the least. It can be summarized by going from $50k to over $300k to a net worth below $0. After a few years of recovering I came back this year and made it back to $100k and have now put it all in one small cap stock: Beamr Imaging (BMR). This company has a cloud offering that provides video/image compression. This is a picks and shovels play on AI as storage costs for large data sets can be extraordinarily high and tools like Beamr can reduce those costs substantially. They already have large streaming providers such as Netflix and Paramount using them.
I feel insane for doing this but I will break down my thesis:
- The gap up earlier this year has been filled (in ER trading)
- An early investor (Marker II LP) has been selling since February and reported that they now have 0 shares so the short term sell side pressure has been relieved
- AI stocks have been heating up again (AI, SOUN, SMCI, PLTR, etc...)
- Q4 is a strong quarter for advertisers and media in general due to the holidays and there's a good chance Beamr will benefit as well
- There may be opportunities to expand their partnerships with Netflix to alleviate live streaming woes.
- Beamr Cloud now offers AI enabled transcribing which could be picked up by some of its streaming partners
- Beamr executives have spent the year going to every tech conference they could to sell their new cloud offerings

Game Title WIP: Matchmaking for Ghosts (clearly inspired off Speed-Dating for Ghosts but with a couple big twists and a very different art style)
The Game Idea: You are Death's appointed matchmaker, tasked with helping restless ghosts find companionship in the afterlife. Each ghost embodies a specific color (e.g., red, blue, green) symbolizing distinct personality traits or themes, such as passion, calmness, growth, etc. Your ultimate goal is to pair these spirits in a way that fosters connections—whether harmonious or hilariously dysfunctional.
The game begins with an introduction phase where players learn about each ghost's personality, backstory, and desires through dialogue or short vignettes. Each ghost is rich in quirks and complexity, or at least that's the goal. You have stoic student council president types that may have a lot of regrets before they kicked the bucket, mixed in with a psycho sadistic soul-harvester who has been haunting a creepy mansion for years upon years.
Mechanics:
- Round 1 – Introductions:
- Choose one ghost to follow as your constant across all dates.
- Pair them with 3 other ghosts based on intuition, exploring various dynamics.
- Each date begins with an introductory conversation, revealing personalities and themes.
- Choices in this round don’t affect the overall outcome but set the tone for Round 2.
- Example: Red Ghost is paired with Orange, Purple, and Green. The order of dates influences the dialogue flow.
- Round 2 – Deeper Dive:
- Example Dialogue:
- Yellow Ghost: "People expect so much of me because of my privilege."
- Red Ghost: "Cry me a river. Try struggling for once."
- The paired ghosts engage in deeper conversations, uncovering compatibility or conflict.
- Player choices now affect the outcome, allowing for meaningful or antagonistic paths.
- Players can provide matchmaker feedback to nudge dialogue, steering toward reconciliation, honesty, or escalation.
- Feedback options: "Encourage empathy" or "Double down on confrontation."
Tone: A mix of humor, snark, and heartfelt moments, creating a balance between lighthearted fun and meaningful storytelling.
Evolving Dynamics: Matches don’t need to be traditionally “successful.” Players are rewarded for exploring unexpected dynamics and creativity. A match may evolve into friendship, rivalry, or a surprising bond
Conclusion and Reflection: At the end of the matchmaking rounds, players see the outcomes and ghost dynamics. Did they create eternal lovers, unlikely allies, or comedic mismatches? Each pairing contributes to the tapestry of Death’s afterlife world.

2024.11.26 19:11 DudeBro1988 NJ, did NOT swerve and did not intentionally refuse breathalyzer. Chances?
I got a DUI charge in NJ because I thought I had sobered up. I actually knew a cop was following me and got nervous.
When I was pulled over, the cop did not give me a reason. He suspected me of being drunk immediately at my first response.
The ticket later lists unsafe lane change, but I did not change lanes nor swerve. The discovery video shows my tires touching the left lane lines but it doesn’t even go over it or cross it. I do this sober all the time, I can’t see what about it is “swervey” myself.
IS THIS PROBABLE CAUSE?
He also wrote me up for not presenting insurance even when I told him I have the card on my phone (my insurance was just updating from old to new that month).
I failed the FST out of leg day soreness + anxiety, though I was aware I walked 9 steps instead of the officer’s 12. They searched my car.
This is the part where I’m a moron who really screwed myself. I had a zipped up closed backpack that is this “cocktail kit” of items I had to make my friends and I drinks from where I was coming from. It was in the passenger seat closed but sitting there.
They arrest me and video record. They asked me how much I had before the search, to which I said I did not drink. After the search, they asked again and I remained silent. I did not admit to drinking once.
At the jail cell, they’re reading me the verbal language on what happens if I refuse. I thought they may be trying to hustle me, so I asked some questions. They start walking away but I say “I consent by the way then!” when they are still in the cell. They ignore me and I do not even know they put me for refusal. I explicitly remember saying this and there’s a camera in the jail cell!
I only find out when I’m released and picked up by a relative. I did not intend to refuse. I did not swerve on video. No one was hurt, no vehicular damage.
I got an expensive 5 star yelp Google lawyer and I’m in the midst of the case. I wonder what people who experienced this expect to happen to me.

I have been in my job for nearly a year. It is a more technical field that I work in so BSing your way through this is not exactly an easy feat. Over this time, there have been several major moments where it seems like my manager is completely lost in the weeds. These moments are amplified by the fact that our manager incessantly boasts about their credentials every chance they get. They are experts in data engineering, but struggle with writing anything other than a basic SQL query. They are experts in data viz, but have only produced very basic or difficult to understand dashboards. Around every corner, in nearly every meeting, if there is a tool or program or concept that is brought up the discussion, our manager brags about having worked with these things at some point in their career.
My colleague and I suspect that most of our manager's knowledge may derive from whatever they are able to scrounge up from articles on the internet about the field. Because when push comes to shove, they can never seem to deliver what is needed in a time crunch. Furthermore, our manager is constantly over promising and under delivering because they don't fully understand the requirements of the work that is being tasked to us. This makes our team look bad. Our manager has been propped up by competent, albeit fortunate, hires who actually do know their stuff. Furthermore, our manager is propped up considerably by the numerous consultants that our organization keeps on retainer. But in a vacuum, we don't believe they know nearly as much as they claim to know. And this has made our jobs cumbersome and frustrating.
