Long story short, when I was last in college I was in a really bad relationship that tanked my GPA due to him interfering with my computer and notes. I went from a 3 to a 2.1 in my GPA. I’m finally safe and free and I want to go back to college. I applied for FASFA but I’m scared that my low GPA will stop me from getting help. I’m going to a community college and the lowest I can have is a 2. Since I’m so close will that affect FASFA?

2024.11.26 23:22 ihavenopersonalityha [s2 act 3 spoilers] Arcane S2’s main problem isn’t pacing; or, Arcane falls into the Marvel trap.
I absolutely adore the show, but I do think S1 is much, much more effective in its storytelling than S2. This seems to be a very widely-shared opinion, but what I’ve been seeing on this sub and on reviews is about how too much is crammed into nine episodes and the problem would be solved with more episode counts.
I really couldn’t disagree more. I think what a lot of people miss is more build up and relationship-building between Jinx/Vi/Cait/Ekko, or feel that the Black Rose and Machine Herald storylines are poorly executed and take up too much time. But the problem is not the screen time; better developing Victor’s growth into the machine herald, or the black rose as it connects to ambessa/mel, does not make this a better story. The underdevelopment of Vi/Jinx/Cait/Ekko isn’t because of their screen time, but bc of how much of the conflict is not centered around them, and drifted away from the really amazing set up we’ve had for an entire season of the PiltoveZaun conflict.
I kinda see this as the Marvel trap, in which in an attempt to make a story biggemore surprising/cooler, they think the way to go is to go from fighting in small scale to fighting countries/planets/galaxies/eventually timelines, but I think we all know that fighting intergalactic villains does not make a marvel movie better; similarly, being up against a mysterious organization or Machine-jesus doesn’t make Arcane automatically good. In fact, it distracts from what had been the central pillar of the story by externalizing the conflict away from PiltoveZaun, uniting them against bigger common enemies.
I cannot overstate how much this takes away from the story. In S1 we very clearly see how everyone is trying to make good decisions for what they perceive to be a better end, only to end up making everything worse. We see attempts at peace/reconciliation, only for that hope to be destroyed every time and descends into tragedy. Having a much more large scale conflict that threatens the survival of both cities to unite them brushes off all the build up about the cycle of violence and the horrendous nature of the conflicts.
Even outside of storytelling necessities, I just find the machine herald/black rose storylines to be the least interesting thing on screen. As someone who is unfamiliar with LOL lore, I understand the need to set up the Noxian-Black rose conflict or to illustrate Victor’s backstory, but these storylines take so much time to be poorly developed and inadequately explained. Importantly, they take these characters away from dynamics and relationship that are the most interesting; Mel, for example, was at her most interesting and effective when balancing her ambitions/urge to do good/relationship with her motherelationship with Jayce, which we see none of this season. Similarly, Jayce and Viktor are so much more interesting to watch when we see how dreams of innovation are employed in war, and how one can easily be corrupted by power, and not the mess of a storyline they have this season.
Why does the most ineffective, most poorly developed part of the story impact the ending and storyline the most? It ruins the emotional pay off of the story. After coming to care for characters in Piltover and Zaun, having them unite together under a common cause is a plot device that cheapens the well-written long standing conflict between the two cities. Good storytelling is seeing the characters we care about tangibly impact the storyline; but in S2, actions by these characters rarely even have consequences. Vi and Cait broke up horrendously? Well now they have to ally again because ambessa bad. Jinx shot Cait’s mom? Sure, Cait becomes a dictator (who we see do absolutely nothing, btw), but then all is (mostly) forgiven because Ambessa is much worse. Does Sevika not like topsiders? Does the council think everyone in the undercity is violent? Don’t worry, Jayce will just give a lil speech about how the Machine Herald’s zombies are much scarier!
It just hurts so, so much to see these amazing character building, great animation, even great visual storytelling (like the concert pianist that joins the war), be so negatively impacted by an attempt to tell a story too large of a scale that distracts from the emotional core of the story. Is the pacing bad? Could there be more episodes? Yes, but that’s not the central problem. I still love the show, but damn, all that it could’ve been.

Hey fellow box nerds.
So long story, but I recently came into possession of a big box copy of the Apogee/Wildfire game Balls of Steel from the early Windows era. This has been a white whale for me and it's one of the jewels of my collection as I'm a massive fan of pinball and this game in particular.
It's not sealed, but is in good shape overall. However, the circular stickers that seal both ends of the box have long been removed and they've left behind dried glue that's yellow/brown, crusty and overall, just looks awful. Here's what I mean:

If this wasn't on a cardboard box, I'd probably just use something like Goo Gone, but I'm very concerned about damaging the printing/box material underneath.
Does anyone have a good suggestion on removing stuff like this from a box? Maybe Goo Gone is the answer, or maybe there's a better one.

I’m female on my late 30s. My parents got divorced 20 years ago and my father got remarried not long after the divorce. He told me about it once he was already married. Well I didn’t really have a good relationship with my dad at the time so I kinda shrugged it off as whatever . I was too busy going to school and had my own group of friends . Well some time after he told me , I went to my moms and she was mad . She found out dad got remarried and accused me of not telling her . I wasn’t aware it was my job to tell her even if I knew but I didn’t know anything until my father told me when he did . We didn’t have cell phones back then , I was busy with school and figured I’d see her when I see her .
She kicked me out of the apartment we lived in and I had to go live with my cousin and my aunt . I did all this while continuing to go to school. I’m pretty sure I graduated college as an escape from my parents.
